**Rojo, Eureka, CA** Rojo has quietly become the best lunch deal in Humboldt County, and more people need to know about it. They recently dropped their lunch price to $20, and for that you get a full Brazilian barbecue lunch spread that genuinely delivers. The setup is smart. Instead of tableside carving like a full rodizio dinner, lunch is a buffet with five pre-cut, pre-marinated meats kept warm and ready to go: linguica, chicken, steak, pork, and a picanha-style chimichurri steak. My favorite by far was the chicken, and the sides are where this place really earns it. Garlic rice, black beans, a black bean stew, sweet corn chowder, and a beef stroganoff that i truly enjoyed. I built a plate of garlic rice, stroganoff, and chicken and it was genuinely phenomenal. There is also a full cold buffet with prosciutto, cheeses, potato salad, fruit salads, quinoa, garbanzo bean salad, and an entire separate salad bar with multiple dressings and toppings, plus a dessert and fruit bar if that's your thing. I'm a savory guy so I didn't spend much time there, but my wife did and had no complaints. Vegetarians would do fine here, and I'd guess a vegan could put together a solid plate too given how much produce and grain-based food is on offer. The place was spotless, which matters more than people realize. You can see straight into the open kitchen and everything was wiped down and shining. In a county where a good chunk of our restaurants get cited repeatedly for health violations and somehow stay open anyway, walking into a clean kitchen you can actually see into is worth calling out. Service was great too, and I made a point of thanking our waiter specifically for how clean the place was kept. This is not a Michelin experience and it's not trying to be. What it is is a genuinely good, fresh, healthy lunch for a fair price, in a room big enough to host a large party or even a wedding reception with advance notice. Two AYCE meals and two iced teas ran us $48 out the door. In a county where two burritos and 2 jarritos can run you $40, that is worth shouting about. The ambience was pretty nice and a bit brighter than other Brazilian Steakhouses I've been to. The food was pretty good. The Picanha, Ribeye, and Tri-tip were good. Servers were more than willing to come back to me after stopping at other tables so I could get rarer meat, which was great. We went for lunch and were disappointed right away that the meats were not carved tableside. The meat was on a table in pans (uncovered) on a warming plate and it was just warm. The beef was way overcooked and toughand had alot of fat. The chicken was just okay, had it been hot it would have been better. The sausage was dry and barely warm. The pork belly was sitting in a pool of grease and barely warm. The only reason I gave two stars is because our server was excellent. The cold salads were good, some were really good. The soups were also just barely warm. They were tasty but we prefer hot soup. The fresh fruits were good. We didn't try the black bean soup nor the garlic rice. Incredible culinary experience. There are so many different and tasty items I could not possibly consume them all in one sitting. All you can eat and then some. Delicious food offered by attentive servers. The place was packed Saturday night, 8/29/26, and for good reason! I will definitely be frequenting this establishment often! Roasted pineapple for dessert was an amazing experience! The ambiance was inviting, airy and the place is well appointed and an engineering marvel. Cut to order meat table side allowed for no food pile up and yet you could request as much as you wanted. When we were full they brought out sausages which we had not sampled. For Humboldt, this is what we needed. A place with absolute flavor. Honestly the salad bar needs a full revamp but one of the best things I tried tonight was the Feijoada and garlic rice. The meat was hearty. The temps were great! The only thing I wish is that I had more room in my stomach. One thing that the bar needs is Leblon. You cannot have a proper caipirinha without Leblon. We are very happy that a Brazilian steakhouse has come to Humboldt County! Rojo did not disappoint! The meats were cooked very well and the service was good. The salad bar also had a good selection. Please research what Brazilian steakhouse is before coming in because a lot of people who have been commenting about the price or the way to meat is cooked...they have probably never been to a Brazilian steakhouse. There is usually 10 to 15 different cuts of steak all marinated and seasoned differently. Give it a try and enjoy this because it's a very good meal. Pricey, but very good. read more

Our original dinner plans fells through, so my friend and I figured we could try the place out. As soon as we walked in, the very young hostess acted condescending and snobby. She was short with us and asked if we had a reservation. When we answered that we did not, but were happy to sit at the bar, she gave us a withering glance and told us, " You won't really get the full experience at the bar." While none of the words she said were inherently rude, the deliver and sideways, judgmental glances were obvious and incredibly off-putting. I would have been more forgiving if she was just frazzled due to the restaurant being packed, but we could clearly see open tables and the bar was half empty. Her behavior convinced me to never consider this place as an option when thinking of restaurants in Eureka. read more

Go when you are HUNGRY! This is an all you can eat experience, the salad bars are self service with the meats served table side. For the price, it's a good value if you're super hungry! But if you plan to pick or have a salad, wait until next time. They are getting started, and the wait staff needs to get a few more days under them. First the waiter was extremely inexperienced. Didnt explain the process until asked. Water had no ice which was weird Luke warm water. Meat was brought to table few times with two pieces left for 4 people and never came back with more. Got three choice while other tables got double. Pineapple and watermelon ripe. Rest of fruit not. Choice werent great on soups, they were bland. They gave us 2 table of mashed potatoes for 4 people with polenta and hard cheese bread. Not impressed and wont be going back. read more

The salad bar was clean, but nothing out of the ordinary. I've been to this type of restaurant in large cities and Rojo has some work to do. No major changes to the interior, still feels like Shamus. We tried this new Brazilian steak house for the first time. It was on par for most of the previous reviews. The decor is basically the same as the previous restaurant, with the exception of the Tesla machine missing. We had reservations and were greeted and seated promptly. However, it did take a while for our server to come to the table get us started on the routine and drink orders. After that it was pretty smooth: Pros: Salad bar/ Cold bar was good. It reminded me of a wedding buffet style bar, which I was not upset about. The food was good and the plates are enormous! Once we became personable with the servers, they seemed to loosen up and took care of us. The meats were plentiful and rotated consistently. The chicken wrapped bacon, ribeye and linguica sausage were my personal favorite. It was really nice to see the honestly of the server, when he cut the steak and it was too rare, to apologize and take it back to be completed. I would prefer that over forcing the serving of very undercooked meat. Based on other previous comments, I couldn't understand how you were only offered 1 or 2 "overcooked" slices of meat. If you wanted more or a different kind...just ask. They took care of us! At the end of dining experience, we had to call off the servers, because we simply could not eat anymore..lol. Note: We were there on a Tuesday, so there was no extra activities such as music or dancing, which would have been nice, but we understand. Cons: I wish there were none, but I do have a couple that I hope to see adjusted in the future; I understand why, but the price is steep for the full experience. We had six people, which brings me to my next personal issue, the mandatory 18% gratuity! As a customer, I hate this. I am the type of person who will tip well beyond 18% if the service was worth it, but as soon as you force me to pay because we brought more overall customers into your business, it makes me want to pay the bare minimum and complain about it. If we had bad service and you force me to pay for that on top of it, makes me not want to come back. To be fair, most of the food was prepared well, perhaps under seasoned (for what I was thinking of South American food) and a couple cuts of steak were hard and chewy. Overall, my biggest complaint and desperately hope you fix , is in the lower seating area near the rear double doors, there was a large amount of flies flying around. About 10 all grouped together. I understand it's summer and Humboldt, but it was a turn-off and we almost left before we got started. The good news, not too many buzzed the table and we didn't see any near the cold bars. I finally went to Rojo and at the end of this review I will classify this steakhouse as a high-end, low-end, or average steakhouse compared to what you would find in Brazil. We arrived earlier, which I would recommend because going to a Brazilian steakhouse is, at least a one-hour affair. The salad bar is average. It has a good selection of salads, some charcuterie, heart of palm, and feijoada. A high-end steakhouse would have a better selection of cheeses, charcuterie, and even some sushi. It baffled me that they did not have farofa! Now the meats. The selection is good and if you are patient, you can sample all of them at least twice. With that being said, the linguica they serve is actually "Portuguese linguiça" and it is far from traditional Brazilian linguiça. Some of the cuts were overcooked and under seasoned. It is not hard to season meats in a churrasco, you just need to throw some coarse or sea salt there. I agree with previous reviews, it takes a good amount of time for the good cuts to come around. That is why you should get there early and expect to stay at least one hour. I noticed that they do not have a charcoal grill and that makes total difference! You cannot get the same flavor with electric ovens. That is one of the reasons the meats take forever to cook and usually come out dry. In a good churrascaria, the dish under the skewers that the servers carry would be full of juices and not dry as I saw. Another minor thing that gets old really quick is how dull the server's knives are. Can someone sharpen them (hello owner, manager, servers...)? It is like they are trying to cut a two-inch steak with a butter knife. I agree with a previous review saying they should go on work trip to good churrascarias in the Bay Area and see what a real environment, salad bar, kitchen, service, and meats look like. With that being said, if I was in Brazil, Rojo would be a small neighborhood average churrascaria and to be fair, it is priced like that. $55 per person is a very good price for what you get at Rojo. Has a great meal here. The service was friendly and did their best to make sure we were happy and getting to try everything. They don't have the largest selection but everything I had was good. I might of even had better tasting meat here than at other Brazilian steakhouses. I assume they will work to expand things as they just opened. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone. I brought an out of town friend here...she has been to a Brazilian bbq before, so knew what to expect...and this was NOT it! Upon arrival we noticed that many "buffet" items were empty. The shrimp cocktail remained empty for the first 20 minutes of being there, we heard many customers requesting them. When shrimp was refilled, it was in a pool of water. The appetizers were all covered in water...wet and slimy. So unappetizing! I dropped my fork on the floor in front of the waiter and he said "oh, did you want a new one?" Like yes sir...obviously! Meat came out so slowly...and the cuts were awful...tough and fatty! The only good thing we had was the garlic butter shrimp. Also, waiter never brought out our plantain and mashed potatoes which were included with our meal...when asked he said the kitchen was working on it...he then brought us our check. We paid and left. We went a few nights ago. Normally I wouldn't write such a lengthy negative review, but since it was the soft opening perhaps the management can use this data to improve the situation. I've been to several Brazilian Steakhouses and this place is running shoddy and halfassed effort by comparison. I was hoping to bring a big group for a family celebration in a few weeks but tbh I was embarrased how our evening played out after talking my date into going to check it out. I know they're in the soft opening phase, but they seriously need to streamline the rodizio table service. There were verrrrrry LONG stretches between offerings of just a bite and more than once we saw something we wanted hit another big table first and sell out before it got to us, and never return. A Brazilian BBQ should never have guests waiting idle - ten to twenty minutes between bite sized offerings for the showcased tableside food service to arrive. The salad bar needs work, it was skimpy in offerings. Three big bowls of tired looking greens and only sunflower seeds as a green salad topping unless you count a huge bowl of marinated mushrooms, a vat of capers, and canned artichokes (more fresh veggies and fewer deli style salads please!) and not attractively staged. The hot bar needs more offerings than rice and soup, at least two hot vegetable sides and the plantains should be out there on the buffet too. We felt neglected, overlooked in favor of the larger party in our section because they were served first repeatedly and food kept running out before the rodizios got around to our table...while we sat there waiting unfufilled like redheaded stepchildren. The meats were cold by the time they did get around to serving us. Never got the chance to try the lamb, no ribeye, didn't see bacon wrapped chicken or bbq pineapple, and were offered "one or two shrimp?" after waiting twenty minutes between rodizios to be served (are you serious?!) and the shrimp tasted off/old. On top of that the online menu says they offer filet mignon with the full service and it was NOT on the menu at the table. Very disappointed because it was a huge selling point that got us through the door in the first place. The big table kept asking for it, so I know we weren't the only guests that expected it to be offered. We had to ask for the hot fried plantain side dish, when it arrived there was a total of THREE one inch plantain pieces on a plate loaded with mashed potatoes we didn't ask for. Were we supposed to split the third plantain piece? Weird, offputting, and shockingly stingy. The seemingly deliberately slow / avoidant rodizio service was so disappointing and gave the impression that it was a stingy cost cutting tactic by management rather than accidental. Two people and a tab of $168 (with just one beer and we split a flan), we didn't get to try most of the meats listed on the menu, let alone the ones that walked past us to other tables. For the price tag they need to be more generous with the offerings, make sure the rodizio rotation isn't ***constantly leaving a table out of the service*** If there's no meat on our plates and we're just sitting there waiting we need to be served (!). For that cost my date and I shouldn't leave a place feeling abandoned and left out of the fun. This was clearly a management planning/training issue and not really the fault of the servers who all looked frazzled, and under-trained. They need to hire regular table servers to manage drink orders, dessert menu items, etc, add more rodizio servers, and step up the kitchen output and table service strategy considerably. Also add salt and pepper cellars to the tables, some of the food needed it. The rodizios need better knives too, I felt sorry for them sawing on the meat with dull knives. The servers were mostly friendly except for the shrimp guy who seemed overwhelmed and over it. They seemed like they were doing their best for a new place that's obviously understaffed and on a tight budget. This could've been so much better, doesn't come even close to the other Brazil BBQ restaurants I've been to. Disappointed. We'll give them time to work out the kinks before returning. read more

I was looking forward to a wider variety and higher quality cuts of meat, and the buffet-style setup wasn't really my preference. While I understand many people enjoy it, I'm personally not a fan of shared food stations and prefer meals that are prepared and served directly to the table. The restaurant itself is nice, clean, and well-kept, but the overall experience just wasn't my style. I appreciate the great service, but I probably wouldn't return. Room for improvement; still finding their feet? We dined early evening with a large group and left slightly disappointed by the overall experience. The good: The feijoada and garlic rice was very tasty. The fruit bar was fresh and flavorful. The plantains and cheese bread were delicious. The so-so: Aside from the feijoada and fruit, we found the rest of the salad bar to be somewhat lackluster and incohesive. The bad: The meat selections were slow to come out and several offerings never made it to our table. We expected the meat service to be somewhat continuous, but there were long gaps between offerings. It appeared that servers took roughly the same route each round and by the time they reached our corner of the restaurant very little was left. Portion cuts were sloppy (flank carved with the grain??) and small. One table very close to us seemed to get VIP treatment - multiple rounds of shrimp (this item never made it to our table at all) and skewers coming at a much faster rotation. At least 2 offerings would go to their table for every 1 that reached ours. This made the wait between meats feel even longer as we expected the gaucho to come to us next only to see them turn tail and wander off. We had our tokens on green the entire time. Our individual server was great, informative and attentive, and tracked down a specific cut for us upon request. Again, the gauchos could use some improvement - timing, precision and portion sizing. The overall ambiance was alright, if you've been to the old Shamus T Bone's not much has changed aside from removing the tesla coil (end of an era). Overall, if the rodizio's were timed at a faster clip, this would definitely be a deal for the price and a fun, unique style of dining.
