Great breakfasts as you'd expect (my personal recommendation is the French Toast with cheese and tomato). Golfers who've been to Bandon Dunes, it's like staying at The Inn, but with friendly, warm personal service. *Perfectly* positioned about a three wood and a nine-iron from the pro shop at Portstewart and only a 10-minute drive to Royal Portrush. Will DEFINITELY be back here with friends on our next trip.

His son, Thomas, even took a day off work, came back from Belfast, to meet us and play golf with us! My husband and dad were thrilled! The accommodations at the Strand House are amazing. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The breakfasts are delicious and healthy. Ernestine's scones -- Oh. My. Goodness. So heavenly. The house is just far enough from the bustle of the town, and about 30 minutes from Giants Causeway and the Rope Bridge. You would be hard pressed to find better accommodations for the value. The people running the place are the nicest host you could imagine. The place is magnificent with a breathtaking scenery ! It's not far away from the Giant's Causeway, a mythical place and the neighbourhood is a great place for someone who loves nature and peaceful walks. It's not very far either from Donegal, thanks to a boat which will carry your car and yourself from one place (i.e. Northern ireland) to the other (Eire). We're looking forward to come back (but not too often otherwise we would end in staying there and not returning home (France it is).

The Beech Hill Country House Hotel has a rich history. It was constructed in 1739 and originally…read moreserved as the home of Thomas Skipton and his descendants. It was transformed into a 20-room hotel in 1991 by Patsy O'Kane and her brother, Seamus Donnelly. Ten more rooms were added in 2000. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The room we stayed in contained a king bed that seemed 50 percent wider than a standard king. Staff members were friendly and the hotel Ardmore restaurant served excellent food in a fine dining atmosphere. The hotel is located on a quiet road off a major highway on the east side of Derry and contains several acres of trees and walking paths. I highly recommend it.

I had booked Beech Hill Country House which is a stunning Georgian house, with 30 bedrooms and suites, based at Ardmore Road. I had booked a classic double room for my mum and a superior room (as it included both a king size as well as a single bed) for my sister and I, but on arrival were delighted to receive two superior rooms beside each other with adjoining door! A lovely touch. The rooms were huge, warm and comfortable and we were looking forward to relaxing in them later that evening. (I later found out that each room in the hotel looks different as they have all been individually restored, so different décor, paints, fabrics etc) But before we relaxed in our rooms, it was down to the bar for a few drinks and dinner! It was a cold evening so we parked up right in front of the fire- bliss! In fact, we didn't leave and decided to have our dinner right there. The Beech Hill is famed for its food and a number of people remarked to me that I would enjoy it when I mentioned I was staying there. The next morning we went down for breakfast and were impressed with both the cooked and continental selection- with all three of us having a bit of both! After breakfast, we walked round and explored the grounds. The hotel has different trials, with 32 acres of woodland and gardens. During our walk I was so impressed to learn about the history of the site. In June 1941, the United States constructed a naval base on the Foyle, named 'Base One Europe'. It remained the US Navy's main centre of operations in Europe until June 1944. The Beech Hill Country House Hotel provided the location for one the main accommodation camps and we couldn't believe a hut was still in place. Fascinating! I can't decide whether the best thing about Abbey B&B was the amazingly spacious room, the…read moretremendous personal orientation to Derry/Londonderry that we were given by owner Seamus Kennedy, or the incredible convenience of the location in the Bogside. Abbey advertises itself as the only B&B in the Bogside. That's not quite true, since another small B&B has opened up the street, but it's still a significant distinction for a tourist. Abbey B&B offers completely up-to-date accommodations (and big rooms) just a few steps from the Bogside Artists' murals and the sites of Bloody Sunday in 1972, and only a little bit farther from the old city walls. Those are the main attractions for a visitor to this city, and Seamus was a great source of advice on where to visit, where to eat, where to drink, and where to hear music in the evening. My only complaint is that the WiFi in the Abbey, which worked fine on Windows machines (including the public computer set up on the first floor), refused to communicate with a Linux laptop.

The hostel was clean though a bit cramped -- but the prices are excellent and everything worth seeing in Derry is within walking distance. We checked in without much fuss, got our keys, a tour of the hostel, and a wonderful conversation with the operator which included advice for dining, drinking, music, and walking tours. We even got a map. In one of the hostel buildings (they own two rowhouses), the basement is dominated by a kitchen area that is very well appointed. There are laundry machines, but they bear signs requesting that guests contact reception before use -- so I don't know if there's a charge. I would stay here again, on my own, with a partner, or even with a young travel group.

I only spent one night here, but I absolutely loved it…read more I was doing a bit of traveling by myself for the first time and this hostel really made me feel at home. The owner is a very, very nice man and explained everything to me as soon as I arrived. It was a slow week and I had a room of six completely to myself. Now that I think of it, there were only a total of three people staying in the whole hostel that night. The bathrooms were very nice and the bathtub on my floor was one of those fancy old ones with feet. I didn't feel like going out during my night in Derry because I felt kind of nervous going out on a Saturday by myself in a different country. The living room area had over three hundred movies saved to a hard drive so I just sat and watched one. The owner (whose name escapes me, it's been a while) came in and watched it with me! He was a really lovely man. I woke up early the next morning to the smell of freshly baked bread. It really made me feel at home, even though we don't exactly bake bread at home. And luckily for me, I could eat a ton of bread as the only other guests had already left. When I went to pay for the hostel during check out, the total came to £10 even though I was told it was going to be £13. Awesome!

A healthy fruit/granola table, home made breads and even gluten free options. Shan, the owner, is friendly, offers great advice on local food and tourist attractions and will help you get your laundry sorted. The only issue is that it's too far to walk to Donegal town and the parking at night in town can be right. Taxi cost 7 euro each way
