When I recently stopped at Rodeo Whip with friends late in the afternoon, we were lucky that the store was empty. This gave us time to chat with the extremely enthusiastic girl behind the counter. When asked for recommendations, she started to reel off her favorites, her eyes opening wide with excitement as she described them. It always makes me happy to see someone so passionate about tasty ice cream. She said her favorite was cappuccino crunch, so I went for it in a small cone. A small cone being two very large scoops, so in reality, not all that small. The ice cream was fresh, had a delicious coffee taste, and had outstanding bits of chocolate chips and brownie within. All in all, utterly tremendous. My friends went for large cones, which are three scoops. They finished them, recommended the mint chocolate chip flavor, and also said they would go with two scoops the next time around. I wish I was local to this shop, because it was outstanding. Oh, German chocolate ice cream. Where have you been all my life? So good, so yummy. It would be easy to bypass this place, but if you are in the area, it's totally worth pulling in. Don't let the exterior fool you. I've gone there for 10-15 years, but only occasionally as their hard ice cream flavors are so decedent, I don't want to overindulged. They have soft serve as well, but I can't get beyond the scrumptious hard ice cream flavors. Go big, or go home. Two scoops in a chocolate dipped, nut covered, waffle cone. The German chocolate is made with a generous amount of walnuts (instead of the more traditional pecans), with chunks of chocolate cake embedded in the ice cream. The second scoop is my wildcard, maybe peanut butter, maybe strawberry, so many options! I always go during off-peak hours and never have to wait, but based on signs and how they route the cars, I believe there could be quite a wait during peak times (still worth it though!) read more

Omy gosh!!! What an experience!! Insane amount of ice cream and that was a small!! Small 2 flavors, 1 mini and 2-1 scoops for only $16 what a steal! Doggy treat for the pup too! Had maple walnut and butter pecan. The ice cream was super rich the way I like it. Nuts were crunchy in each ice cream. Preferred the maple walnut did not find much taste in the butter pecan. Ice cream was great! Service wasn't as great. Waited longer than I should have to be helped when there weren't many people. Workers were chatting more than giving me my ice cream! Interior was small but a cute and cozy setup. Location was in a more industrial zone but if you're in the area check it out. I just wouldn't drive to deland from lake mary again for it. I fondly remember trips to Rodeo Whip every time I visited my grandparents some 15 yrs ago (they lived in Orange City at the time). I now live in the area and it was one of the first things I thought of! My favorite was and still is Garbage Pail! Yes, costs have risen and you can expect to wait in the drive through, but still SOOO worth it! As of my most recent visit in March, the menu and pricing needs updated...as you can only see prices in teeny, tiny print when you pull up to pay. The options are plentiful and the only thing that surpasses that would be the serving size. Huge!!! I couldn't take pictures but in our party we had sundaes and GINORMOUS cones with everything from chocolate ice cream dipped in cherry coating to cotton candy and YES the garbage pail. Wow, wow, wow. Hands down the BEST custom and scratch ice cream I've had in many years!! I had the banana pudding ice cream in a waffle cup, which I regret paying for the waffle cup because the ice cream was so amazing on its own and the flavor so perfect I didn't end up eating them together! My daughter had the salted caramel- also a spot-on perfect flavor and my son had the butter brittle which was downright amazing!! The woman behind the counter was so nice and helpful, not to mention was the one that made the cookies that go into the ice cream and makes the ice cream. And not only that, I waited in the drive thru for 40 minutes. I called my grandpa at 9:13pm to see what he wanted and I got up to the window to order at 9:52pm. My mom raved about this place way before I touch foot in Florida. So we had to check them out. Service was great and all the different flavors to decide so many options. I decided on the Andes mint, my husband had the ChocolAte ameretto which both had liquor they both were so good. Mom had a kiddie soft serve which was huge.Both of the girls had waffle cones one cotton candy and the other Oreo both kiddie size which were massive. TERRIBLE! We've lived in Deland almost 20 years and have patronized rodeo whip off and on for that period of time. We were there tonight and waited in the drive thru line for almost 50 minutes to place an order. Their ice cream is delicious but their customer service is terrible and always has been. They've hired young kids to mind the store (not enough) who are slower than slow who for whatever reason take an eternity to fill an order at the drive thru (which is supposed to take less time that actually going in the store). We've continued to go back to the store from time to time thinking this situation might change over time but it never does. We will never go back. At one time they were "the only game in town" but fortunately as Deland has grown so have the ice cream choices. read more

After reviewing Yelp, the husband and I decided to give Rodeo Whip a try. I am glad that we did, although, the customer service wasn't that good. The server seemed as if we were an intrusion and did not even greet us. Instead, he just stood at the counter, as if to telepathically say, WELL!!! WHAT IS IT!?! Nevertheless, we were pleased to see all of the variety of sweet treats on the menu...every ice cream treat you can imagine, from shakes, to sundaes, soft serve, concretes, etc. We ordered two simple cake cones. The total came to $7.30. But the servings were so huge. I though I would never finish my cone!! I like the unique flavor offerings. The husband had Maple Walnut and I had German Chocolate Cake. The wait time. On this visit, we were inside for at least 30 minutes. We waited almost 10 minutes to order and it took about 10 minutes to get our order (we ordered one large cup, so we didn't have an elaborate order).
