The Smuggler's Inn, located round the corner at the far end of the high street has become one of…read morethe main relics in Burntisland. It is well known and it has been there for years. And you can tell its age from far off. It looks tired from the outside with its less than white walls and its rusty McEwen's and Tenants sign! Inside, the bar doesn't look quite as old as the building. It has a reasonable bar in the traditional sense. It even has a pool table! (Very modern for a smuggler's inn). However, the most striking feature about this place is that the walls are covered in memorabilia linked to the British navy, Burntisland harbour and also, surprisingly smugglers! Drinks are not too expensive at all, and neither are the crisps! It's a place for locals and hotel guests, but apart from that, expect it to my quiet, just how the old smuggler's liked things!

Being ignorant train riders and apparently poor map readers, we jumped on the train in Kinghorn and got off at the Burntisland station. Don't judge, we're from Hawai'i, geography is not our strong suit. Ask us about volcanoes and we will chat up a storm. Anyhow, I digress. So we jump into our Googlemaps page (a la Joey Tribiani from Friends) and figure out we have to walk about 3/4 of a mile back towards where we came from. We ask directions from a 16 yr. old girl in a 2nd floor window. She hmmm'd and haw'd a bit so we were a little iffy about believing her. We walked in that directions and asked a few more people along the way. The good news is that we worked off our calories before we actually ate and we had a fantastic walk along the Burntisland beach yah? Once there, we were greeted and shown to our table by a server which we later discovered was also the bartender, the host and quite possibly the cook too. He was AWESOME and funny and called Kinghorn Taxis @ 01592-890890 for us so we wouldn't be stranded. Which by the way, Hamish, the owner came and picked us up himself and became our go to taxi for our stay. Honestly, I don't quite remember everything the seven of us ordered (might have been the long walk). What I do remember is the Steamed Shetland Mussels with creamy white wine, garlic and parsley sauce. TO DIE FOR!!! If you happen upon this place, please make sure this is a part of your meal. You will not regret it. Save some bread so you can dip it in the broth. Next time I'm in Burntisland I will definitely stop for a large serving of the Steamed Shetland Mussels.

Having said that, I truly believe that if I were visiting this place under my own steam, I would still absolutely love it. We were treated to their steak and wine deal: 2 10oz sirloin steaks with skin-on chunky chips, mushrooms, onion rings + sauce and a bottle of wine for £35. Pretty decent deal, no? It also happened to be delicious; juicy steak, crispy hearty chips, flavourful mushrooms, rich whisky sauce for me and the onion rings were delicious! The inn itself is delightfully cosy and warm with a decently stocked bar (no doubt that will come in handy at the wedding :P) and the staff (including my best friend's lovely fiance) are all helpful and extremely polite and conscientious. Well worth a trip to Fife and I'm sure it's also great for an overnighter :)

Family run by the incredibly kind John, Liz, and Joe , you truly feel like part of the family when you enter the premises. Our rooms were spacious, beautifully decorated and impecabbly clean. The breakfast and dinner at the hotel is AMAZING. A great selection that was always vegetarian friendly, cooked with obviously high quality ingredients. The chef even came out to personally greet us after we extended our gratitude for such a wonderful meal to our extremely personable and attentive waiter, Kyle. This hotel is in a PERFECT location. We were able to walk to some wonderful shops and many restaurants and were even within walking distance to the water and the incredible Aberdour Castle, which only cost 6 pounds to have full-run of. WELL worth the money. We are already anxiously planning our trip back to The Woodside. This place is fantastic.

The couple who owns this hotel was extremely helpful in giving us tour tips and ways to get into Edinburgh by train instead of driving. Just a short walk from the train station, we walked both days to the station with a light walk back to the hotel when we returned. Located in a charming village, it was near everything and far enough away to be comfortable. Highly recommend this hotel.

Correctly named as a motel, think 60's American movies where you drive upto the front door of your…read moreroom and rent the room by the hour and your not far away. The bar of the establishment has million dollar views over the forth and Kinghorn Beach and is well used by locals. Since it is virtually on the route of the Fife Coastal path worth dropping in for a swifty but never during an old firm match. Unfortunatley secterianism is a "loyal" and frequent patron to the Carousel when the Teddy Bears are live on TV. If that vile bile is not your tipple at least all the bars in the town will be less polluted.
