It was so busy since the Cars and Coffee event just ended. But after checking in with the hostess, it was just a short wait for a table to be cleared. The server took our drink and food order right away. For lunch, I ordered a Reuben on sourdough with fries. The corned beef was pretty lean and I really liked the fries. I think this is my new favorite breakfast spot! They have the best breakfast, which is typically what I make for myself, but it tastes even better when you don't have to cook it yourself! So what I have is called Egg White Scram and it is delicious!! I have been getting it with the Cajun potatoes, which are also delicious! So far, I have only been to this restaurant for breakfast, but I'm very interested to go for happy hour. It seems this restaurant has a little bit of everything has indoor and outdoor seating some bar seating TVs for you to watch the game at the bar, a bakery, a full bar and of course yummy food! I personally have never had to wait for a table but again I've only been for breakfast so I'm not sure how happy hour or dinner is, but getting a seat has been easy so far. Service is quick. We came here today to show my boyfriend's sisters South OC Cars and Coffee. My favorite part of the car show is that we get to eat here afterwards! Our server today was Lovely Lola! Friendly service, but definitely not fast when we went. I enjoyed the loaded tots and Rockwells chicken sandwich (I got light spicy and it wasn't too hot). Sandwich came with choice of side. The service was great, she was very friendly and was very attentive! The service was fast as well! The food was amazing!!! I usually am very picky on eating meatloaf anywhere except at home! My husband got this meatloaf and i ended up eating it with him  " hahaha " their meatloaf were really seasoned perfectly and their gravy was delicious!!! We ordered The Ahi Stack because we saw it when they were bringing it to the table next to us and we weren't let down! It was so good as well! My daughter's sandwich was Amazing she barely finish it because it was so loaded and the chicken were cooked so perfectly and juicy! My burger was also cooked perfectly definitely medium rare! We were so stuffed but still couldn't go without trying one of their cinnamon rolls (not pictured) from their bakery which we also have seen it to the table next to us! Slow service and bad customer service experience. We had a party of 6 adults and 2 toddlers so we expected a delay in order but with 90% of the restaurant being empty we figured service would be a bit quicker but to our disappointment it was twice as long. Our kids food came out quickly ( butter noodles and two orders of chicken tenders with fries) but the main entrees took forever. One pancakes combo with eggs/sausage, one eggs breakfast platter, chicken salad, one turkey blt sandwich, prime rib sliders, and one French dip sandwich took 2 hours for everything to come out. Throughout the wait the old Caucasian server gave no updates on our food and poor service as we continued to wait. Wondered around the restaurant to the bar, to the back of house, and everywhere else but never once to our table until we asked for updates. No explanation why the food was taking long, no follow up with chef/back of house on the food, no acknowledgement or apologies why things were taking long, and sarcastic comments/jokes about us sitting and waiting. Don't get me wrong, I love a good joke and sarcasm to lighten the mood but paired with poor customer service and arrogance like she did nothing wrong the entire time made everything a lot worse. Now i understand weekend rush and a few decent size parties can create some chaos or lack of attentiveness but we arrived after peak lunch rush. The best part was that the last entree to arrive was the French dip that was also forgotten about and when our server was reminded she sighed as if it was an inconvenience for us to ask. When she brought it out it was undercooked! After showing her it wasn't made well she only then acknowledged a mistake was made but still no apology or customer service recovery attempt. Finally wrapping up our extremely late lunch, she gave us our bill and no discount, acknowledgement of poor service, poor experience, or opportunity to make things right was even attempted. I feel bad sharing this as the other employees (host, bussers, chefs, etc.) all get looped into this bad experience but to save someone else the time and effort to dine elsewhere so be it. read more

Mediocre food, at best and the worst customer service. My family and I visited Rockwell's for lunch around 11am on a Saturday. As a party of 9, we were pleased to find out we didn't have to wait long to be seated. From the kids menu I ordered the 2 piece chicken tenders with a side of broccoli for my daughter. Once I stated my order, our server replied with a slight grimace and "I'm pretty sure we're out of broccoli, what else do you want". My sister ordered the kids spaghetti for her daughter. She asked if it came with any sides to which our server replied, "no". I chimed in and said, "I think the menu says it comes with a side of garlic bread". This comment was received by yet another grimaced look from our server. It did come with a side of bread. The food arrived, the spaghetti was cooked well and my niece loved it. The chicken tenders on the other hand seemed to be 90% breading and extremely hard to the bite. The little meat that was in the tender itself was dry and tasteless. I ordered the Kale Chicken Caesar Salad. This salad was decent tasting and a very large portion, but there were only 4 skinny grilled chicken strips on top. Our food came to the table and our server did not check in on us once. I saw her chatting it up with other diners, drying off wine glasses behind the bar, etc. My husband ordered the prime rib sandwich at the same time the rest of us ordered and his meal didn't come out until we inquired about it. When it finally arrived the meat was completely raw in the middle. At this point we had been sitting at the table for at least 1.5 hours. We sent the sandwich back and my husband and I shared my chicken-less salad. No apologies from our server and no explanation. To this entire situation our servers responses were, "are you sure you don't want anything else? Do you want a cookie? At least the salad is healthier for you". I have 5+ years experience in the restaurant industry. I always go into a dining experience with the notion to give these hardworking people a little grace because I understand the work. However, this servers table side manner is the worst I've experienced. Coupled with the mediocre food? 1 star. read more

On maps when I GPS'd it, the hours said open at 8am. My son and I get there at 8:15 and the lady says they open at 9am. I proceed to get in my car and said "oh, online it said 8." She then proceeds to be rude and starts jabbering something (I couldn't tell what she said) I just knew it was rude. We get in the car and head down to Rubys Diner cause they were open at 8am. Location: located at the southern most end of San Clemente Outlets, off Vista Hermosa, where parking is plenty and the patio vibes are awesome. If its cold, they have outdoor heaters to allow you to warm up while you eat and enjoy the views. Service: the first time I went I asked if there was any discount if one was a member of their rewards program through SC outlets. I was told no. I didn't want to argue since something didn't seem right with that information and I couldn't pull it up on my phone to prove otherwise. I went to the VIP lounge/Customer Service reception asked for a print out and sure enough there was. 15% not including alcohol and other promotions. So, I went back the second time, asked to speak to the manager Receipt in hand and had a discussion. Im not complaining just stating facts. He agreed that its a training issue that should be addressed throughout and said he wouldn't be able to refund the $5.08 cents I was owed until he could speak to Chandler the owners daughter, which I would appreciate back. He did offer to replace the meal, which I appreciated but said I would be happy to pay for. Im not looking for a handout, just to make sure fair business practices are done and not have patrons be denied what is printed on the catalogue. Im still waiting for the call back. Jamie, offered a meal and I accepted. Which was appreciated Food:was subpar and lacked taste. The fries were cold, and the sandwich subpar. After all this, im going to skip it moving forward. This was my first time coming here. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the decor they have. Everyone was extremely friendly however it did take us closer to 45 minutes to receive our food. Regardless when it got here the food was delicious! The chilaquiles had a lot of egg and I asked for the black beans on the side. It had a good portion of salsa and they provided all the different brand bottled sauces too. The chilaquiles were GOOD! The salsa is everything. I appreciate that they added some avocado. I usually have to order it as an add on. I will definitely be coming back to try other stuff! read more

Visually stunning pastries which are a hit or miss on flavor. I was really impressed by the pastries and cake when they were unveiled at a co-worker's retirement party. Definitely the wow factor on the black & white marble cake and all the pastries looked delicious. Cake was oily, not sweet, and flavorless. So bummed for the high expectations based on visual appeal. Lemon bar had very little pucker to it and was dense all the way through that I took a second side look to make sure I snagged the right dessert. Raspberry bar had great texture with the oats and jam but also had no flavor. Do I have Covid?! Pumpkin cheesecake to the rescue! Phenomenally dense and pumpkin-y with a thick graham cracker base. This is the 4th time I've been here since this restaurant opened at San Clemente. I'm finally ready to provide a review. Food: it used to be good prior to the pandemic, but now I think the quality has gone down some. We ordered the ahi salad and an omelette. The ahi was not good; It did not taste fresh. It was really one of the not-so-yummy salads I've had in a long time. The other dish we ordered was an omelette. The eggs were over-cooked and the meats were on the dry side. The cheese was non-existent. After our meal, we were going to pick up some bake goods until a bug was spotted sitting on top of the bakery item we were going to purchase. No bueno! Overall, the food quality was not as good as it use to be years ago, sadly. Service: it's a mixed bag. It used to be terrific but the last 2 times we were there were... meh. I think if you sit indoors, you may have better service because the staff can see you better (at least based on my past experience). Ambience: surprisingly, it was not lively as it use to be. There was a sports game on TV in the bar area, but it was not busy as I thought it would be. It can get noisy indoors as the floors are concrete and the sounds will bounce off the floors and high ceilings. Outdoor seating is plentiful and can be nice on a warm day. The only negative about the outdoor dining experience is that the floors are not swept often. Under various tables, there were packets of sugar, plastic containers of jam, food items, straws, etc all over the floor. Perhaps it was just my observation during the hour I was dining there? I drove 30-minutes to this restaurant hoping that it was as good as is use to be, since the pandemic is behind us. I came here with my family for lunch today which we now regret. The first red flag was that the server (older Caucasian lady) did not even know what was on the kids menu. We ordered chicken tenders for my daughter and there was an option for either a side of broccoli or french fries and we asked for broccoli. The server said they don't have broccoli even though it was clearly stated on the kids menu. We then ordered our food which took almost an hour to come out. My order which was the prime rib sandwich never came out. The server came to the table to check in on us and I told her I never received my order. I told her if they hadn't started making it then to not worry about it. She went back to the kitchen and said they were "plating it". Three minutes past and she comes out with this prime rib sandwich that is still clearly raw in the middle...I gave it back to her and told her don't even bother making me another one as I was frustrated that she clearly lied to me about them plating it. Luckily my wife still had some of her salad left so I ate some of that. She then comes back to the table and had the audacity to say, "At least the salad is healthier for you than that prime rib sandwich". A message to the server that helped us: 1) Learn what's on the menu 2) Don't lie to your customers 3) Learn to have better service recovery I would give zero stars if I could... read more

I spent some time here while my wife was doing some outlet shopping. It's located on the far end of the outlets away from all the retailers There is no host/hostess so I was confused as to whether I should seat myself or not so I asked at the front counter. One of the staff behind the bakery display case escorted me to a table inside (they have a patio too). I'm still not certain what the protocol is but it looks like you seat yourself unless you are just there to buy some bakery items. Learning they had no espresso drinks I opted for a regular cup of coffee. They serve breakfast all day so I asked for their eggs benedict plus one of the cinnamon rolls I spied in the display case. The young lad who provided service to me was kind, funny, and attentive. The coffee was simply ordinary diner coffee. The high point of this place was that cinnamon roll which I requested served warm. It was soft and fresh plus had the perfect amount of cinnamon and frosting to make it absolutely wonderful. The eggs benedict was somewhat of a catastrophe. Definitely the worst eggs benny I've ever had; two were presented on the plate along with hash browns. On the positive side, the ham was good and a double slice was on each English muffin. The eggs looked inviting from the outside but this was deceiving. One egg had a runny yolk but the white was underdone and slimy. The other yolk was solid in texture (as in what you'd find in a hard boiled egg). Odd. Not at all what one would expect but still edible. The incredible cinnamon roll saves the day and keeps this review at 3 stars. read more

I've been going to Rockwell's for at least six years now. The service is always outstanding. The food is very consistent and it's a great atmosphere. I particularly like going there on cars and coffee days would a neat experience. That said I've noticed over the years that the place is starting to become a little worn around the edges. I hope that the owners will keep providing a good experience for the customers by fixing some of the broken booths and pastry cases etc. it's becoming dated. I've talked to several of the servers and it seems like they don't get a lot of help from the owners when it comes to maintaining the restaurant and trying to make it better for the customers. Oh, and can we get whipped butter instead of those small foiled butter pats? read more
