i always see this place when i go to red palace next door, but i haven't tried it until today! it looks very unassuming from outside, but this cafe is great! they have a cute selection of hats by the entrance that i might just have to go back for since spring/summer is right around the corner. they have some food items available such as waffles, sandwiches, and banana pudding (that my friend said is AMAZING!) but we came pretty late so they didn't have everything available. we ended up just getting drinks, and i got the strawberry matcha latte with strawberry foam. it definitely made my top 10! i will definitely come back to try more drinks and some of the snacks they have :) read more

Roots Cafe is one of my preferred coffee shops in the area. Not only do they offer all types of drinks that other places do not offer but they carry their yummy banana pudding that I love. Roots has lots of options of lattes. Besides just a normal basic latte you can get a lavender or turmeric option. If you have not tried their hazelnut latte then you must. Although they do not carry organic milk they have options for sweeteners, like monk fruit, which most places do not. They also have matcha, smoothies, other coffees and teas. Their food is also good. They have waffles, sandwiches, toast, and of course my favorite, their banana pudding. It's not too sweet and is always made fresh tasting. The staff is always nice and the pricing is just right. The inside is small but it is cute and there are a few tables and places to hang out. I want to come back and try their other drinks. read more

Walked in on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty empty. Ordered an ice coffee and an iced vanilla latte but was disappointed because they were out of avocado toast. They told us it was a really busy morning and usually they don't run out. The ice coffee itself looked exactly like the iced vanilla latte and tasted very milky. I couldn't really taste the coffee whether it was more on the acidic side or not but still delicious. The latte didn't taste acidic and was also delicious. The espresso shots were on the bottom so don't forget to stir if you order one The vibe is very relaxed and welcoming. I loved having our girls' brunch here meanwhile listening to a business meeting at one small table behind us and a book club of about six women at joined tables to my left. If you dine-in, they will call your name out and bring your food order to your table. The tables are minimal and small. I would not come here with a large group, however, I saw several patrons come in to pick up their online orders. My family and I haves enjoyed and loved this cafe since we discovered it in 20201 when we moved to Cerritos. The David is amazing, the banana pudding is wonderful, and their avocado toast and Cuban are great. We are beyond disappointed and frustrated that the City of Cerritos moved to close this shopping area and we are losing Roots. We are hoping Roots will find a new home but also hope that maybe the Roots community can help them do so with funds raising, support, etc. It's sad to lose this woman-owned small business. read more

I love Roots for their iced milk tea and matcha strawberry latte but I hate to say it but their afternoon crew makes better drinks than the morning crew. I am not sure what it is but my tea to milk ratio was a bit off. When I had ordered my milk tea in the afternoon it tasted more tea-ish than milky. After I was in love with the drink I bragged about it to my friend and I was disappointed when I came with her in the morning, it was not as great as I remembered. So I went to Roots again and the afternoon crew just makes better milk tea than the morning crew. Amazing!!:D I got the David iced coffee! Delicious! It was sweet, but not too sweet and had that refreshing coffee flavor. Definitely would get it again. The fruity pebbles is way too sweet. It tasted like artificial strawberry syrup and the coffee tasted sour which didn't help balance out the flavor. I appreciate they sell regular and large sizes, however their coffee beans and syrups could use improvement. read more

I need to come here to study or work. This place is soooo cute. I've heard their waffles are good but I've yet to try them. I saw they have banana pudding for sale which I also want to try. I came in for a strawberry banana smoothie which wasn't bad. It was on the sweeter side so I wonder if they used syrup RO strawberry preserves which is a no for me. Came here yesterday with my girlfriend and mom and were greeted by the friendliest of people. Not exactly sure who they were, but unfortunately, the plaza was hit with some burglaries that morning and they were trying to repair their door. Working at a business that had suffered the same thing, I knew exactly what they were going through and trying to take care of it right as they opened (10am), they still made us feel very welcomed. We went to try this place for breakfast for the first time and definitely weren't disappointed. We got a Cuban Sandwich, Churro Waffle, and Strawberry Cheesecake Waffle to eat and they were good. The real winners were the drinks we got though! Those were delicious and will be the reason why we'd come back!! They were refreshing, flavorful, and not over the top in sweetness. I recently went to roots and had a bagel and coffee and found it to be awesome! The coffee was among the best drip coffee I've had from a place like this. It was flavorful and was not burnt as drip coffee often is. It was affordable too. The bagel was ok, but the reason it wasn't 5 stars. If you're charging a dollar for cream cheese, I think it should be spread on the bagel or at least in a little tub- I got a squeeze pouch of it like you get at a cafeteria. The bagel was only partially toasted and ended up being chewey. A little more finesse here and this would be an easy 5 stars. The space is cute and clean. The stuff still wear masks which I appreciate. It was small and perhaps not ideal for a big study session but great to meet a friend or two for coffee. read more

Banana Pudding is amazing. Nice mixed of sweet and bitter bananas. Love the Frozen Chocolate Drink too. Even though they use Ghirardelli chocolate, using almond milk gives it a nice nutty aftertaste. They should really fix the front door and bathroom door. It's like heavy when trying to enter both doors and closes on you super fast. Nice, small, and hidden spot with nice air flow. The waffles were DELICIOUS! We now found a new favorite waffle restaurant. Portion sizes were the right amount to feel full, but not overstuffed. We ordered the Churro Waffle, Candied Bacon & Egg Waffle, Cuban Sandwich and Mocha Coffee. I ate the Candied Bacon Waffle. They do not skimp on the bacon! I was delightfully surprised by this. I was also delightfully surprised by the bill lol. For four items, the bill came out to $35. Not bad for 3 meals and a coffee. The staff was accommodating and we received excellent, friendly customer service that day. By the way, here you order and pay at the counter. It's similar to Hiccups for those that are familiar with the boba place. Seating was fast. We didn't have to wait for a table despite the small size of the restaurant and limited number of tables. Due to the smaller space, the tables were also a bit on the small side. With four people, it was a bit crowded. Perhaps it felt this way because they served the meals in to go containers so the shape made them a bit trickier to eat out of. Not sure if they thought we ordered take out because other photos show meals served on plates. This comes in handy though if there are any leftovers since you can just take your unfinished meal and go, so definitely not a deal breaker. Overall, we loved this place. My husband and I didn't intend to make Roots a part of our daily weekday routine but we love their coffee and it's so reasonably priced compared to many other cafes, it just happened. The drip and espresso coffees are delicious, I noticed that the big chains taste off and burnt to me now that I drink Roots on the regular. Their banana pudding is so good and we've tried the vegan donuts as well, thumbs up. Started coming here for some good stuff couple months ago. Located in Cerritos. This cafe is more than just coffee. They also serves breakfast, cereal milk (breakfast shakes), and more. Ever since I've checked it place, I was hooked already... but kept forgetting to write all this down.... Not joking at all. For coffee, I like to get me a mocha to keep myself awake and stay focus at work. Other than that, I tried the fruity pebbles cereal milk. I guess I can consider it breakfast. Really good stuff. Everything here was great. Service was amazing. Very welcoming. I even had a small conversation with one of the barista which I forgot what we talked about. Very nice guy though. Cute little cafe in a plaza that doesn't have much else inside. The ambiance is really chill inside so it would be a good place to study. We got a large honey oat latte and a breakfast burrito to share as a late breakfast but we ended up skipping lunch because we were pretty full still. The honey oat latte was really good and their prices are reasonable so I think I will keep coming back. The breakfast burrito took a while to come out and I noticed the other food items that other people ordered were pretty slow to come out too. I am updating my review based on the customer service I had with the owner Peter. Peter was very quick to contact me about my poor experience and correct the mistakes. Apparently, this was the first weekend he and his wife were away from the shop on vacation, so my experience may be an outlier. He's going to refund me for the bacon egg waffle today. Overall, his eagerness to understand the situation and fix it is doing good business, and I appreciate that. I can't give 4 or 5 stars yet because I haven't tried their food as it should be, but I will consider giving it another shot since Peter has been so earnest. read more
