Mrs. Kang was the best second grade teacher ever! She was incredibly funny and welcoming. It's unfortunate that she retired. There are good point to Oak Park such as the music classes and the after school program. I personally appreciate Prime Times efforts to keep the kids safe after school. The teachers and staff truly go above and beyond to create an environment where each child feels seen, valued, and encouraged to grow. We currently have three children at the school, and each of them has had such a positive and unique experience. The balance between strong academics and character development is something we deeply appreciate. It's clear that the school is focused on nurturing the whole child, building confidence, kindness, and a genuine love for learning. One of the highlights for our family has been the musical program. Our daughters have been involved in the school musical, and it has been such a meaningful experience for them. Not only have they grown in confidence and creativity, but they've also formed friendships across different grade levels, which has been so special to see. The sense of community that comes from these programs is truly something unique. We couldn't be happier with our experience and feel lucky every day to be part of this amazing school. There wasn't ever any trouble, just no willingness to be part of school functions, class projects, and we were about to succumb to the idea that was just the way it was. No joy for school or even extra-curricular activities. Well... these teachers did amazing things!! My child is like a whole new kid. The small class sizes helped them focus on my child's needs, and the care the teachers showed made such a difference. Now my child loves school, can't wait to "try" math (it can still be hard) and is in the school play! I would have never thought this could happen. I was just looking for a place where a child could feel welcome and loved, and, oh yeah - learn. I am so very thankful that we took a chance on Mt. Helix Academy. I can't recommend them enough!

I appreciate that their curriculum includes SEL (social emotional learning) and that the students aren't allowed to have cell phones while on campus. The highlight of our experience has definitely been the fantastic teachers! Adrienne Reighard has been a phenomenal teacher for my third grader. She's genuinely interested in getting to know each of her students and finding ways to support their learning. She's so calm, patient and kind, yet firm enough that the kids listen and respect her. She goes above and beyond to create a supportive and efficient classroom environment. And as a parent, I really appreciate her clear, consistent communication. Becca, the 3rd grade teacher's assistant, is also proactive and really gets the kids. Patrick, the Spanish teacher, is one of the most dynamic, engaging, and effective teachers ever. His students love the fun activities and catchy songs he incorporates in his class. He makes learning fun! He also teaches chess and woodcarving and it seems like he can make any subject interesting. Kristy Fitts and Christie Fullerton were also great teachers, and planned lots of engaging projects, field trips, and holiday-themed activities. Nathan, the nature studies teacher, is fantastic and plans some great hands-on activities for the kids, like making their own salads to eat and making their own hugenkultur beds for gardening. For families who prioritize a nurturing environment with smaller class sizes and a variety of electives, this school has a lot to offer. The academics are more relaxed than rigorous, which would be a good fit for those prioritizing a balanced lifestyle. That said, we have found that the school has been navigating some challenges with managing disruptive behavior effectively, which impacts the learning environment.

My son particularly loves learning about animals and the ocean, and there is a Nature Studies class offered, taught originally by Mary and now Nathan. Both excellent! They learn not only about animals, but ecosystems and plants. My daughter told me the other day that they are growing things in the outside garden and making salads from what they grew that they actually get to eat! We have been pleased with all of their teachers so far, but my son's 4th teacher Alexa really stands out. She is vibrant, engaged, and kind, and I can tell genuinely interested in the students and eager for them to learn. My son is sad to see this year come to a close because he has enjoyed the year so much. He has generally not been one to seek out opportunities to lead but Alexa has trusted him to do that, and I can tell it has boosted his confidence. My daughter's teacher this year for third grade is Adrienne. My daughter loves her. She said she is so patient and kind, but she get's the kids to learn. My daughter told me the other day that she wants to become a teacher because of Adrienne- what better testament to her teaching skills than that! My daughter will be sad to see the year come to a close as well. And finally I want to give a shout out to Natasha, the theatre teacher, and Sam, who teaches ceramics. Just wow. The theatre program at Innovations is truly one of a kind. She puts on so many shows, it is hard to see them all! I have enjoyed each and every show I have seen. My kids have also enjoyed classes with Sam. This is also a unique opportunity that not every school has to learn pottery, and working with ceramics to make various things like flowers, pizzas, ghosts, snow men. I love the projects they bring home. No school is going to be perfect, but as a family we are very grateful we found such an amazing school.

This school was just starting out when I enrolled my gifted child there for 9th grade. They gave us the impression this school was pushing children to go above and beyond traditional schools - yeah right. My child was hospitalized and they gave her several in-completes for classes like gym that she missed while in the hospital for several months. They were extremely disorganized and had no idea how to handle her situation. Now, over a year later, the situation is the same. Now, this star student that is on the Principal's List and had a 4.0, now has a 2.5 for that year and is still missing credits needed to graduate. I will be enrolling her into a different school. Let's just hope her credits transfer.

There's many teachers and staff members with no teaching credentials or past experience with teaching. I remember there were a couple of teachers who pretty much did not know how to handle situations. One being a young Mathematics teacher who did not know how to handle the class when a fight happened between two classmates. Usually she would just cry and that made me feel bad. I blame the school for accepting her and bringing her to such a bad environment. A year later she was fired because she was not fit to be a teacher. Honestly that's not on her. Another teacher we had was this Chemistry teacher and he didn't teach us much. All we did was do our work on the computers. NO LECTURES and honestly I did not learn a thing. Seriously, please don't bring teachers to a place where they can be easily humiliated and bullied by disrespectful and immature students. Not only that but the principal, Kevin Bradshaw, is the worse. This guy, former drug addict and all, was made principal without even having a teaching credential! That is just disgraceful. Not only that but he was such a narcissist. He dragged about the second chance in life he got after getting free from drugs and would even have us watch his pathetic documentary like 5 times in our Freshman year. Honestly, this guy thinks like he won a Nobel Prize or earned himself something SO BIG out his little "redemption story arc". He also showed poor leadership. Most of the time the guy was never to be seen in campus. At the time the school had two buildings and since I was at the main building, we thought he was at the other one. But it turns out that the Freshman from that building never knew who Bradshaw was. So makes me question where and what the heck this guy did throughout the whole day. But whenever he was around, oh it was a show! He would always yell and scold the students. And whenever somebody opposed what he said, they were immediately shut up by him. From what I've heard, he was also like this when he pulled out somebody to his office. BOTH STUDENTS AND TEACHERS. He would scold them for minutes and he never let others speak. He never listened to their part of the story. To add to this, he would have his admins vulture around the campus. They would enter EVERY classroom EVERYDAY. They would watch the students and whenever a student was caught doing something they shouldn't be doing (ex: eating Cheetos, having a hood on, being on the phone, etc), they would immediately pull out the teacher from their class and have them be scolded by Bradshaw. This is just terrible. Not only that but also, one of the teachers quitted because he just singled out for a student wearing a hoodie. And his class was interrupted because he was taken out to speak with Bradshaw. I also had another teacher who secretly told students how his mental health couldn't handle the harsh and abusive nature of the principal's talks. There's a lot to talk about this school but yeah, this school is the worse and I hope it gets shut down for good. Tired of how people praise this school for what it's not. Also, I have MANY other stories about the school and its cartoony principal and admins.
