Rostas' is an oldie and a goodie! Service, food, prices, beverage choices, and decor are ideal for a casual evening with friend/s or family. Emoyees are cheerful and make terrific recommendations. Loved the Maryland crab soup, stocked full of delicious vegetables and scrumptious crab in a tomato base. The soup had the perfect amount of seasoning. We also enjoyed birch beer on tap, so refreshing. To our delight, a regular menu item was the mozzarella and tomato salad, enhanced with Italian seasonings, salad favorites including red peppers and greens, olives. What is not to like about this place. Tucked on a back street of Hazleton. Ordered a 8 cut with meatball, a mini salad, and cheese fries with gravy on the side. Not fresh cut fries, but these were the good frozen type and the were good. Salad was excellent, dressing is very good. Pizza with meatballs and the Scamutz cheese. Wow.... I was happy we had leftover pizza for lunch the next day. 3 of us to eat for under $40.... Win Will be back for sure!!! read more

We use yelp to find better than average food when we are traveling. I truly have no idea why this place has such high reviews. It is run down and charmless. The knotty pine everywhere from 1970 hasn't changed (but it is not hip and retro). The food is totally standard, nothing unusual. Zero gluten free options, no gf bread etc and much of the menu is breaded and fried. All the salads only use iceberg lettuce. Not the end of the world, but not a selling point. I got the southwest salad. What do you think of with that name, in addition to chicken, cheese and lettuce? Black beans? Peppers? Jalapenos? Tortilla strips? All of them MIA from this salad. Instead, there was bacon. A TON of bacon. Way more bacon than chicken. Salad dressing tasted like it got its spiciness from horseradish. So, it wasn't BAD, but it wasn't GOOD. This experience doesn't deserve a star kids chicken tenders smelled like fish. Made me constantly gag, like someone cooked fish in a microwave. Employee stated they use the same oil for everything. Fries were overcooked hard and not tasty. I love turkey club sandwiches it was less than mediocre.Wife got chicken cheese steak was boiled chicken with watered down hot sauce. Waitress talked to other associate away from us, did not check on us at the table. I had to get up to get my drink and ask her to get my sons as they were empty. That being said I am not going back this place was a go to and a favorite of mine for years always good food what happened!!!Didn't get pizza this time it was good in the past with the scamutz. Family has been going there for as long as I can remember and since it changed owners it has been absolutely awful. Their pizza is fine enough but oh god everything else. Disgusting. Would not even feed to my dogs. The steak. Horrendous, vinegary, and tough. The ribs. Absolutely disgusting and could barely ply apart with both of my hands. Probably could bounce them like a bouncy ball. French fries absolutely microwaved not a doubt in my mind. Green beans from a can. Antipasta DRIPPING in oil. Worst meal I have had in years. While the food is pretty good, it is not worth the wait. Service is marginal. Well over 1.5 hours once we finally got to place our order. Food came out sporadically, or not at all. If you go out to dinner with someone don't expect your food at the same time. The Sandwich ordered came out wrong, but my consolation was they left the fries for me to enjoy while I waited for the corrected version. They do leave the incorrect meal, I guess so they don't have to offer a discount or take it off the bill. Next time, which won't be for a while, I'll just cancel my order and go else where. At first glance, Rosta's appears to be an establishment that has not done any renovations for the last 20 years. I found the service to be marginal. The food was eh... and by "eh" it is nothing to rave about. I found the sauce on the pizza to be runny and the flavor to be palatable, but not memorable. The chili cheese fries were alright. The prices seem a touch high for the quality of food and service. Bottom line: If I had a friend who came from out of town and was looking for a place to have lunch or dinner in town, I would not send them to Rosta's. read more

Great family atmosphere and the food is always fresh and portions are good. The new patio looks great! Its relaxing to sit out and have a lager while enjoying the great playlist the owner has going. During this visit I got gravy cheese fries and a mozzarella salad. My daughter got pizza and my husband got a panini. I will be coming back anytime I'm in the area. Like a trip back in time, the towny pub feel is comfortable and cozy if that's your thing. I ordered and antipasto salad and manicotti special, the salad was fresh, cold and crisp served with a variety of cured meats, scamutz cheese, lightly pickled onions and savory banana peppers tossed in the delicious house made vinaigrette. If you're ever in Hazelton, PA you have to try the sausage and scamutz hot sandwich. My coworkers and I stopped in there for lunch during a snow storm. Because of the snow storm business was slow, the cook ended up as our waiter and bartender. Great family owned place. I've been going here since I was a little kid. The bar style "double scamutz" pizza is amazing. (Scamutz, or scamorzza is a soft mozzarella-esque cheese, but saltier and awesome). Beer selection somewhat limited, but not for Hazleton. The salads are awesome. The kids love the chicken fingers. Sandwiches are great. Prices are very reasonable. A Hazleton institution. Go to Rostas' if you're in town. read more

Genuine, PA barroom/pizza joint about a mile or so from Penn State and the interstate. I did not care for the pizza as it was the thick, bready style Greek crust we have in Boston at the "House of Pizza" joints. It was "all you can eat wing night" though so I was able to cope. Nice deep fried wings with sauce on the side. Good, friendly service, cozy old time atmosphere and cool patrons make this a destination. I did make the error of buying the last Rostas T-shirt which hung over the bar and had to smell fryolator grease all the way home in the car. Good times baby, good times. read more

This used to be a friendly and enjoyable place to go and eat. However, under the new owners, service has really declined. As soon as we walked in, the rude waitress at the hostess station acted like it was a burden that we were there. We started to ask about a table for two but before we could even finish asking, she cut us off and told us it would be a long wait (and didn't even bother to give us an estimated time for the wait). She claimed there were several people ahead of us but the bar was practically empty so I guess those people were waiting in a special room I'm not aware of. We decided to eat at the bar where at least the bartender wasn't totally rude. After being at the bar for 10 or 15 minutes, I noticed 2 women walk in and get seated immediately. I'm assuming unless you're a "regular" at Rostas, you're not worth their time. Well, in my opinion, their food isn't worth the price and everything was WAY better under the old owners. I would not recommend Rostas to anyone I know (unless they want to be treated like they don't belong and eat so-so food). read more
