I attended the Ross Valley Charter (RVC) and it's meetings. The school itself is located in a middle school with older kids. The Charter told me that it would work with the district to make accommodations but instead sued the school district to take space. This alone has caused me to rethink what is important for me. it's important that the school serve the community which makes a community with it's current neighbors thrive. I also don't like that the Charter told me that it was financially viable and it turns out that they are Recruiting from out of district to make ends meet. I found additional information on Facebook by joining "Only In Fairfax" community page. Or by searching a petition on the Ross Valley Charter on moveon.org I don't like that I've been lied to by the Charter Leadership and I do not recommend this school because this leadership is not honest. I will be Surprised if they're still in business in the near future. read more

My daughter just started there but so far it's been a really positive experience. Everyone has been very welcoming. We had concern transferring to public school as she has been in private school (Marin Waldorf) for the past 3 years but starting day 1 those concerns have been eased. We have a 4th grader and a 2nd grader at Ross Valley Charter School. They enjoy going to school every day which is a shift from their district school. Our 4th grader is a bit shy and has always avoided public speaking or acting. In the nurturing and open atmosphere of RVC she has now performed in multiple plays and musical shows. Our son has found a groove with the STEAM and engineering oriented after school programs. read more

Ross Valley Charter School fosters a vibrant, joyful and inquisitive learning community! The teachers love working together, the parent community is motivated and involved, and the kids are engaged and collaborative. Their curiosity leads the way! Mixed age classrooms allow for advanced learners and provide leadership opportunities. Our 2nd grader's favorite parts of the day are quite reading and maker time. Love, Love, Love RVC!! My daughter is thriving, happy and engaged. She comes home every day bouncing and excited about all she is learning. The teachers are experts and have a tried and true curriculum that is experienced based. The kids really engage fully with the subjects. They do art, plays, write, ask questions and support each other in finding solutions. We could not be happier with her level of education. It has unfortunately been a fight to survive and open this school. And that is the only negative. I hope we can peacefully co-exist in the community. This is my son's second year at RVC, and he absolutely loves it. We do a 25 minute drive each way to this school and it is worth it. The teachers, staff and the school director are part of an excellent team that is leading this school in an inclusive and progressive direction. The multi age program is a huge advantage where the older kids really help and model for the younger ones. The buddy system across classes helps my son bond with kids older than him as well. I will be applying for my younger son to go to this school too. read more

This is our 5th year at RVC and it's been amazing to see the school grow and flourish. We have two kids at the school, a 4th grader and a 1st grader. Our 4th grader has really leaned into the creative outlets that go hand in hand with their inquiry based approach. It's been amazing to bear witness to how she's been able to open herself up creatively due to their emphasis on social emotional development and their whole-child approach. Our 1st grader has been in the same classroom since TK. I can't say enough about how that consistency has contributed to his sense of security and self esteem. His teacher has gone above and beyond to build a really strong classroom community. I highly recommend checking out the RVC program! ALL the teachers are amazing. read more

We fell in love with the philosophy of RVC and the teachers. The teachers are passionate and brilliant. They love their job, the students and the school. It is palpable. The Director is approachable, attentive, professional and a visionary. This school is such a breath of fresh air. Our teacher really understands and knows my child and in turn my daughter is blossoming. The community is so amazing. I am getting to know every child in my daughter's class and many of the parents. My daughter loves her days here and she is excited to learn. I see this experiential learning process is having a big impact on how she absorbs information. My daughter loves going to school. Her creativity, personal sense of ability, her critical thinking capability, as well as her general language and math knowledge have all flourished at RVC. In addition, social interactions are extremely important for school children, and RVC has shown true and continual interest in making sure that our kids learn not only academic skills, but emotional and interpersonal ones as well. read more

This school is amazing! My son has flourished in Reading& writing and his enthusiasm to learn has gone through the roof! He comes home singing classic songs that I don't even know the words to! Our older son began public school in the "Multi-Age Program" (MAP) at Manor School, a program with a twenty year track record of support and success. He flourished. After two great years, the program was cancelled by the school district. We tried to work with the options we were provided, but our son went from joyous about school to miserable. We had a tough year of uncertainty and anguish before RVC opened. Now, with the ENTIRE teaching staff of MAP (these are public school teachers who unanimously gave up that job security for this program) and an amazingly dedicated and involved administration, both our older and younger sons are getting the educational experience we want for them - open to inquiry, focused on fostering their creativity and love of learning, building strong emotional intelligence and compassion. Politics aside, educational quality is really about the teachers - you can certainly find great teachers elsewhere (including the district) but you won't do better than RVC! read more

We were looking for an elementary school for our TK kid, but we needed something a little unusual. Our kid is very distinctly a kinesthetic learner, he learns with his hands and his body. We knew that if we put him into a formal desk based learning environment he would quickly develop an aversion to school. We wanted somewhere that would foster his innate curiosity and sweet playful personality, somewhere that would see him as a valuable and unique individual and foster his uniqueness rather than compelling him to conform. We decided to put him at the Ross Valley Charter school in Fairfax. Its a little further for us to drive in the mornings, but he is flourishing there. It has been almost two months since he started, and we have seen him engage and develop in wonderful new ways. We love the teachers, and we love that they let the parents participate in the classrooms and the running of the school. I warmly recommend them. read more

Our family just moved back to the US after 20 years abroad - I was quietly very concerned about how my boys would fare in the public school system. They are dangerously smart "full-throttle" boys that quickly disengage when bored (I was the same - daydreaming throughout my elementary school because it was not challenging enough/multisensory enough to "hold me")... Plus we don't fit the mold, as kids from a biracial marriage that have already lived on 3 continents and grew up barefoot on jungle beaches! When I went to my first RVC info night, I immediately knew that I had found the right fit. RVC is like a small, diverse, progressive, family that pulls people warmly into its fold in an unconditional way. Teachers are phenomenal, teaching style & content are the antithesis of boring, parent community is unified and engaged, and kids are treated like actual humans that may have something to say! We can't recommend them highly enough. read more

Since starting school here my daughter is a completely different person. She is happy. We were looking for a school that would help her with her sensory issues. She now is excited when I pick her up. The teachers are extremely intuned to our needs. I have never been to a school where we do things like camping, moonwalks and learning through hikes. they help find each child's inner spirit without being told how to learn. My daughter is blossoming more everyday. It saddens me that some people make bullying seem like a good thing to show our children and I hope the community can come together. I have been in districts as a child that have been extremely horrible and tramatizing. I only wish that I had been able to go to a school like this, but we couldn't as I was in poor and low-income schools where metal detectors were a common thing! Love is the only way why not give it a chance? read more
