We just parked at the back and walked around. The book we were getting signed was displayed right after walking in. There was confusion which way the line was going to pay though. The line when straight back but then it hit a book shelf and people lined up on either side of it. For busy times, it would be great to know where to stand. The layout isn't ideal with the shelves forming a V instead of horizontal lines. Even though the layout isn't great, the store is big and has lots of selection. They had children activities going on and it was great to see staff there and families doing crafts. The book signing line was along the wall by the Starbucks. People would cross to access the magazine area but it wasn't a major inconvenience for everyone. The staff were good to make sure we paid for our book and asked for our names for the book to be personalized. Someone offered to take our photo with the author which was a nice touch. I didn't browse much but did see to the side of the cash area is the stationary and gift area. A great addition to the strip mall but not a place I would frequent on busy weekends.

And if they do, it's not very convenient! Starbucks is closed! Everything is moved and it seems like they have somehow 20-30 percent empty space! My recent visit was on the hunt for the elusive Shopkins which they had just received a whole shipment of AND they had a B3G1 Free sale! SHUT THE FRONT DOOR. I cannot believe Shopkins were included but they were so we bought a whole whackload! Also picked up a bunch of cute thank you gifts and some clearance items for a rainy day. We were offered assistance by staff members no less than three times on our hour long recent visit and I had initially phoned to see if they had Shopkins in stock and if they were part of the sale. EXCELLENT customer service all around. What I don't like? CANADIAN book prices!!! But I can't really blame Chapters for that. Normally, I'd give 4 stars for this sort of place but the excellent customer service and beautiful kiddo zone left me all smiles even if my pocketbooks was $150 lighter. The negative reviews I've read here seem to expect some kind of big-box-store phony PR campaign from the staff. I think they are mistaking people who are naturally shy or introverted (typical comic book readers?) with being unfriendly or unwilling to help. When I've taken the time to engage with the guys who work here I've had nothing but great experiences, digging through crates to find a certain story arc with my favorite characters, getting recommendations based on other things I've enjoyed, having variant covers set aside until they're ready to go on sale, etc. I'm always greeted by someone at either door when I walk in, and even though they know me by now they always ask if they can help me find anything. I don't know what people are expecting. Complimentary tiramisu? Overall this place is a great regular stop if you're a comic book, tabletop or action figure/memorabilia collector and I strongly disagree with reviews stating that the customer service is lukewarm. If you're comfortable in any other hobbyist shop you'll be comfortable here.

In addition I was there with a tall person recently and the items hanging from the ceiling hit his head. This is not good in general. It's a very disorganized clutter-filled store. And feels unusually crowded even when not many people are in there. I would much rather patronize other similar stores in Edmonton that do not have quite such a cluttered/unsafe aesthetic. It also took us a LONG time to find a staff member to help us in searching for a comic we were seeking (it was unavailable). There isn't as much selection, but there's still little delights to grab for stocking stuffers and cute little gifts. There's the ever present mini books, but I really liked the environmental conscious 'Grow Me Money Plant' as well as other plants and flowers in a cube. Need stocking stuffers for the man who hates everything? I picked up a little contraption for the husband. You push buttons, and it gives various sound effects. There was another type available, but it only made increasingly obnoxious farting sounds. Maybe I should get him that one too. Score of the day was the $25.00 'Starfinder--The Complete Beginner's Guide to Exploring the Night Sky.' It came with it's own planisphere disk. I'm sure I'll be back again before Christmas.

I recently got the…read morechance to check out the new Coles bookstore located on the lower level of Kingsway Garden Mall (just outside of Zellers). The place looks great even though it feels small. The store was a happenin' place to be since the place was packed with shoppers. I really don't like to shop so I'm a list maker. I go in, get what I want and get out. I had a list of four books to locate before I had a panic attack. James, a Coles employee, was my hero. He located three out of the four books on my list... I was able to find the last one on my own using the computer for directions. The staff was great and I would totally go back to do my book shopping and I suggest you do the same.
