The architecture is outstanding, and the opportunity to walk on the roof makes the visit even more special. The surrounding area is beautifully landscaped and offers many excellent spots for relaxing and taking photographs. The building feels impressive and monumental while still maintaining an elegant appearance. Even without attending a performance, it is well worth visiting to experience the atmosphere of one of Oslo's most iconic landmarks. Operataket Observation Deck - The free observation deck on the roof of the Opera House is, in my opinion, one of the places that nobody should miss when visiting Oslo. The climb is easy and the reward is a stunning panoramic view of the city, the fjord and the harbour area. I especially liked that the roof is freely accessible and provides plenty of space for walking, relaxing and taking photographs. The combination of the building's modern architecture and the surrounding scenery creates a truly unique experience.

The two lions who overlook it were made by two prisoners who were given jail time but as a rehabilitation measure were both directed to carve one each. One turned his life around and became a famous sculptor, the other fell back into crime and was executed. The courtyard itself is where any and all persons can protest or bring something to Parliament for discussion and later in the day after our tour one was setting up as we walked by. All in all, it's a great stop on a tour and one of the more interesting parts of Oslo, but I'm still curious which lion was made by who.

The large crab apple tree planted in the center of the large lawn was so abundant that there were tons of over ripened ones that had fallen all over and littered the lawn. This caused a bunch of bees buzzing around them on the lawn. There are also a lot of tourists walking the outer grounds of the castle, stopping to pose next to the cannons. The views of the ocean and blue skies are noteworthy. It was worth the long walk from the hotel.

Oslo City Hall wasn't open most of this week due to local elections but we finally got inside on…read moreour last day. City Hall was an imposing building of brick. The long driveway up included covered walkways with mounted wooden carvings depicting scenes from Nordic mythology. Each scene included a bilingual explanation which was helpful to learn the context. Well worth the time to see these. Inside only the first floor was opened for visitors on the day of our visit. It was cavernous with much higher ceilings than I expected. The wall murals were spectacular. A small display on one of the offshoot halls contained some details about the annual Nobel Peace Prize ceremony. Downstairs were the WCs and cafeteria. At least free to entry versus some other Scandinavian city halls!

It's a set of very uninteresting stairs, in a "edgy" looking area, with a rubbish view at the top and the highlight of a couple of very low key wolf type statues at the bottom. This is not something that in anyway should be called a tourist site and if it is classified as that then it should be about 400 on the list of landmarks worth seeing. There is literally loads of statues across Oslo that are way more interesting that the ones at the bottom of these crappy stairs. Scraping the bottoms of the barrel of tourist attractions, one to avoid for sure.

Frogner Park - One of the most beautiful city parks I visited in Oslo. Extensive green areas,…read morewell-maintained paths, and numerous works of art, including the famous bridge lined with sculptures that reminded me of Prague, create a truly unique atmosphere. I really liked that the park offers plenty of space both for relaxation and for outdoor activities. During my walk, I saw families with children, athletes, and tourists, yet the park still felt calm and enjoyable. It is a place where you can easily spend several hours without getting bored. It undoubtedly belongs among the most important attractions in Oslo. There is also a large playground for children. Admission was free, although the toilets required a small fee.

It is a big tourist attraction so in peak season it can be busy but rarely crowded except at a few popular sculptures like the angry boy. For me the sculptures were OK and felt a bit repetive in style though they are certainly all different. We took the tram here since it is a bit out from central Oslo. One of the best deals in Norway!
