My folks used to live just a few miles from this restaurant. The folks have since passed away, but I still dream of the food we ate here. I still have family in Jackson, MS, and I'm hoping for another visit to Catfish Cottage. This place has the best deep fried catfish I've ever had--cooked to perfection. Catfish restaurants are a staple in the south. There a ton of these kind of places and the good ones will have lines out the door. This is a good one, my family has been going there for years whenever we go back to visit family. Your meal starts off with cole slaw, hush puppies and little containers of cheese sauce. The hush puppies are pretty plain just deep fried dough. Many other places will have some peppers or other bits in them, so that is the only disappointing thing. You have the option for all you can eat Catfish. I tend to get the seafood platter. It comes with fried oysters, clams, shrimp and catfish with a crabcake with some fries. The fries are a battered style fries so they have some extra crunch to them. If you don't do seafood fear not, they have chicken tenders and a hamburger steak or a burger. They also have a grilled fish option. Overall a very tasty place to eat. Crowds and wait can get quite long. We've typically gone at 5pm and still have had to wait. read more

It seems that every catfish place we find just does not compare with RCC! We always get the AYCE fish, both filets and whole, and they are great! The slaw is to die for as well as the little hush puppies. Excellent fries, but never get to many of them since we pig out on fish! Tea is excellent and always kept refilled. Love the service and the place is very clean and folks are friendly. There are also other menu items, but we always fall for the fish. Friends have tried other items and they always like them. I have suffered through my fair share of overrated culinary institutions before, but the astonishingly high aggregate rating for this particular restaurant takes the concept to criminal levels. For the life of me, I cannot understand why so many people, time and time again, make the pilgrimage to seek out the Rocky Creek Catfish Cottage when there are so many better seafood buffet restaurants within the 50 mile radius. It's bad enough that the food itself is average to mediocre, but my main issue with this place is how the food is prepared. I don't know how regularly the kitchen changes out their frying grease on a daily basis, but any food I have eaten there recently makes me sick to my stomach for several hours after consumption. The only item on the menu that I would deem to be edible without consequences is their hamburger, which isn't the greatest in the world, but it's a reliably tasty selection (sans indigestion-triggering fries, of course) if you find yourself the prisoner of a group of people who are singularly focused on making a beeline to Rocky Creek to shovel a mountain of catfish down their gullets. read more

This is the absolute greatest thing that has ever hit this area. I've lived in Seattle for 36 years but I was raised in the Bexley Community. My family and I visited the restaurant last July it was almost 15 of us, they accommodated us and took very good care of us while we dined. Not having a lot of this type of restaurant in Canada, I was not sure what to expect. Very good. I had the all you can eat catfish fillets. They come with hush puppies, coleslaw, and fries. We were a large group and nearly everyone had the fillets served family style it was good. The atmosphere is fun and we had a great time. The food just kept coming. The fillets could have used a bit more seasoning for my liking but just add some of the best tarter sauce to the fillet and it becomes absolutely delicious. The Coleslaw is very tasty. I realize this is a catfish place, but I don't like fish so I didn't have it. My wife however loves catfish, which is why we went, but she'll have to do her own review. This review is for people who don't order the catfish. The restaurant is nice enough and the wait staff were attentive and pleasant. That is the end of the good things to say. I ordered a ribeye steak. It came with a very small green salad swimming in dressing and fake bacon bits. Was almost inedible. The steak was a bad, tough, cut of meat. I did like the seasoning. The baked potato came with a tube of sour cream and a individual packet of butter. Not sure why a place that is so busy, obviously does a good business, serves food that way. Feels like I am at a cheap buffet. My "Texas Toast" was a couple slices of white bread barely toasted with a smidgen of butter in the center. My diet coke came in a can, so no free refills. I did taste a hush puppy and thought it was bland and the fake cheese sauce was disgusting. I guess when you are the only restaurant in the area, you don't have to try very hard. Simple changes like getting fountain soft drinks, put salad dressing on the side so customers can choose how much to use, put the butter and sour cream in little plastic cups rather than make me open my own packages would all be basic improvements. None of that helps the poor cut of meat, which is also a easy fix. Bottom line, if you aren't going to eat catfish, there is no compelling reason to eat here. read more

It's gotten a little pricey for my budget (from what it originally cost when I started eating there in 2000), but I like food done right - and this is. Most everyone reflects my opinion...great service, inviting atmosphere, great catfish, hushpuppies/cheese sauce and divine coleslaw! But after reading one negative review about the "other" menu items, I have to disagree. I can't speak to the ribeye steak, but to say nothing else on the menu is good is, in my opinion, just wrong. My experience with the shrimp, and the hamburger steak smothered in onions and gravy and the grilled fish has been consistently good quality and delicious. Also I can order a salad with the dressing on the side, but yes, like other restaurants, I have to ask for it that way. I'm not a fan of the type of bacon bits they use, but all in all we are big fans of our local restarurant and frequent there fairly often. We've had a date night, family nights, birthday parties, an actual graduation ceremmony for a work-force class, and after church gatherings as well as small reunions there. Everything done well. This is only one actual "party" room, but if you go early usually no problem gathering a larger group in one of the two main dining rooms. (Also calling in advance) I always love the decor...country farmhouse...and the decorations are actually CLEAN and not dusty. The service is very good and yes they are very attentive to replenishing whatever is needed. We will be meeting a childhood friend from Louisisana there this evening. This place is out in the middle of no where and only open on the weekends but as soon as this place opens the parking lot is full. Stopped here a few times going back and forth from college. The catfish is as close to home cooked as you can get. It is always fresh and cooked just right. Forget bread with dinner, they serve hush puppies with rotel here and it is great. On 12/5/2015, a few friends and myself decided to try Rocky Creek Seafood Restaurant before going to the Christmas parade in Lucedale Ms. I am an extreme foodie and critic that tells it like it is through blogs and social media. First impression was a Cracker Barrel type restaurant on a less tourism scale, they had a cute little ole-fashion store front selling memories of yesteryear. After a quick roundabout of the store we were seated and quickly greeted by our waitress, she was great, quickly presenting our menu's and proceeded with our drink orders, all of which was good old southern sweet tea and non-sweet tea. Over the years I have judged restaurants by how good the sweet tea is, and this one passed the first test, not too sweet and not too plain, " Just Right". Shortly after she brought us our Tea; she brought two baskets of the most perfect Hushpuppies and cheese sauce I have ever eaten, not overly fried and greasy like they have been sitting under a heat lamp for hours, but a perfect lightly browned sweet tasting round bite of goodness; along with the hushpuppies she brought a big bowl of coleslaw ( family style), now I make a pretty good coleslaw and I must say this was as good as mine; ( Ok maybe better then mine). She proceeded to take our order, Linda ordered the grilled chicken salad, Sandy ordered the fried chicken salad, Tom & Bill ordered the " All you can eat Catfish, I ordered the Seafood platter. The seafood platter consisted of fried shrimp that were fresh, perfectly cooked with a great flavor, Fried oysters that were the best I have had in a long time, a great piece of fried catfish, fried clam strips, stuffed crab and french fries; the meal cost around $16.00 and was WELL worth every penny, it was more then enough to eat, our waitress asked if I need a doggy bag, but being so full I did not get one... I wish I would have now. All in All this was a perfect meal from service to great food. My compliments to the chef, the owner, and the wait staff for allowing me a most satisfying experience. This was one of the worst experiences in my life. My family and I went to have my grandmother a 72nd birthday party. We called ahead and made reservations a week ahead of time. When we got there there had a problem sitting everyone, then it took a whole hour to being the food. There were two other parties that came and left before we even started eating. Went to visit family in Mobile Alabama from Honolulu Hawaii and my dad said we got to go eat catfish at rocky creek......we went jan 2,2015 and got there early after about a 45 min to hour drive. Mobile just doesn't have a really good catfish restaurant anymore. I don't know why...we used to have several really good ones. When you get a craving for really good Southern style catfish, make the 40-45 minute drive to Rocky Creek in the suburb of Lucedale, MS. It's a play on Cracker Barrel style with some shopping upfront and the dining in the back. It's Christmas all year long at Rocky Creek. The menu has a few non fish items, but I only eat the AYCE Catfish fillets; you can get whole fish too, for around $10. Coleslaw, hushpuppies with Rotel Cheese Dip and fries are generously served alongside the perfectly seasoned, perfectly fried catfish fillets. I heard the Hamburger Steak was really good but I haven't ever seen anyone eat anything but the catfish. It's open for lunch and dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The ONLY thing I don't care for is the homemade tartar sauce. It's too thin and too sweet for my taste. The service is great...Friendly and quick on refills of drinks or fish. read more

When my entire family is together it always requires a trip to Rocky Creek Catfish! My favorite catfish place by far!

My wife and I drove over to Lucedale, MS to the Rocky Creek Catfish Cottage on old Hwy 63 north. We got there around 12:30 pm. This was the first time we visited this restaurant. On entering one has to walk thru their gift shop before entering the dining areas. The first was on the left which had about four long tables which I guess serves as a meeting room as it is small but will hold about 35-40 people. The next room is a large dining area which was nearly full. Only one table was available which sits six people and the waitress told us it was okay to sit there. I guess they don't get new comers as the waitress asked if we wanted a menu. The waitress took our order fairly quick since the people there was nearly finish as some had already started to leave. Within six minutes she brought us a large bowl of coleslaw and a half full basket of hush puppies with hot cheese dip. The hush puppies and the cheese dip were hot. Within ten minutes our meals were delivered. I had the seafood platter which consisted of four shrimp about the size of 26-30 count, four large oysters, two more hush puppies, almost a half platter of clam strips, one catfish filet, one crab cake as least that is what I call it, it was suppose to be stuffed crab and a big pile of French fries all for $16.95. My wife had the shrimp platter which consisted of twelve shrimp the same size as mine, two hush puppies, and a pile of French fries for $13.95. We both had sweet tea which my wife enjoyed. All was hot except for my one piece of catfish. They flour batter all which I really don't care for. I like my seafood with corn meal. As usual the top of my month was coated with flour. The catfish tasted a little funny but I thought it was because they cooked it in grease that maybe they cooked the hush puppies and it was a little over cooked. The oysters seem to need a little more cooking. Over all there was plenty to eat. I was thinking the bill was going to run about fifty dollars but all this food was only $33.00 and some change. On the 63 mile trip home I thought this was a good place to eat if I was closer. Around ten at night I got sick and stayed that way until midnight. My wife and I think it was the catfish. Anyhow, I don't think I will make the trip back but I would visit again if I ever get by that way and would like to try it again. It must me a good place as the local law enforcement was there and that usually is a good sign. The fourth room is also a dining area but it was closed off during our visit. I did manage to get a picture of it as the place is really nice décor. There was plenty of crackers and napkins on the table which is a plus. We couldn't eat all the food that was on our plates so we had to take a box home. I think one should at least try this place. I think 12:30 pm on Thursday or Friday would be the best time to go without having to stand in line and wait for an opening. read more

We have eaten at the Rocky Creek Catfish place each year we visit family since it has been in business, and have always been more than pleased. The food is outstanding, servers and owner very friendly, and even though they are always busy, they rapidly clean the tables and get ready for the next group. Yet, if you are visiting with family and friends, they don't come by and rush you off. Highly recommend a detour from your usual route to make this stop, only open Thursday, Friday, and Saturdays. read more
