While driving by Hazleton at lunch time, I went looking for the town's signature sandwich, sausage and scomorza - or skamutz, as it's pronounced around there. Years ago there was the now defunct Fadula's Tavern on Diamond Avenue that perfected that sandwich to an art form. Wow. I read good reviews about Rostas on 15th Street and decided to give it a try. I'm sometimes amazed when visiting local neighborhood establishments how doting and friendly some are to their "regulars", while ignoring to the point of rudeness folks they don't already know. Let's call them "future regulars". Such was my experience at Rostas. So far as the sandwich goes, it was prepared differently than the one I remember at Fadula's. Next time I'll try someplace else for the sandwich and hope for a warmer reception. read more
