From the very beginning, my son who was brand new to the environment was not given a fair opportunity to adjust. Like many toddlers or 1year olds, like my son. He became overwhelmed in a new setting and spit up while crying. Instead of handling the situation with patience and understanding, it was escalated and described as him "making himself vomit" and getting it "all over the place," which was simply not consistent with what I personally observed on his belongings afterward. I was called almost immediately after drop off on multiple occasions and told to pick him up. During a Zoom meeting, I was told they would not send him home right away because he might "learn" that crying means mom picks him up yet that is exactly what happened. He wasn't given time to regulate or adjust. I was told photos were taken and submitted to the agency, but despite requesting them, I was never shown those images. As a parent, that lack of transparency is extremely concerning. There were also statements later attributed to me that I never made. Having inaccurate information shared without verification is unacceptable. When I picked up his belongings, they were left outside on the porch. There was no hostility or aggression from me that would justify handling the exchange that way. It felt dismissive and disrespectful. I also observed additional adults in the home during daycare hours, despite previously being told it would only be the provider and her family. That raised questions for me about transparency and communication. I fully understand that providers have the right to decide if a child is not a good fit. What concerns me is that instead of communicating that directly, there were suggestions that my child had behavioral issues which is not something a daycare provider is qualified to diagnose. Overall, I felt unheard, unsupported, and dismissed. My son deserved patience and a chance to adjust to a new environment. I am sharing this so other parents can ask thorough questions, request documentation when needed, and advocate strongly for their children.

The day care is conveniently located about 8 minutes from my home. It is in Melissa's home. When I visited, the home was very clean and organized. There were awesome Halloween decorations up and even a cool calendar for the month of October. There was a nice, clean play area in the backyard and all of the children there seemed cheerful. The day care environment was safe: there were gates and baby proofed areas. Her assistant was nice and even held my youngest baby while I chatted with Melissa. On Melissa: Melissa was very welcoming and had a really great energy. She was very detailed on the day-to-day activities as well as monthly activities she planned. She spoke about her experience and love for children and I even met her son (early 20s, doesn't live in the home). On why I gave her two stars: I showed great interest in this day care and even offered to leave a deposit to hold the position that Melissa said was available. I also asked if she would be able to keep my 5 year old for after care. She said yes and added that the she didn't have rates for after school care, but would get back to me on Sunday at the latest. That was on a Friday. Before leaving I thanked her. She gave me a contract to read over and we agreed that my husband should look over it as well. I was under the impression that we would move forward. Mainly because: she asked how soon I needed the kids to start (I said Monday), she said she would have a final rate by Sunday, and I asked her several times if she was sure she could keep the kids. All that being said, she flaked. I sent her a follow up text which I didn't expect an immediate response to because it was during her working hours. She didn't get back on Sunday. On Monday, I left a vm asking for an update, but also noting that I'm sure weekends are probably busy so I completely understood if she was too busy. I also stated that I would be understand if she could not take the kids. On Tuesday. She responded via text and basically said there were two other mothers interested and who she would choose was based on 'her and her assistants comfort as well'. I asked how that was determined exactly. I never got a response. It was very frustrating that after expressing how I had been searching for care for 6 months on and off that Melissa dos not have enough professionalism to inform me directly that my children were not selected to attend her day care. I would have not have not been upset to hear that she had decided to go with another family, although it would have been helpful to know how that selection was determined.

The 7:30am start time has also been super helpful for our house with two working parents, and she has been understanding and flexible with our busy work schedules. Cowan's thoughtful policies after an exposure, which will happen, in addition to her travel and sick policies have kept us all safe. Her babies have not had a single positive case that came from daycare. This is a testament to the care and caution she takes. As first time parents, Cowan helped us learn right along with our daughter. Cowan modeled patience through difficult phases, validating that sometimes kids go through weird stuff for a time period and eventually move on. She's seen it all! And she helps normalize things that might have otherwise made us anxious. She gave us gentle advice when we needed it and asked her thoughts and opinions. The biggest positive of being a part of Cowan's daycare, though, was the genuine LOVE that she and her staff have for our daughter and how much our daughter so obviously loves and feels safe with them. Cowan's dedication to her babies is reflected in the quality of each of the members she brings into her team.
