When I came in I did not think much of what would be here but when I walked in the owner Joel and this other very nice woman both showed great engagement with me, they had a great selection of good priced electric and acoustic on top of different ukeleles and very cool old old instruments everywhere. The owner had many cool collectibles from Alice cooper, Van Halen and Mettalica. Unfortunately I did not have enough money to get a guitar that day but when I have money I will most definitely go there to get one. Out of curiosity I took a look to see if my negative review was still up, and it was. Joel was so rude to me 10 years ago, that I just wanted to take the time to say even now, 10 years later, I'm still letting every musician I know how I was treated in his store... over the years I've given a lot of lessons, been in a few bands, and even played in some church groups, and warned every musician I ran across to stay away. read more

I decided to take guitar lessons from a young man at this shop. I was told when signing up that it would be a pay per lesson arrangement. There was no contract to sign with any policies pertaining to cancellation of lessons, so I was disappointed to learn that they wanted to charge me for cancelling on a lesson. Be careful when taking lessons here and make sure to ask about the policies pertaining to lessons as they will not tell you everything. read more

My 12yr old son loves to sing, so when I found that they had voice lessons at Rocktown Music, I signed him up. I wasn't sure how well it will go, because he has autism, and learning new things can be very challenging for him. I am very impressed with the quality of instruction! Joel has been so patient and great at explaining things! It's working too! He has taught my son how to swell his voice, sing vibrato, and is teaching him all sorts of tricks to help him hit notes that are hard to hit. I'm blown away, the music instruction at Rocktown Music is absolutely exceptional! I took music lessons for 10 years as a child and none of my teachers were anywhere close to as good as Joel is! Oh, and on top of all that, my son absolutely loves going to voice lessons! If you're looking for some music instruction, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better teacher anywhere else in town! read more

I was tossed up between two guitars and had a hard time choosing. I had spent a couple months moving between three stores - then whittled down to two stores; one guitar each store. I noticed a difference in the Guild at Rocktown Music. I noticed it right away but I was "brand stuck" in my mind with the other guitar. I had a nice long conversation with the staff at Rocktown music and they explained to me the hows and whys of what I was hearing and compared that to the other brand I was stuck on sold elsewhere. The staff were extremely knowledgeable luthiers... yes: LUTHIERS. With my mind set at ease with what my ears were hearing (that I liked the Guild better - and now I know why) and the fact that if I ever have any issues I have someone I can trust with my guitar - I bought the guitar. Very happy! I have been playing it all night and as I get to know the sounds and what the guitar likes (it seems equally happy finger picking as when I'm hitting it) I am really, really happy I went to Rocktown Music. Oh, ya, another thing. I went into the store once, then a bit more than a month later I came back into the store and the "kid" recognized me and remembered what I was looking at... impressive. I had a weird experience here where the sales person kept talking about how all the brands they don't carry at the store are junk yet the brands they do carry are the best. I hate when a store or salesperson has to talk badly about what they don't carry just to potentially make a sale. Plus the sales person wouldn't leave me alone to just look around. Annoying. My guitar tutor joe is dope af. I had guitar lessons there and it really helped me. It's not a super huge store but it feels very homily.

I have had guitars set up here, one guitar completely rewired, and purchased a guitar from this shop. I have found the staff to be knowledgeable, courteous and every time I had been there they had not pressured me once. Their work has been top notch, the only negative feed back I can think of would be at times they seem to be understaffed, but c=good help is hard to find, and it is even harder to find another store that has made me feel at home the way these guys do. I don't usually go to a music store where they talk to me objectively about brands. I've had more informed conversations with the owner than I can count. I've bought a few high dollar items from them, and nothing has ever gone wrong. I'm really glad that this store is in town. The owner won't stock gear that he wouldn't play himself. There are lots of Peavey, ESP, and Ibanez items, and a few nuggets for the Fender Gibson crowd too. You'll have a good time and probably learn something if you hang around Rocktown long enough. read more

We were in search for a guitar for my son, having no experience with guitars at all and checking 4 plus stores before Rocktown Music, We couldn't of hit a better place for help! Joe and Amanda were so helpful and polite! Had an issue with them quoting a price on a cable that they said they could build short notice. I gave them a number to call if there was a problem and never heard anything. Sent someone else to pick it up and they nearly doubled the cost of the cable. When I found out I was so mad that I opted to not use it and return it. They initially refused to take it back, then told me to leave the store. MY big mistake was telling them , "what are you gonna call the cops if I don't go", He (the owner) did, while he was calling the (x) wife was asking me if I wanted a store credit. I never raised my voice or cussed. On a side note... this is a horrible store that rips off beginner musicians. read more
