Party of 3 Friday night with reservations. Seated immediately drinks and apps, 2 orders of Shortribs and one order of Shrimp and Grits- Barely a spec of food left anywhere, all meals were fantastic! Don't sleep on this place get in here and try everything. This was my first time straying from the Mahi because that is such a great dish, now I want to try everything on the Menu! Been coming here since they first opened before the storm hit. The new remodel looks great! The soup has ALWAYS been good as has everything I've tried. Short ribs dishes are on-point. Wings, burger, buffalo shrimp are very good. I've tried several entree's too and they've all been really tasty! A hidden gem for sure! read more

We were looking for a tasty place to have lunch and yelp never steers me wrong! Root + Clay came up with high reviews so we decided to see if it lived up to the reviews - It did!! This restaurant is inside a racquetball club but it is open to the public. We were greeted right away and told to take a seat. They do have outdoor seating on a nice patio but it was a hot day so we opted to sit inside in the cool a/c. They have a nice variety of sandwiches and entrees as well as a full bar. They were very attentive to my shellfish allergy (by the way they do shrimp and the French Fries in same oil so if you have allergy no fries ) but they substituted for me with a salad. I chose the Greek wrap which was made to order and tasted so fresh! The dressing was perfectly proportioned and it was delicious. Hubby had the Italian wrap and fries. Said they were both delicious. The dessert of the day was peanut butter pie and it was the best I've ever had. This homemade dessert brought all of the bells and whistles. I'm new to Tampa and met a friend who was visiting family so neither of us knew where to go. This place was delightful. We met at 3pm on a Saturday and had the outdoor patio to ourselves. We sat under the sun sails and they had separate section shaded by trees with heaters and possibly some couches and tables. Food was tasty with perfectly attentive service. I highly recommend R+C. We were in town for spring break and found this place on yelp. It's connected to the tennis center. We sat outside and loved the casual atmosphere with tennis in the background. We had their short ribs and chorizo hamburger. This place doesn't look like it would kick out tasty food the way they do. The restaurant is nestled inside a racquet club basically. Super plain diner vibe inside the restaurant but don't let that fool you. The service is very good and the food is great and affordable. We'll definitely be back. Love the food variation offered, good service, and great outdoor ambiance. Something to note, this place is in the middle of a tennis club so u may get a bit of imposter syndrome if you just come to eat, but the food is good and hearing the birds sing while you eat in the shade is worth it. read more

It's definitely good for a racquet ball club restaurant but 5 stars good? No. Not in my opinion. The food was tasty but we would as a family rate it a c+ or b- . The wings were fatty, oily and not crispy enough which made the sauce and ranch dressing swimming in oil. Not asthetically pleasing. Burger was good however our request for med well, came med rare. We didn't send back as everything was getting cold and we wanted to eat together . The buffalo cauliflower was okay but missing the crisp factor as were the wings. The salmon my husband ordered was to us not cooked thoroughly which made it too " mushy" . I am being picky because I don't think even with these things being fixed, it still wouldnt be 5 stars. 4 at best. read more

I met up with friends for dinner here recently and enjoyed my visit greatly. I started with a well prepared Rye Manhattan. I craved a cheeseburger with fries, but was told their cheeseburgers are thick, not smashed, as is my preference. I ordered one anyway and asked the server to see if the chef could smash it a bit for me. It arrived nicely smashed with fresh, ripe tomato, lettuce and still-hot fries. Dang! - this place keeps shocking me with amazing dish after dish! We love all the specials they come up with! Last night was Triple Tail Fish and it was amazing! After trying just about everything on the menu my only suggestion would be to come up with a sauce for the Mahi-Mahi special they sometimes have. You'd never know it's there as no sign on street but don't miss having lunch or dinner at the "Root & Clay" located in the Racket Club at 170 47th Avenue in St. petersburg. We stopped by before going to St. petersburg Opera and were not disappointed. They have a selection of wraps, sandwiches, salads and a few entrees plus there is a full bar. The wraps we ordered were fully loaded with chicken, avocado, fresh lettuce and a special home made sauce. Delicious and so large had to bring half home. The decor is tennis clubhouse and there is outdoor seating when weather not too hot. Do yourself a favor and try "Root & Clay" because it won't disappoint. read more
