MY APOLOGIES TO ROOSTER'S!! I was oh, so wrong. Here's the deal: I've driven past Rooster's 50+ times and made assumptions about it. Up and down the shoreline of Lake Michigan, there are hundreds of little buildings which sell beer/wine/liquor/some groceries/some meats, .etc. Think of them as "old-school convenience" stores, oriented towards tourists/campers. In a sense, that's what Rooster's is; decent choice of items described above, but then, folks, step up to the counter, ask for a menu, check out the hot food display followed by the cold food options and then the "Specials" board. Then, step back to contemplate your order. Here are your options: great fried chicken dinners/boxes or by the piece; very good homemade macaroni/coleslaw/potato/pasta salads; cold sandwiches made with superb "Bit O' Swiss" bread; hot vegetables/mac and cheese/homemade mashed potatoes and gravy along with their potato chips. For larger orders, go to their website, figure out what you want and call in to get things moving. Hours vary in/out of season. Friendly, efficient service. Takeout only. I'm impressed! read more

This is a family favorite! We go here for chicken almost exclusively. Best chicken around!!

When we bought our house in 2018, the sellers told us that the convenience store across the street has the BEST fried chicken in town. We thought they may be joking, but it's absolutely true!! Their refrigerated section is perfect to grab before heading down to the beach for a picnic; Our favorites are the macaroni salad, broccoli salad, deviled eggs, and tuna sandwich. There's also usually yesterday's fried chicken for $1 and some change and it's still great! Of course, the fresh chicken and sides steal the show- my husband LOVES grabbing their lun chi specials during the week. Wine and beer selection is wonderful and great place to stop for a drink and some snacks. Rooster's is a beloved gem in this town! read more

The friendliest employees here, and the absolute best food! Just love their chicken, with choices of fried or baked. Wednesday is rib day, and they're fall off the bone tender. Weekdays have a daily food special and the prices are excellent. They also have some pretty good side items as well as far as fries, mashed potatoes and gravy, a veggie, and even some cold salads. The deviled eggs are very tasty too! The store is clean, and service is always with a smile. They also have a nice selection of snacks as well as alcohol items. The chicken here is amazing. I also love the mashed potatoes, potato salad, macaroni salad, deviled eggs, and mac and cheese. The green beans, corn, and baked beans are fine but seem canned. I wouldn't order any fried sides that are sitting in a case but if they can make them fresh I may give them a try. I love the cheap mini sides. I hate having to pay $4 for a side of something I may not like. It is easy to sample the sides here without spending a lot. The store part is a typical party store and the staff is nice. read more

Hidden gem. Grab the chicken salad from the refrigerated section. Tastes like it was made by somebod's grandmother before a big picnic. It's legitimately good and I can get a small cup and make two sandwiches out of it for under $4. Also great with crackers if hosting guests and need an easy appetizer. They're probably best known for their fried chicken. Don't wait until too late in the day, though. It'll be gone. read more

I love Rooster's!! The wine selection is great. Their deli sandwiches are made on Bit O Swiss Bread, and the new jumbo wings are awesome!!!
