Its a nice walk, and you may cross the River Cam, enjoy the park an be in the middle of the town. On your way you can have some breakfast in a pub, wich opens at 8 oclock. Traditional English breakfast (2,99 Pounds) or Sandwiches for less. The Kirkwood House ist not stylish at all. The Rooms are small, but en suite and very clean. The prices are appropiate. So three stars are appropiate too. I did not regret my choice of the Kirkwood House.

If you are coming from the Cambridge city centre, you can do a u-turn by coming off at Cambridge services and crossing the A14 there. Also, please note that the hotel itself is not visible from the road until it's too late to turn off, so watch out for the hand car wash or Little Chef instead. The hotel is situated just behind those two. There is ample car parking in front of the building. The Travelodge chain itself operates like the budget airlines, the earlier you book the cheaper it's likely to be, so book extraearly for nights when there's an event in town. It offers great value but basic accommodation. Extras such as an early check in or late check out have to be paid for separately and breakfast is not included in the price (there is a Little Chef just across the car park). The ensuite rooms are all clean and tidy, but offer no luxuries such as a minibar - you can ask for an iron and hairdryer at reception for which they do not charge extra. Unfortunately the mattresses in the beds are very soft, which is not good if you suffer from a bad back. Due to the traffic noise I would ask for a room to the back.

While not especially excited about the prospect I expected my stay in the Holiday Inn Express to be OK, I've used them many times before and they are generally good basic and clean places to stay. I must say the staff here were especially friendly and imparted lots of local knowledge which made it easier for me to get around. I did encounter a problem with a 'lady' playing music full blast at 6am, but a quick call to reception had that sorted out within minutes. The guy on the desk took the trouble to come and listen and then dealt with it. Would recommend this place for business stays and as a base for exploring. Also the Harvester next door has really friendly staff - food is good but fairly limited, however free salad bar was a bonus.

This was freezing, no matter what time of day I tried and I was here for three nights. They can say all they want about "sustainability" but this is about being cheap. And I can run the shower. I was in Scotland with a shower just like it and the Scots gave me hot water. And they promised me 5 pounds if I didn't get my room cleaned. They didn't clean and they never gave me my voucher. But the big thing is the water. I would have paid more to stay some where else for a decent shower.

Yes Ibis is known to be a pretty small and very tight hotel. There also is no front desk, they have places for you to sit at but you aren't allowed to eat any food that is bought outside! While I was there I saw a group of 20 people trying to use the level one facility where breakfast is served, but they had bought 8 large pizzas. Overall this place is suppose to be budget friendly which you can see a lot of different types of people here. Location wise it's pretty convenient and close to the train station. But I have honestly never been in a room this tiny before. If you paid for breakfast it's pretty much the same thing daily which is a traditional English breakfast filled with eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms, toast, fruit salad, sausages, and some cheese. But I would say skip it and just go outside to a coffee shop. It's not worth the amount that you have to pay.

The price was less expensive than the Felix, but there were some disappointments. 1. Upon entering the reception, there is a computer. It had a sign on it that it was broken and the service technicians had been called. I stayed there a week for the family activities. At the end of the seven days, the computer still had not been repaired. I suspect it is still not repaired. 2. There was a charge of 5 pounds per hour for wi-fi; 10 pounds for 24 hours (lapsed time, not used time). Very expensive. 3. There were no phones or clocks in the rooms, so no wake-up call. I asked about wake-up calls, and the man at the desk said they could bang on the door. They did let me use their office phone to call my sister a few times. My daughter and her family were also staying in the hotel. We had to go to each other's rooms to talk. 4. The (not included) breakfast was quite expensive and was served in a dingy, basement room. 5. No elevator. A problem for those of us with big bags. On a positive note: 1. Nice people work there. Not really trained well, but tried and were very pleasant. 2. Very close to Cambridge city centre via the bus. 3. Beds very comfortable.

Chris the host is so accommodating! This is a self catering apartment and yet on arrival there is bread,cereals,milk and orange juice so that's breakfast coveted. There is also free wifi and a brochure with lots of useful information in about the city. He communicated with me via email/text from the initial booking and was very understanding when I arrived over an hour late to pick up the keys due to signalling difficulties at Peterborough. Everything in the flat is of a high standard from the towels to the bedding. It is also the comfiest bed I've slept in! The size is impressive and way better than you would ever get in a hotel suite. All I can say is this would be my number one choice on return to the city!
