This is a highlight free attraction in the heart of Brisbane. This used to be an industrial area which has been transformed into one of the nicest botanical gardens I've ever visited. It's an easy walk from downtown and right next to the main train station, so it's great to spend a lunch or incorporate into exploring the city. At the entrance there are restrooms and water stations, plus maps of the different areas. The entrance areas are all sculpted flower gardens, as you walk around there are more forested areas, jungle, and ponds. We were there at a great time of the year, it wasn't so hot and everything was in bloom. There are ibis and lizards everywhere too! They really care about the maintenance of this area as landscapers were hard at work as well. There's information about the plants all over too. This would be a great place to relax, take a date, or explore with kids. read more

Found this wonderful park on our recent stay in Brisbane. We were fortunate that there was a Picnic in the Park event on the weekend we were there. It's criminal to say that I can count the times I've been to Roma St Parklands on one hand. Criminal because, just like the Botanic Gardens along the river, we're so lucky to have an oasis of greenery in the heart of Brisbane's city. It's an expansive parkland with many pockets to explore. It's ripe for a family picnic - the kids can safely run around while Mum & Dad enjoy a few gourmet cheeses, for example. It's just waiting for a dog owner, a picnic blanket and the latest page turner you can't put down for a Sunday reading session with the added benefit of some Vitamin D. The fact that this space can make you feel miles from the city is magnificent. It's a moment to ground yourself amongst the rush of life. And should you find yourself peckish there's a cafe in the middle of the park! read more

Oh man I love this place. Every now and then you'll find yourself in the midst of a rain forest and you'll have to walk a bit further on the path, look up, see some high rises, and reassure yourself that you are, indeed, in Brizzie. So let's talk about awesome cool things here: 1. It's free 2. It's beautiful - lots of different types of plants, flowers, trees, and water features 3. Lizards/water dragons are out and about, and they are pretty chilled out so you can come up close and take pictures 4. On certain weekdays its not too crowded and you can have it to yourself. 5. Gorgeous area and plenty of room for everyone to come out. I love the waterfall and the large green space where people (children) can play soccer, fly kites, or layout. I came on a beautiful day and was there for quite some time. The BBQ equipment is great and there are several in the area. They also have a cafe that you can go to if you don't feel like bringing a picnic. The free train ride is so fun and it was adorable to see all the children and their parents. Great place to go with friends or just relax by yourself. It is accessible from Roma Street Bus/Train Station which is really nice. read more

It is a shame that I have not had huge amounts of time to adequately explore this park, particularly since it is quite huge. I guess my experiences have mainly been walking across it from my hotel in Spring Hill to the city below. However I must say everytime I have walked through here I discovered that I have had a decent amount of exercise (namely because it is on the side of a hill, which makes it really difficult to play any decent ball games). I thought the little turret down near Turbot Street was pretty cool, and you also have the old windmill still sitting at the top keeping an eye on the city. I even discovered a statue of Ghandi (though that is a very recent addition to the park). The next time I'm in Brisbane I've really got to spend more time here. read more

I've lived in Brisbane for almost 7 years now and have only just discovered the Roma Street Parkland. Aside from the fact that it's situated only 15 minutes' walk from King George Square, Roma Street Parkland is, horticulturally, amazing. Taking a wander through the gardens there, it is clear that the State Government puts a lot of money into the upkeep of this space. There always seems to horticulturalists wandering around there, marking new designs in the flower beds, planting, watering, mowing, tending the space with care. In a city where there are plenty of trees, but not so many flowers, the Roma Street Parkland is a sensory delight. Whilst the gardens make up the centrepiece of the parkland, there is also a lake, lawns, several large water features, and a small forest. The parkland is also home to an incredible number of water dragons! They are literally everywhere you walk and disguise themselves very well against the concrete paths. For those less fond of lizards, don't worry, these are docile and well accustomed to human presence. Although, I tend to give them a wide berth whenever I visit! Entry is free and guided walks can be arranged provided they are arranged 4 weeks in advance. read more

First time today at Roma street parklands and WOW!! It was so much more then I expected. Great park for the kids to play and plenty of seating for adults to sit back and watch. From waterfalls and rainforest to open park lands there is nothing they don't have. There are bbq's and plenty of tables about, the toilets were extremely clean as is the whole parklands. I was very impressed, we spent over 3hours walking around and then stopped into the cafe for a drink and ice cream for the little ones. I will defiantly be going back. read more

Absolutely beautiful park right next to the CBD, complete with its own subtropical rainforest. The landscaping is incredible, the walking paths are excellent, the fountain is spectacular. There are fruit trees, colourful birds, and water dragons (we watched two of them fighting over territory for about 20 minutes... at least I think that's what they were doing). And best of all it's free. There are free outdoor barbecues here as well, but I would get there early, they fill up fast. read more

I love walking around Roma Street Parklands. It is always very clean and even though there are a lot of people there on the weekends you can always find a good spot to relax, have a picnic or play some cricket. There is a free train ride for kids, looking forward to take my son on it once he is older. The toilets are always clean and there is even soap to wash your hands. A great variety of plants to look around at- I just wish they were labeled. There are bbq that can be crowded but i am sure you could share with people once they are done. Only downfall is that the Council started charging for parking on the weekends and evenings it used to be free. read more

Claims to be the world's largest subtropical garden in a city centre. It definitely is a beautiful site and I commented to my husband that should take visitors there, as I think they'd enjoy it as well. Lots of benches and sitting areas. My favorite area so far is the Fern Gully, felt like being in the middle of the rainforest. There are several Eastern Water Dragons (looks a lot like an iguana, maybe smaller), and one visited us very closely (practically at our feet!). We spent a couple hours there. While walking through the gardens I noticed the name plate for a small tree displaying it as a "Fried Egg Tree" caught my attention, and got amused as its flower does somewhat resemble a fried egg. It is free to go into the park, however if you are driving and using the car park, it does cost money. Cheaper to go on the weekends ($1.00 an hour) read more

The best thing about the Parklands, is that I didn't even know they were there! It is not exactly small or out in the suburbs either, I wandered around for half a day and that was without bringing a picnic lunch. It is practically in the city but when you get in, the city noise and grey colours are lost. I felt a bit like Alice falling into the rabbit hole at first. The gardens are creatively designed with a gorgeous range of flowers, plants, water features and decorations. I really enjoyed the Forest and Fern Gully. It is a subtropical rainforest complete with running water and mist. The mist is supplied by artificial jets but even so, the effect is magical and everything else is authentic. Take your special guy or girl and just go for a walk. I did and it was refreshingly different. read more

A lovely park that I wish I had discovered before my last afternoon in Brisbane. There are so many sections and corners to this park that you are sorted for any type of event. There are large open spaces all section off by gardens, places to sit along the water features, grassy hills to lie on with a book in hand in the sun or shade. There is also a section of the park where it is approved to consume alcohol with food making it a great location for a meal with friends on a lazy weekend in the park. read more

The Roma Street Parklands are so beautiful and spacious. If you ever want to organise an event on the cheap, have a picnic at the Roma Street Parkland! The great thing about the Parkland is how versatile the space is. Although it is mostly a park with lots of land and plants, the place also lends itself to festivals and such. Every year it hosts the Multicultural Festival-a festival that celebrates Brisbane's multi-culturality. I have also seen the place being used for Music festivals. The park is always in impeccable condition which makes it a perfect place to just chill and watch time fly. read more

Roma Street Parkland is a gorgeous, sprawling, mother of a park, and is always pleasant for a stroll, picnic, or as a site for events. At least half of my family have had birthday parties at the parklands because it's a space that accommodates every person's interests. There are barbeques, water features and bridges, beautiful native flora, large ovals with soft grass for frisbee and soccer, playgrounds, historical monuments, picnic tables, and ample parking space. There are also events held here year round, from multicultural festivals, to yoga classes, to play performances. Not to mention the public toilets are quite clean (the bowls are of that cold, stainless steel variety you'll find at beaches); the park staff do a good job of keeping the gardens and its amenities well managed. My cousin had his wedding photos taken here and the backdrop of the parklands was beautiful. Personally, I love the parklands as a scenic short cut to the Roma St railway station. read more

Roma Street Parkland provides a fantastic lunchtime walk destination for any Brisbane City Worker. The beautiful flowers, impressive water features and city/parkland interface form a brilliant destination for a lunchtime stress relief. I wouldn't recommend this park at night by yourself, but any time before dark is safe. read more

A fantastic park right in the heart of the city. Plenty of things for kids to do as there are several different sections of the park including themes such as rainforest, bamboo garden, flower garden and more. There is also a good playground for kids too. Keep an eye out for the many free activities including daily tours at 10am & 2pm and concerts in the amphitheater for time to time. Most things are listed on their website. On weekends and school holidays a train also runs around the park for those that don't want to walk. Plenty of BBQ's around and the grounds are immaculately cared for and frequently changed. Of course there are the obligatory lizards here too. Don't be scared of them. They look meaner than they are. A great place to relax on the weekend and often has many people doing boot caps and personal training during the week. read more

An amazing park!! I have been coming to this park for many years now and have seen many beautiful weddings being held and thought this would be a lovely place to have my own wedding. The park is full of beautiful flowers and has water features with little bridges built in.
