If you are a Libby "born and bred local" this is probably great Mexican food...unless you have traveled around and experienced Mexican food that has not been "dumbed down" in terms of spices. This Mexican food is very plain and has little to no spices or the aromas that come from a wide variety of spices used in other authentic and "traditional" Mexican foods. I believe the owners have intentionally made the recipes plain and with little spices to cater to Libby-ites and this is a smart marketing move to be successful in Libby. A little over a decade ago Libby had a Mexican restaurant that was literally 5 Star authentic food ( seriously, I have travelled all over the U.S. and Mexico and experienced some of the best Mexican food available and it was some of the best) with no-holds-barred spicing and it barely squeaked by until it went out of business; Libby likes PLAIN and near TASTELESS food. That being said, the "plain" food at Rosita's is of decent quality for those who like "plain" in spite of your palate's desperate search to find a punch of flavor in it. Unfortunately, we will rarely go back (only in a pinch) because the PRICES charged are OUTRAGEOUS for what is essentially a fast food restaurant....example, $18 for 3 tiny tacos and maybe a 1/4 cup each of rice and beans. Frankly, and sad to say, Taco Bell is a better value and at least has FLAVOR. For those (and Rosita's) that will stand on "traditional", well, you can also get a lot of "traditional" style foods of every cultural style imaginable that is just plain and tasteless, so "traditional" really means nothing at all....flavor is the king. read more

Had a call in order thinking they closed at 8, they closed at 7 and we thought we had not only missed the chance to get our order, but had also caused a lack of $ for service and the food itself to the business, but they had waited and called my husband to let him know!! I was really hoping we would like this. it's a cute place and very clean. The service was alright. Nothing we had was all that great. Pretty bland food. The horchata was really good. I got a 2 handed burrito. Asked for guacamole and they put mole sauce instead. My son's cheese enchiladas didn't have much sauce on it. Might be one of the lower end Mexican restaurants I've ever been to. The reviews on here seem misleading. We ordered street tacos and it was advertised to come with cilantro and onion and it came out with lettuce and largely chopped tomato. The veggie two handed burrito included only tomato and lettuce as the "veggie" which I guess I might have misunderstood but I've never had veggies advertised as that before. It also barely had any beans and was mostly rice. The red sauce for the burrito almost tasted like ketchup, was very very sweet and when I asked for salsa it was salsa that came in a jar that also was on the sweeter end. We ordered chile relleno and all the seeds were left in the pepper which made it hard to eat. The sauce for that was also sweet. We ordered a steak and shrimp burrito and that was actually enjoyed! There was a lot of good components but unfortunately does not seem to be very authentic and the quality is not necessarily there. I was thoroughly impressed by this restaurant and I must say I walked in as a serious skeptic. Being from California and a bonafied Mexican food snob, I was unsure of if dining here would be a smart move. Boy was I wrong. I purposely ordered my enchiladas with one red sauce and one green to try them out and they were both good. But the true test for me usually comes with the rice and beans. Listen. Both were seasoned well and reminiscent of authentic dishes I have had in souther California. I was so pleasantly surprised, I've told everyone I can about this hidden gem in the middle of Montana! Carne asada burritos are a joke. $10 and maybe have 2 tablespoons of meat in them. They fatten the burritos up with a ton of lettuce and a very small amount of tomato and onion. Small local place which is very popular. Warm inside.. not enough cool air. Menu is standard with some dishes more flavorful than others. Carnitas was good, beans were bland. I ordered the taco plate which was boring in flavor and I had to add stuff to it to eat it (lime, sour creme, salsa) We arrived at 11:45 & they had NO CHILI VERDE because they ran out last night. Considering how popular the dish is, the cook should have arrived early to get it cooked off for the lunch and dinner crowd. They offer a spicy salsa which had good flavor and a hint of heat. Average food. First time in Libby and was in the mood for Mexican food. I had the chicken enchilada plate and my husband had the carnitas plate. Our main complaint on both meals was too much salt. The chicken was a little dry, heavy on the cumin, and I wish there was more sauce. It helped by adding salsa and guacamole. It's sad that we cook better at home than most restaurants. I wish I could give a better review but we were sadly disappointed. 1- if you go here when it's cold out dress warm, because it was cold in this place. My husband and my dad both wore their hats, jackets and gloves the whole time. 2- our waiter, while very pleasant, didn't check back with us once he took our order. Someone else brought our order over, but no one ever came back to see if the food was okay, needed drink refills, etc. My burrito was fair, my dad's enchiladas had a sweet sauce on them which was not that good. I had coffee and when I asked a guy if I could get a refill he didn't even know where to get coffee. My husband was so cold he didn't feel like eating, he just wanted to leave. It's all about the meat. Any Mexican restaurant can dice tomatoes and shred lettuce. I ordered the Caritas Plate (house specialty) and the pork was absolutely delicious! Seasoned to perfection, cooked just right. I didn't thing the house spicy salsa was very spicy, but my wife thought the regular salsa was too spicy. I would have given 5 stars for the food and service and decor, but I was put off by there being no fountain drinks (soft drinks in cans only) and no unlimited refills on things like tortilla chips and iced tea. read more

Came to Libby to visit some friends and ran across this little spot. I'm addicted to Mexican food and could not wait to try this place. The homemade chips and salsa were soooooo addicting. We had to come back the next day to get more. You have to try the carnitas and chile verde plates if you're hungry. It was full of flavor and really filled me up. Also, I loved the al pastor tacos. Me and my family came here for lunch on a Saturday, I have grown up here and always had great experiences but this time was the worst. Almost have of my quesadilla was just tortilla. We asked for beans on the side and said that was great but then forgot about so we asked and said they couldn't do that, but they did it for my Mom sitting at the same table just not for us. My sisters enchiladas were dry and and had maybe 5 strands of cheese on it. When asked to make it better she told me that I would have to wait 30 minutes till her manager is done from work. My sister told her I was leaving a review and said well I offered to get my manager right away even though my whole family heard her tell me it would be 30 minutes. read more

We visit the Libby area a couple of times a year and always look forward to eating at Rosita's. Unfortunately this time the food was poor, the service was less than friendly and the mask rules didn't apply to everyone. We chose to eat in the restaurant and noticed the sign saying "masks required". That wasn't a problem, so we wore them in and quickly found our table. Once we were seated we took out masks off in hopes that chips would quickly show up. Unfortunately we were immediately chastised by staff that we couldn't remove our masks until we had chips. Ok.... bring us some chips then! But, it wasn't that easy. We had to IMMEDIATELY order something in order to get our chips. Mind you, the chips were already dished up and waiting for us on the counter. Nonetheless, the staff member recommended we buy an appetizer of guacamole so that we could immediately get the chips. Seemed like a scam, but we had no way around it. Finally, we ordered dinner which came very quickly. However, it lacked flavor. The rice was some form of long grain jasmine rice. All in all, the food was terrible. Oh, back to the masks. Tell me, why are customers required to wear masks but ALL of the kitchen staff were not wearing masks? Makes no sense. Rosita's- we aren't sure if you have a new owner or what, but the place is not the same. We will NOT be back, nor would we recommend that anyone else go there. Great food. I had not been to Rosita's for some time. When we decided to return, I was disappointed they had a "chip bar" the waitress did not explain anything about the chip bar. She dropped off our water and said "the chip bar is over there" we had no idea of the change nor how the "chip bar" worked. I am uncomfortable with the idea of several strangers throughout the day touching food I am supposed to eat. The restaurant is always very cold sometimes to the point it makes it difficult to eat. I do not enjoy shivering through my meal. With that being said, I really enjoy the actual food. I love the mini Chicken Tacos and the massive burritos are so tasty. read more

Rosita's is a very busy place, even for a Tuesday evening the week before Memorial Day. Mindy, one of the owner's, was our server and she was very spunky and quit passionate about the food her husband, the cook & other owner, was preparing. Bottom line, you can get any dish on their menu with whatever meat you want in any combo you want. The chips were warm and the salsa was fresh homemade, not real hot but sweet; a nice twist. I had the Carnitas plate, which was a lot of food. My husband had 2 street tacos, 1 chicken and 1 Carnita, with a side of rice. The food arrived quickly and everything was fabulous. My husband had to help me clean my plate, which he didn't mind because the Carnitas were outstanding. Yes, they don't take Credit Cards, either check or cash, which helps keep their prices down. And yes, they don't sever beer or wine, but the fast friendly services and great food helps you realize you don't always need a drink with dinner. If you are anywhere near Libby, you have to stop in for some awesome Mexican food. You won't regret it. read more
