This cemetery is just a mere bike ride away from the center of Johnson City. It sits on at least…read morefive or more acres and is the home of hundreds of grave markers. It is set back from the main road by several hundred feet on a gently sloping hill. Much of the cemetery is layed out into bordered family plots. There is still plenty of land for future interments which makes it an active and ongoing cemetery. When you pull in, you can park along the gravel road that runs through it. There's quite a few markers from the early part of the 20th century and plenty that are recent making this the de facto cemetery for the townspeople of Johnson City. There is no bathroom here, but I did see a Texas historical sign on the property (see photos). There is no kiosk listing who is who or who is where. Many of the graves are long since forgotten about, but there are many still that are attended to by surviving members.

This cemetery which dates from the late 1800s is located on RR 12 just a mile or two from Highway…read more290. It is bordered by the very busy and noisy RR 12 with single home residences on two sides. It is about 3 to 5 acres in size. This appears to still be an active cemetery as there are very some recent interments on the property. There is a mixture of old and newer markers throughout the property. There is still some of the original ironworks surrounding some of the older graves. There's even some Civil War markers. The cemetery has been well cared for and is well laid out and orderly. There are many bordered sections for family plots found here. There is a Texas historical sign on the property which has the necessary information pictured below. Many of the markers found here are no longer visited by family members, although the ones towards the back of the cemetery are newer and are well tended to. There is very little in the way of parking on the road, but once you enter the main gate, towards the rear of the cemetery, you will find parking and a gazebo. There is still plenty of room for future interments in case you want to make this year forever home.

Two different people have told me there are no braces to support the deck from underneath and eventually it will start to sag and give way. I have reached out to the owner numerous times and have been told he will come by and still no one has shown to address the instability of my deck. I would not recommend this company if you're looking for a stable deck. Unfortunately, a friend referred me and I gave them a chance. Lesson learned.

This cemetery runs along Barons Creek and is hidden from view from Highway 290 just a couple of…read moreblocks away. It was established in 1846 and there are quite literally thousands of interments here. This is a very orderly, well-maintained cemetery which has different sections. The vast majority of graves are surrounded by neat and orderly concrete borders. Three sections of the cemetery are completely covered in concrete, while the other sections have earth and grass separating the interment sites. You'll find one area near the entrance where many graves are surrounded by the original ironworks of the early 20th century. At the back of the cemetery is a section where victims of the Spanish flu were buried enmass at the turn of the century. There is also an African-American section, but there is little in the way of representation of those graves. Also, near the rear of the property is a section reserved for infants and children. After talking with one of the volunteers who care for the grounds, there will eventually be a website and hopefully a chapel coming in the next couple of years. Currently, there is no kiosk or information booth pertaining to who is buried where on the property.
