I saw the posting of Dave F. and felt the need to share my experience with The Roostertail and Shawna. My Fiance and I got married at the Roostertail in February and I have to say she is the reason we booked there. Let me explain.... We had been to a couple events over the years at the Roostertail but never thought we could afford it; (as we were paying for it ourselves) but, as the planning process started, we grew more frustrated with our search of venues because most venues only take meetings from 10-5pm. So, it was really hard for us to actually see other venues let alone speak to someone! Which brings me to the roostertail; just to see what they had to offer we called to see if we could get an evening appointment and to our surprise. Shawna was eager and excited to sit down with us and was willing to meet us late(as I work in Farmington and don't get off until 6pm) We originally wanted a June wedding on a shoe string budget. She asked us to make a "wish list" and a "must have list" which we did; no numbers were discussed at this point; only what we wanted our Dream Wedding to be. After crunching some numbers and reviewing our list, she said "I can do everything on your list" within the budget we set if we would consider an off season month like January or February. (My dream wedding had it been June would have been double). At that point we realized that our Dream Wedding was possible and that Shawna was going to make it happen. As many of you know, the Roostertail has amazing views but in February with the River frozen we weren't sure how it would look but Shawna reassured us that a Winter Wonderland Wedding could be accomplished thru lighting, linens, decore ect... From this point on we knew the Roostertail was where we wanted to be!! From the day we signed to the Wedding Day our experience was amazing!! Shawna always made me us feel like I was her only Groom. Our guests are still talking about our wedding. None of our friends want to be next to get married because they can't top ours. As for the food, we didn't do a tasting either but had been to events there and knew it was great! We did passed hors d'oeuvres during cocktails (we tried a few but we were late getting there from photos) for Dinner we did a Salmon/Filet Dinner (same plate) that was incredible. We also did a sweet table, which frankly exceeded our expectations; it was 26 feet of homemade desserts it actually put our cake to shame, but we only did a small cake from Farmington for pictures. As if it couldn't get any better we did our first dance and the floor came up; it was breath taking. They have beautiful Fountains too but, we couldn't use them because the river was frozen; obviously. At the end of the evening the shuttle we paid for from a Downtown hotel stopped running shuttles with 30 guests; including us. Still at the Roostertail Shawna's commitment to customer service; she called Sinbads next door and asked if she could borrow their Red Wings school bus. She was able to get us, our bridal party, and parents to the hotel; so we could continue our evening. Any one that reads this and is considering the Roostertail for their wedding should absolutely call and ask for Shawna! read more

I'm a soon to be bride, currently planning my July 2015 wedding at the Roostertail, and I couldn't be more excited. First of all, my fiancee and I looked at approximately 25 different venues... when we walked into the Roostertail we both immediately looked at each other and thought "this is it... this is the place." My wedding coordinator Shawna (senior director of events & sales) has been a joy to work with in every aspect of our wedding planning. Without batting an eyelash, she responds to my phone calls and emails promptly and with great care... even if I just have one simple question about which type of chair sashes to use, or whether we should use round or square tables. Many of my friends keep mentioning how stressful wedding planning has been for them, and asking "how are you going to school full time and working and planning a wedding all at the same time??" ...and my answer is simple. Shawna & the staff at The roostertail have made it so easy!! We came for the tasting last year to pick out the menu for our wedding & the food was delicious. We got to meet the owner & learned a lot about the rich history of the venue and the many famous Motown performances and other local celebrities who put The Roostertail on the map as a historic Detroit landmark. We came back a few months ago to sit down, share our vision & plan more details of the wedding and were made to feel right at home. My parents even popped in recently on a weekday to ask some questions about the upcoming wedding without an appointment, and they said Shawna welcomed them and answered all of their questions & helped them understand the whole layout and how things will go the day of the wedding... With an anxious mother, it was such a relief to hear that she was put at ease after this meeting. Shawna has also given us great advice and suggestions from her many years of experience planning weddings about things that i would have never even thought of (i.e. don't serve a cheese platter during an outdoor cocktail hour in the middle of sweltering july heat). We have heard great things from friends who have hosted events here (weddings and proms), many of them mentioning Shawna in particular being the reason things went so smoothly. If you are given a different event coordinator - not to worry! Many of them consult with Shawna for supervision on the event planning anyways. She has shown us that she will go above & beyond to make sure our wedding is nothing short of a fairy tale, and I highly recommend considering the Roostertail as your venue if you want all the bells and whistles of a gorgeous wedding with the least amount of stress. read more

Well, I did it! I tied the knot, it was almost 7 years ago, and I havent been to a wedding like mine since! I was fortunate enough to have worked with one of the finest wedding coordinators I have met to date, Shawna Eaton, who held my sweaty little hand the whole way! I started with a beautiful ceremony on the river front down the long, glistening dock. The breathtaking view that summer day was perfect to say the least. We followed that with a very uplifting, celebratory cocktail reception on the first floor. Shawna decked the place out in beautiful linens, worked with the florist to perfectly decorate every nook, right down to the glamorous ladies room! You couldnt swing a dead cat without hitting an ice cold drink, clenched by a guest with a huge smile!!! Everyone was having a blast, and they hadent seen anything yet! We were called to the top floor for a very beautiful, elegant strolling dinner buffet, with lights and candles and perfect music, and the dinner was all anyone talked about!!! It was fantastic, and very professionally done, everything I ever wanted in a wedding dinner! After that we were directed back downstairs for the reception, which was where the most work was done. They flipped the whole room, from flowers to linens, to light and even furniture while we ate dinner! It was spectacular, made to look like an upscale waterfront, downtown, nightclub!!! And it did, we had some very special entertainment, which required alot of extras on the Roostertails part, and thanks to Shawna, we got it all! My guests were at all times, intrigued to say the least. Everyone was treated like they were PAYING for this affair, and that was very special to my husband and I. When you spend as much time and money as I did planning one night of your life, you want to make sure no detail goes untouched, not one person is left in the dust and every need you did or did not anticipate having that special night is delt with, with grace and under the radar so to speak! Thank you to the Roostertail staff who worked so hard for us, and pulled it off effortlessly, and to Shawna for making that happen! Our daughter's wedding, originally planned for 10.10.20 in Grosse Pointe was rescheduled during the pandemic for 7.1.21. Sadly, in January of 2021, the venue announced a major renovation and moved all weddings outdoors to a tent. Six days before the wedding, the tent was damaged in a storm, creating the need for a very quick venue change. In stepped the Roostertail, just 3 days before the wedding! From the moment we met Nicole and Michael, they were confident, reassuring, and positive they could create a dream wedding in only a few days. With so little time to make changes and notify guests, we had to trust Nicole and Michael and leave all the details to them. They exceeded our expectations in EVERY POSSIBLE WAY! It is impossible to express the feeling walking into the Roostertail and then watching our daughter and son in law walk into the gorgeous Palm River room, with the absolutely breathtaking view. The entire staff was attentive, professional, and anticipated and met our needs before we even asked! Michael asked my favorite drink when we first met and ordered the malibu to make it, Nicole made sure I had that drink in hand all night long. The food was delicious and beautifully presented and received so many compliments. The owner, Tom Schoenith, even joined and shared stories and memories with our guests. During the evening they added a dry ice drink bar that was such a surprise and a hit with everyone! Guests were absolutely in awe of the Roostertail and their ability to create the night in a matter of days. Their attention to detail was incredible and they appeared to enjoy the night as much as we did. Nicole even created a slideshow of Lauren and Conner from Instagram pictures! Our only regret is that we didn't book the Roostertail from the start as their all inclusive package (food, cocktail hour, appetizers, premium bar, chiavari chairs, linens, table vases, outdoor covered ceremony deck overlooking the water, specialty drinks, and tax and gratuities) would have saved us time booking outside vendors and money. Thank you Nicole, Michael, Tom and all the Roostertail staff for making Lauren and Conner's dream wedding possible and truly better than they ever imagined it would be. read more

Where do I begin talking about our daughter's wedding at the Roostertail. In fact, guests that attended the wedding are still talking about it. It was wonderful! The view, the ambiance, the venue, the food, the staff and most of all the sales person/coordinator...that would be Shawna Eaton. Yes, the Roostertail is a fab/beautiful place but without the coordination, the ideas, the expertice of Shawna our experience could of been just another beautiful venue. We had visited numerous venues in our search for the wedding and most of the sales people made us feel like, "oh, another wedding." My daughter and I wanted to say, "no, this is a very special day, our special day. Treat us like you care." That is when we met Shawna. From day one, with her easy style, caring approach, helpfulness, creativeness, we knew we would be taken care of and things would be handled. She made us feel like we were not "just another wedding." We met with her many times in decisions/suggestions about the wedding (our daughter was married on the patio by the Detroit River)/reception. We emailed her way too many times...We never felt like we were bothering her. As time went on with our planning, my mom (bride's grandmother) had to have very, very unexpected/major surgery. The wedding planning had to go to the side. Our emphasis had to be on surgery and recovery. We shared this with Shawna and she told us to put our energies into family. We knew she would handle the wedding. The day of the wedding, we were so relaxed and enjoyed our day so much knowing everything would be beautiful. We couldn't believe how beautiful it was. I can't say enough about our experience with Shawna at the Roostertail. She is a very special person. She understands priorities and makes you feel like you are not a pest, not a dollar sign, not a crazy MOB. She wants your daughter's special day to be the best! The Roostertail made our day come true! We had a longggg and bumpy wedding planning journey. We had gotten engaged in 2018 and decided to plan ahead and have the wedding 4/4/2020. Wellllll we originally were booked at a different venue. Which a few months before our wedding, closed. They transferred us to their sister location. Which a week after also closed as the company went bankrupt!!! . It was a brides nightmare! But We were then saved by the Roostertail! They were so kind and flexible and able to get us in and work with us to move the whole wedding there! I cried so many tears of joy!.....Then Covid hit. And weddings as a whole were haluted. When Covid started to lift a bit near the end 2020 the Roostertail stayed in the know and reached out to see about making sure our wedding still happened. Knowing they cared about us is such crazy times meant so much!! So November 2020 it was! However there was another ill timed Covid resurgence. we sorted out our life around Covid for awhile and the Roostertail stayed true to us. After a long wait we were able to make it happen March 2022!!! Nicole is BEYOND amazing! She was kind and clear and made everything so easy for us. The staff was all very organized and friendly and the guests we all so happy! I know I talked about how we got there after a bunch of craziness but I am SO HAPPY we did. It is an absolutely beautiful venue!!! The spacing and the layout were all customized just for us. We were in the palm river room and the VIEWS were perfection as the sunset. All my vendors enjoyed working there and I had a lot of guests come to me and share "this is my new favorite place" "this venue is so beautiful" "everyone should get married here". And I agree!!! It worked out after bumps for us but if you read this whole long review, you don't need to worry about anything if you pick the Roostertail now. Do it. It's a dream come true read more

Accounting Aid Society recently had the pleasure of hosting our annual Celebration Event at the Roostertail in Detroit, Michigan, and we cannot say enough about the fantastic experience we had with the Roostertail staff. Our event was held in the stunning Marine Room at sunset, and the backdrop of the Detroit River added a touch of magic to our evening. It's hard to put into words the gratitude that I feel to the Roostertail for making our day so special. My husband and I got married and had both our ceremony and reception at the Roostertail on 9/23/2023. It couldn't have been a more beautiful day! The venue is so beautiful, the food was incredible, and the staff is amazing. Plus, the musical history of the Roostertail cannot be beat - one of the first things that had drawn us to the venue! My guests continue to rave about the view, the deliciousness of the food and the great pours! I wanted to give a special shout out to Nicole and Ava. Nicole was our day of venue coordinator, as well as my point of contact throughout my whole wedding planning journey with the Roostertail - she was an absolute dream to work with and any bride would be lucky to have her on their team! She made me and my entire family feel so welcomed and cared for - she went out of her way to attend to my every need the day of my wedding. When she heard that our morning plans fell through with our hotel vendor so I didn't have a breakfast, she offered up some of her personal snack stash to make sure I wasn't starving during the ceremony. Ava was so helpful throughout the night to attend to the needs of my family and I. She heard that I liked rum, so she got me a flight of different rums to sample! She truly made me feel so special. The staff here truly cannot be beat, they treat you like family and they go above and beyond. You can feel that this is a family owned business through and through. The Roostertail went above and beyond to make our day the wedding of our dreams. We even got to meet the owners, Tom and Diane, while we were there and they gave us a gift on our way out. When searching for a prom venue, one of the most difficult things in your search is finding a venue that "has it all". The Grosse Pointe North Class of 2022's definition of "all" included a beautiful venue (one that needed to be large enough to host our 300+ person prom), a formal menu that would still please high schoolers, decorations that were mostly included, and a sizeable dance floor. The most important factor was price point. When we were searching for venues, we looked at several, and none of them seemed to have what we wanted. That's until we toured Roostertail. The Roostertail truly checks all of the boxes. We did a virtual tour of the venue, and Nicole, who was our personal event planner through the venue, was so helpful and accommodating, and made sure to answer all of our questions. Since we are such a large school, we rented out both rooms, so we had the entire venue to ourselves. The view of the Detroit river is breathtaking, and there are outdoor spaces on both levels, and our class adored the one on the bottom floor especially. Everyone LOVED the prom from the gorgeous decorations to the delicious dinner. The women's restrooms were also very nice and modern, which is incredibly important for a bunch of teenage girls. The staff is also incredibly professional and accommodating, especially Nicole. Nicole was so helpful to us from when we toured to when prom was over, both in helping our advisor with any questions or requests while planning for the event, and in being ever-present to help troubleshoot anything at all during the event itself. The Roostertail has the science of hosting a prom down pat, and they are virtually impossible to beat with all that they offer at such a wonderful price point. read more

Our daughter and now son-in-law's wedding this past weekend at the Roostertail was absolutely amazing. Only living in Detroit for a few months, and with help from her native-Detroit born fiance, our daughter visited several venues, ultimately choosing the Roostertail...and she made the perfect decision. As parents living in So.Cal., we had to cede responsibilities of 99% of the wedding planning to the soon-to-be wedded couple. Nicole Spicuzza and her team guided them along and the resulting evening was magical. The river front venue was beautiful, the air conditioning perfect for a warm Detroit evening and the amazing fountains in the background behind the bandstand surprised everyone as they came on at the most perfect time during the reception. We want to give a special shout-out to the Roostertail's chef and kitchen staff. The food far exceeded our expectations. From the hors d'oeuvres, to the salad, to the main meal, the quality was truly exceptional. I'm not sure anyone expects a wedding banquet to be at a 'fine restaurant' level, but the Roostertail is the exception. Fabulous food...if the Roostertail was open as a public retaurant, I would be a frequent visitor and that is saying a lot. After recently having our wedding here, we would highly recommend the Roostertail for anyone who is looking to book a venue for any upcoming occasion. Not only did the staff greatly accommodate each guest, but the atmosphere is one that can not be found anywhere in Metro Detroit. It is definitely a hidden gem. Having our cocktail hour directly on the Detroit river is what has left our guests raving. As the sun went down, the fountain, which is located in the back of the Roostertail over looking the River, was going off and lighting up the back of the venue. This enhanced the already stunning venue in which we were spending our most special day. They bend over backwards to accommodate your every need. My husband and I interviewed all five star venues in the Metro Detroit area, and we settled on the Roostertail because there was not one thing they would not accommodate for us. There was no "no' in their vocabulary. You name it, the Roostertail provides it. They take pride in specializing each event to your individual taste. Thank you to Shawna, the Roostertail manager, Tom and Diane, the owners, for far exceeding our expectations on our special day. Be sure to contact them! The Roostertail is the most beautiful and refreshing venue to leave both you and your guests beaming. If I could give this a 20 star review I would !!!!! Everything was just absolutely amazing! Words couldn't explain. The minute I walked into the roostertail about a year ago looking for my venue, I was greeted by Shawna... now if you know Shawna there is not one bad thing to say about her! The very first day of meeting her we cried together we shared some personal things with each other and was sitting there crying lol. We clicked right away! She was such a mother figure to me through this whole process. She got along with everyone. She loved my sister in laws hahah. When she met my husband, omg they were sitting there for 2 hours talking about cars! She made us feel like we were at home if I could do it all again I wouldn't trade Shawna for the world. She made sure I had the wedding of my dreams. The day of my wedding, Ava was with us! Every time I turned around she was there to make sure I was doing good and had a drink in my hand she even fixed my dress! She has the needle and thread ready! I appreciate her so much. Absolutely made our night easier. I couldn't thank her enough. Also with Nicole, running around making sure my husband and I was good and everyone had everything they needed. My experience at the Roostertail with NaShelle Hill as my event planner was the most memorable, stress free experience. From the first interaction, day 1, NaShelle has been professional, accommodating, and provided service above extraordinary. I am extremely detailed oriented and she met me right there, managing all my details with me being hands-off. Her ability to do this was impressive and such a testament to her passion for service and making her clientele happy. On the day of my event she exceeded all of my expectations. There was never a moment during my planning, event, or after, that she wasn't available to answer any question I had or deliver meticulously with a smile. Her warming spirit felt as if she was a part of my family and I will never forget how she made my event one of perfection and most memorable. The Roostertail has always been my favorite venue. I have been to several events there. This pandemic school year 2020-2021 brought major issues for High School Senior Class Sponsors like myself. Not knowing what was going to happen from day to day with our seniors, was truly stressful. When our students found out in Late April that they would indeed be able to have their prom at the Roostertail, I knew that they would be pleased. We had absolutely no budget in that we could not have fundraisers because of Covid or collect senior dues. The Roostertail fully accommodated us, providing more than I could have ever imagined. The food was excellent, the decor as well as the service was top notch. I will continue to give Nicole the highest praise. She is the sweetest, kindest host that I have ever worked with, and I have worked with a quite a few. I highly recommend the Roostertail to anyone planning a luxury event. WELL WHEN IT COMES TO PERSONAL PREFERENCE, THIS SITE TOOK MY BREATH AWAY. It is a catered event and their chef is one of the best in michigan. Their food exceeded my expectations and came out nice and hot. I had my wedding their in june and their sales coordinator helped me with everything right down to the last detail. At first I thought the price was high as well, until my coordinator broke down what you really pay for instead of hidden costs. I had the VP of Fortune 100 and he was even in shock just how amazing and professional the staff, sales coordinator and managers were. He even mentioned he looked forward to plan out events at the Roostertail. The floor rose when our first dance begun and the water works played in the background where they have fountains that stream from behind you. Walled Lake Western High School held their senior prom at The Roostertail earlier this month. The venue is absolutely gorgeous and the students deemed it "Instagram-worthy." So pretty, we didn't need to bring in additional decoration. The students loved the balcony and floor-to-ceiling windows looking over the Detroit River. We also appreciated the secure, private parking lot. Nicole, Director of Sales, was such a joy to work with. She helped us put together a realistic payment plan for a school organization, and always got back to us immediately when we had questions. The venue cut and served the cake we brought in, provided us with easels for our seating charts, and even broke out a few neon signs around the bar area that fit our Motown Nights theme. The Roostertail and Nicole were absolutely amazing. We had initially booked for September 2020 and when it became clear that wasn't going to be an option any longer, Nicole and the Roostertail staff did everything they could to make the postponement smooth and low stress. Nicole was so attentive and answered all of our questions in a timely manner. When it came to the week of the wedding she was so on top of her game that we felt totally at ease leaving the rehearsal. She was so great with communication, set up, and suggestions when we needed them (plus she's the sweetest person ever). The staff was fun, friendly, and took safety precautions very seriously. We've received endless compliments about the venue, the staff, and the food. I cannot recommend the Roostertail enough. My wife and I had our ceremony and our reception at the Roostertail and what can we say, they were perfect! Erica was on top of it! The food was absolutely amazing and our party went off without a hitch! We planned our wedding completely from out of state and Erica was there for us the entire time. The pictures we saw didn't even do it justice! It was so beautiful! The chef came out and talked to us during our rehearsal dinner to make sure that the WEDDING night dinner went off perfectly and man did they nail it! So much food and it was all soo good! Deanna helped Erica once we actually arrived at the Roostertail and she was amazing too! All the personnel we worked with were extremely professional, knew what they were doing and did it well.
