It seemed the wait staff from the bar handled our table, which meant we didn't get a true waiter's attention. The appetizers were excellent, but the pork dish was dry, and the chutney topping seemed to come straight from a can. We didn't have a bad experience, but we didn't have a great experience. A shame, as it was a college graduation celebration. Also, check your bill 2x, as items were improperly priced & added (all more expensive of course) and they had to change the prices out. I had the backyard burger $13 on gluten free $2 with cheddar. The meat was cooked great but the burger itself was just okay. My fiancé had the Rooster $16 and he said it was one of the best burgers he's had. The bacon jam was excellent then it had this egg on top that brought it all together. My nephew ate the flatbread pepperoni $10 and he said it was delicious. The garlic and sweet potato fries were also delicious. Then we had a yelp free dessert. My fiancé said the pecan pie was delicious. So if your looking for a place to stop that has great views and excellent service then stop by. After eating I started feeling very odd. I immediately got sick. My grandma's house is very close maybe 5-7 minutes so I immediately rushed home and began throwing up violently. The waitress promised me my food was gluten free, I am allergic. So when I come hold to visit I will never return here. If you have a allergy to gluten clearly this restaurant is not safe. I often end up taking customers out for lunch downtown and depending on schedules, Roost is a frequently chosen location. They have large Salad/Hot Bar with Salad, Soups, Flatbreads, etc. The atmosphere is great with a large bar area, patio seating downtown and lots of large booths and tables. They even have a couple of large ten tops for business lunches. For my lunch I ordered the Hamburger Steak special with Whipped Sweet Potatoes. The Hamburger Steak had a great flavor, but the meat was very dense, and I had to use a knife to cut into the patty. As a side note, their burgers are the same, very dense. Now the Whipped Sweet Potatoes, were incredible, easily the best I've ever had. I'd love the recipe so I could make them for Thanksgiving. In the past I've also had their Flatbreads which a great option if you want something quick and easy. Roost is a great lunch location, with all the variety downtown I often overlook it, but I'm never disappointed when I do make the visit. read more

We decided to have Thanksgiving dinner here because there was a sickness in the family and home cooking just wasn't an option this year. We reserved a table for 8 at 6:30pm. When we arrived they tried to seat us next to the bar and it was too loud to talk so we asked them to move us which they did. Then we waited for about 15 mins before anyone acknowledged us. We were eventually told by another server to help ourselves to the buffet. There were brunch items and the regular thanksgiving staples to choose from. All the breakfast items were unappetizing and obviously had been sitting for hours. I tired a piece of French toast and it was like rubber. I didn't see one person attend to the food items on that side the whole time we were there. On the other side, the thanksgiving food was just ok. The Mac and cheese was more like Mac and eggs. No one at our table really liked it. The green bean casserole was full of greasy sausage and we didn't like that either. The turkey at the carving station was super dry. The rolls and croissants were stale. They also ran out of most deserts and only had pumpkin pie and some stale cookies. We tried to make the most of it but felt that $42 a person was too much to pay for what we received. The service was not great. We got our drinks then had to ask for refills. I can't say enough positive things about this restaurant. For me, food allergies are a huge deal. I'm allergic to soy and locating a restaurant that is food allergy, well, good luck. With Roost, they took care of me. We put in a carry out order, as we were staying in a hotel a block away. My husband and I had a drink at the bar while we waited. Everyone was friendly and attentive when it came to my soy allergy. I ordered the Lemon Thyme Chicken. Good lawd! I'm addicted to the sweet potato mash. Instead of the quinoa slaw, they gave me delicious roasted vegetables. I'm beyond impressed with this restaurant. I wish more places put this much effort into their food allergy guests. Roost is a great spot with a nice patio outside, nice wood decor and yummy food and drinks. I had the special cocktail-- princess peach and it was sweet with wine and vodka and fruit. They have a number of gluten free options for food, so I had a gf pizza and it was delicious. My friends got the chicken club, spinach salad with grilled chicken and the fried catfish and everyone loved what they got. I had key lime pie tart for dessert and it was light and refreshing. We came here for Sunday brunch. It is an all you can eat buffet for $22. You can not order off the normal menu during that time. That being said, the buffet was great. There is a massive amount of food from eggs, bacon, grits, biscuits and gravy, to a salad bar with all the toppings, to a lunch bar with things like roasted potatoes, Mac and cheese, and fried chicken. Lastly there is a dessert bar with a few pastry/ bite size options. Overall if you are hungry it is well worth it. Mimosas and Bloody Marys are $4 during brunch. My wife and I ate at this restaurant several years ago for the first time and I remember we liked the food but we thought the price was ridiculous so we didn't go back for a long time. Instead we chose to go to the Marriott for their Sunday brunch, which was excellent and much more reasonably priced. However after Covid hit, the Marriott quit serving Sunday brunch so we decided to come back and try roost one more time. Again we found the price to be ridiculous but overall we really enjoyed the food. My wife started out with the salad bar and she loved it but I decided to start out with the lunch bar and I was very disappointed. They only had two meats on the lunch bar, pulled pork barbecue with only mustard based barbecue sauce and a pan that said fried chicken. I was expecting good old southern fried chicken but what was in the pan instead was little bitty chicken tenders that were very dry. There was no kind of fish, no beef of any kind, only those two meats. The vegetables were pretty good. They had collard greens and brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes with gravy and macaroni and cheese. The macaroni and cheese was not good, in fact it was so dry you had to cut it with a knife to be able to eat it. When I came back to the table I told my wife how disappointed I was in this place. However we had both ordered omelettes and when the waitress brought them to the table they were wonderful. So I decided to go to the breakfast bar to add breakfast meat and grits. The only breakfast meat they had was bacon, which was delicious but there were no other choices like sausage patties or links. The breakfast bar did have scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, roasted potatoes, and French toast. It also had oatmeal. After eating her salad and her omelette with grits, my wife said she did not want any dessert because she was so full but I decided to go see what they had anyway. When I saw the pecan pie I knew she would want some so I got a big slice. I must say and she also, it was the best pecan pie we have ever had. I would love to have given this restaurant 4 1/2 maybe even five stars because the service was really good. Our servers name was Caroline and she even offered to give us tea free of charge since it's not included in the price of the meal. However if they cannot do any better than what they had that day for the lunch meats, they will never get four stars from me. The price of the Buffet was $25 per person plus tax and tip. For the two of us that day it cost $64. And I would not have minded paying that much had they had good meat choices on the lunch bar. I have passed by this place a few times thing it wasn't nothing special, just another restaurant in the hotel. But I was wrong. Based on other reviews I decided to give this place a try on a Monday evening. Boy am I glad we did! When I walked in I was seated in the covered patio, which at first I was a bit hesitant since it was a chilly night, but as soon as you enter the section you feel the warmth, so no difference if you sat indoors in my opinion. I started with the Spicy Pineapple Margarita which is made with their house made pepper tequila. It has a quick to it. It was really good. I also tried thee Roost Old Fashioned and in my opinion was a decent Old Fashion. For our entrees we split two because we couldn't make up our mind since it all sounded delicious. We ordered the Heritage Pork chop (bone-in) with a peach chutney, garlic sautéed blue lake beans, and duck fat roasted fingerling potatoes. The chops and chutney were delicious also with the beans. Very flavorful. The second entree was the New York Strip with garlic fries and Brussels sports. The steak was cooked as we ordered and was tender and juicy. The Brussels sprouts was delicious with shaved Parmesan and bacon. A very delicious dinner for sure. Stop by and try it for your self, you won't be disappointed. read more

The breakfast buffet was open and looked nice but we ordered off the al la cart menu. I got the roost burger and that was pretty good. The pimento cheese was the star here. It was a creamy concoction of cheese that leave you wanting more. I also like how their bacon jam contrasts the heaviness of the burger with sweetness and the veggies give the burger some freshness. Only complaint I have here is for the meat patty. It was either too overworked or pre-made and frozen so it didn't have the right consistency and came out dry, despite being cooked medium. Stopped in for a late lunch on a weekday, mostly because of the wide open space on the terrace protected by plastic. Safety first- there were few customers and the plastic isn't secured at the bottom, so much fresh air flows in. We were greeted at the host stand by Joe, who seated us, and took our orders. The menu isn't expansive, but given the inventory challenges with business so significantly slowed by the virus, still plenty to choose from. We ordered the Green Goddesses Grilled Chicken Sandwich (with one choice of side, $13), asked to leave off the arugula and went with the Roasted Brussel Sprouts at our server's suggestion. We also had the vegan-friendly Margherita Pizza ($11). The chicken sandwich was a fair portion, but rather bland. The Roasted Brussels would be a hard pass the next visit as far as I'm concerned- cold, overly moist, and with flavor that suggested they sat in the kitchen for awhile. The Margherita Pizza was enough to box up and enjoy later, but frankly didn't travel well. High marks for the effort in the space, as guests arrived after we were seated they were pointed towards tables that left at least two open tables between us. read more
