consumer caveat!! This company came out to my house because I had been gardening and opened the water faucet outside and by mistake closed the water valve next to it. When I saw I had no water inside the house I called them because I wasn't sure what had caused it to shut down. They came and he said he would run a diagnostic which may I involve removing the pipes etc. but at the first try, he realized that the faucet just needed a bit more turn to open it (I hadn't tried) and he just opened the faucet and then water was restored in the house.  I thought for sure he would understand that it was not a diagnostic he performed and would not charge the full fee, but he (and the managers) insisted that even touching the faucet was $165. A complete rip off. I wish I had checked their reviews first. They have terrible reviews and now I know why. read more

He spent under 5 minutes cutting out the unused water filter and charged my mother $100, a check she wrote out to cash. A week later we realize that there is still water leaking under the kitchen sink so I proceed to call Roto Rooter so they can please come back to finish the job. When I was contacted, I was informed that a technician would not arrive for another two hours. The technician was late for the scheduled appointment. Upon arrival, the technician did not introduce himself. He spent approximately 30 minutes resolving the stoppage issue and charged $500 for the service. The technician that came out was extremely rude. I requested a technician to come out to provide an estimate for an external water leak. From the start when I answered the door, the technician was arrogant and rude. He provided an estimate that was significantly larger than a previous estimate a received. He responded with "you shouldn't be wasting his time", stormed off, and mumbled additional things under his breath. Tells me there is something wrong with the water heater. Another Roto Rooter plumber comes out and now tells me the plumbing installation is fine that it is an electrical problem. So, I could have saved myself some TIME, MONEY AND AGGRAVATION having called an electrician instead of this inept plumber. I very possibly did not even need a new water heater. They unclogged the line surrounded our house and let us know that the problem was due to ATT fiber optic technician. Recommended us to apply for a loan with Synchrony Bank despite of we paid $569 to initiate the job. The total amount paid was $3,575.00. The pictures and videos which supposedly may show that ATT was responsible, weren't received yet. The job was done and paid on 11/16/2020. Today is 1/17/2021. I called Ronaldo, the Supervisor, asking for the pictures and videos, his answer was that I should use the pictures taken for my husband, who is 67 years old, a retiree man with no relationship with Roto-Rooter, because the evidence wasn't clear. As we paid more than $3500 for a job, we expected to receive the photos and videos taken for the plumbers, not for the owner of the house. Another thing is the statement that they couldn't find the opening to enter the "snake" and for this reason they had to open around the house. Of course, a more expensive job. Coincidentally, the opening was by the garage and they found it when almost the job were done. I sent an email to the Supervisor and he never answered. Gosh, I don't even know where to start at. That was something. The only one word - horrible! I would give this company "0" or "-1" if Yelp would allow that. A week and a half ago (on Sunday) I had cracks at a copper pipe which goes to the outside faucet. The both pipe and the faucet are outside, exposed and are at the backyard. I called the company, they promised to send a plumber. After 4h the had come. He was nice, polite and professional. He told me that he needs to break the wall to look inside (I have no idea why - the cracks are exposed and outside) and install a plug. He told that he needs to come on Wednesday to finish the job. I was okay with that. He told me that there would be 1st call discount of $75 and total call $210 + details (this copper pipe and faucet cost ~$25 at Lowe's). That was a bit more expensive than I expected, but okay, I agreed. He made a huge hole in the wall, cut the pipe, installed a plug and cleaned up everything. Fixing the wall back was on me, but looked reasonable. But what happened next was just HORRIFIC! The guy didn't come on Wednesday and also on Thursday. I called Roto-Rooters to ask them what's going on and whether they were going to fix the issue. After going through 3 different dispatchers and explaining my story 3 times I reached to a pretty rude guy who said that the previous guy got sick and promised me to send a replacement plumber. Okay, fine. The guy had come and looked at the issue. He told me that to fix the issue would cost me $540!! Meaning the price just doubled! He told that the it was unnecessary to do cut the pipe and you would need to use some new tech (showed some device) to fix that and that I in fact didn't call his company - it was a different one. They wouldn't do that job like that and now, after the damage, it is $540!!! I tried to explain him that he was sent as a replacement for the previous guy, but he just didn't listen. For ~1h he tried to convinced me that it was a different company - showing me some papers which they would leave, calling to a dispatcher (who was asleep), asking her about my job history which she didn't find. For 1h he was calling different people and they couldn't find anything. I was asking him the same question "How could you come here as a replacement for the pervious guy if him didn't work at your company? it is not logic to that." didn't take any effect - he was circling around showing me the papers, calling people, showing me my ticket without history. After that, understanding that I wouldn't agree on $540 he started changing the price (what the heck?!) 400, 360, etc. The price was jumping back and forth several time, but not to the point at which we agreed with the first guy. After one hour he started complaining that he wasted a lot of time, but company would pay him anyway. OMG, seriously?! What's about me - I also wasted a lot of time (the same amount). Summarizing: horrible, poorly organized, discounted service. Looks like there are no rates there - they will try to extort as much as possible from you up to a pain point and a little beyond (like in emergency healthcare - you don't have much of leverage on them). Sometimes you simply have to call the company that specializes in a particular problem to get it done properly. Living in a completely renovated condo for 6 months now without issue, new pipes and fittings everywhere so install isn't an issue. Taking a shower and water is bubbling in the toilets followed by back ups in both showers, hence the main drain line is backed up. Have a local plumber come over with a snake that keeps backing up, not getting anywhere etc in fact either he was incompetent or the problem was more serious than we thought. Finally had enough and called Roto Rooter. Explained problem to person on phone was told appointment would be within next two hours. Received follow up call to let me know tech was on the way and he arrived "Anthony" in just under the 2 hour window. He immediately assessed the problem indicating he had to pop both toilets since they were on a Y and if he entered through one the very powerful snake could possibly enter the junction and slam into the other. He provided an estimate which was "MUCH HIGHER" than other plumbers estimate but he couldn't do the job so taking into account he said if I can't fix it no charge and you get a 30 day guarantee off to work Anthony went. He was able to snake the line down some 75 Feet well outside the walls of my home indicating the blockage was well downstream the pitfalls of condo living. He cleared the drain recoiled his snake then sent it down again another 80 feet just to insure it was clear. He then replaced both wax seals on the toilets, replaced and caulked both toilets then used a commercial disinfectant to clean around both bathrooms where he worked etc. In short the job was nothing short of spectacular. Service professional, and from start to finish from contact to completion I couldn't not have been happier. 2 weeks later and we are still flowing perfectly. Sometimes you get what you pay for. I had an issue with my water heater and knew it was either plumbing or electrical. I opted to have a plumber come out first and choose Roto-Rooter as their website claims they don't charge to assess your problem. I made an appointment for between 10 and 2. They bumped that back to "sometime this afternoon or early evening." As evening approached I called them and they said they couldn't get anyone out until the next day between 10 and 2. So I missed a whole day of work for nothing. The next day they arrived at 1 (no priority was given to me, despite wasting my prior day). The guy checked the electric connector and said it wasn't getting any juice. He told me I should get an electrician, then charged me $245! So much for the free assessment! The irony is that I would have called someone else if I knew they were going to charge me to just look at the water heater. Shameful business practice! Wish I could give zero stars. read more

The HOA called Roto-Rooter for emergency water leak affecting 6 apartments. I'm giving two stars and not one because they answered the phone and sent someone. The Deerfield office sent Adam. Adam took the job and sent dehumidifiers the next morning but didn't have enough for all the apartments so he put what he had in the apartments with the most water. Downhill from then on. Two days later they sent a tech out with dehumidifiers for my apartment. The techs who had no knowledge of where the water was in my apartment placed the humidifiers in the same rooms that had the most water in apartments above me. So there was no humidifier in the room that needed it most in my apartment. I went to the apartment several days later and walls were still wet and you could smell the mold. I removed sections of Sheetrock which they did not do and found mold. Adam told me they don't remove Sheetrock. There was no scrubber in the apartment to clean the air so I had to wear a mask and my eyes watered. This is where it gets good. I called Adam and told him we no longer needed his service and were going with another company and he told me I couldn't because my 84 year old mother in law signed a contract. Imagine that!!! Adam got angry and nasty on the phone with me. He tried to pressure me to keep his company on the job. Honestly, picture your worst experience with a car salesman that uses pressure to sell. That's how I felt. The next day Adam called my 84 year old mother in law who lives in the apartment and tried to turn her against me and told her I was doing the wrong thing and she should keep his company on the job. He quoted me an incredibly high price but we eventually agreed to proceed because we needed the work done ASAP. He then grabbed one tool, twisted one piece and the disposal worked. A day before company arrived from out of town, my toilets started bubbling. Someone told me it was a vent problem and a big job. I called Rotor Rooter in a state of panic. I was assured they would get to me with the next hour or so and that they would fix the problem today. Sure enough they were here within less than 2 hrs. They plumber Jay, was very friendly and assured me it would be ok. As soon as he saw the water moving he knew it was not a vent problem but a main problem. He explained the price, the problem and what it would take to fix it. He had it snaked and clear in no time I would highly recommend Rotor-Rooter and commend them on having great staff members. Called to get a quote they have me a huge window gap to inspect my water heater leak. The tech came out looked briefly at it and was like "yea $1500" I asked him for a written quote he said he will send it to dispatch and left. Didnt leave a car or anything.... still haven't seen or heard anything. They had another person come behind him letting us know we had water all over the place and insisting that we get insurance involved and tear my whole house up. I called for a water heater replacement estimate and, in order to increase the costs, they sent a restoration project coordinator to my home first. Wanted to expand the job well beyond what was necessary or requested for the apparent purpose of increasing the costs and assured me that the costs would be paid by my insurance company. Our problem was that the kitchen drain was completely clogged. After unsuccessfully trying to solve this problem on our own, we called Roto Router. The technician arrived exactly when we were promised, wearing a mask due to the pandemic. He worked with an understanding of what he was doing and within about an hour all the problems were solved. On 2/13/21 at around 9:45 PM, i noticed a leak coming from my hot water heater. I looked for emergency plumbers on google. I called several and Roto Rooter was the first to call me back. A guy named Leon Grober came over at around 10:45 . The first thing he said to me was that he did not care if I got a hot water heater from him or not. He said sai he just wanted to bill my insurance company for some minor water damage in the bedroom next to the hot water heater. At around 11:30, 2 other guys came over. One was a guy named Michael. They brought over about 7 fans and a dehumidifier. I told them that I knew the carpet could be salvaged and not to get rid of it, I knew this because I had a much more severe flood 11 months earlier and the carpet was saved. About 30 minutes later I looked in the room and saw that they already cut up the carpet. Michael said the other guy did it. I then told them NOT to get rid of the baseboards. They left at about 1:30 AM. When I awoke the next day. I checked the room and saw water on the floor. I also noticed that 3 out of 7 fans were not even plugged in. I also saw that they had placed the fans vertical instead of horizontal. I knew that from the last flood. I called Leon and he said they would return in a few hours. I waited all day but they never came back. On Monday 2/15/21 at around 9:00AM, Michael called and said they would come over but they never came. When I asked him why the fans were not on or positioned correctly, he blamed the other guy and said he was in training and did not know what to do. I had my condo maintenece guy come over with a moisture meter and he said it was dry. I called Leon at 11:30AM and said to come pick up the fans. I said that I would pay him for 2 hours of labor even though they did a horrible job and for 36 hours for the use of the fans. He said he wanted $3000. I knew that price was crazy because I paid about $1200 for another much more severe flood 11 months ealier. At that time, there were 2 men here ofr about 12 hours over 2 days and the fans were here for 5 days. They finally came to pick up the equipment the next day,\. When a guy named Darius came to pick up. I asked him to move back the furnitue and he said he could not do it alone and would return with another guy in a few hours, They never came back. Leon said he would put a Lein on my home and i receved a letter about that. I had to spend $900 for new carpet and $300 for new baseboards. At 930pm I get a call saying they do not have an experienced enough technician to come out. That their only available experienced technician has been stuck on a call all day. After complaining about wasting our whole day they sent out a technician. At 10pm at night he shows up and proceeds to tell us that he does not have the proper equipment to do the job. Will never use roto-rooter ever. Do not recommend. They waste your time and lie to you all day long. They knew at 930 am what kind of technician they needed for installing a new hot water heater. Ever met someone that managed to get your blood boiling within 5 minutes of meeting them? Well, I met one today, and it was my Roto Rooter technician. Luckily for him, I didn't catch his name. If I had, I would enjoy very much putting him on blast here. But anyway, here's my story *cue law & order bells*. So, I open the door, he mumbles a quick hello and asks me what I need. I say my hot water heater is constantly tripping my breaker. He says what breaker. A bit confused by the question, I just walk him over to it. After no more than 60 seconds of looking at the breaker box and the water heater itself, he says ok it's $197 for troubleshooting and you can apply that if you do a repair. Already being just generally frustrated by the situation, I mutter to myself more than to him, wow by the time we're done I may as well just replace the thing. Keep in mind, the unit is less than a month old so it would be frustrating to have to put any amount of money into it. But it was just more of an idle comment to myself than anything. Well this must have offended him as a "professional", because he looks at me and says "I DON'T MEAN TO BE RUDE, but what did you expect? 50 bucks for me to DRIVE out here and fix your water heater?" Well no sir, I didn't think that at all, but thanks for pointing it out in the most rude way possible. But I let that one go, and before I made any decisions just tried to think of any bit of information that may help in a diagnosis. So him being a "professional" and all, I tried asking him just a couple of general questions, about maybe if something that I know had happened recently could possibly cause the issues I was having. Just really basic stuff, would've taken no more than a minute to answer. But I guess his "expertise" was too valuable to be wasting on me because he looked up at me again and said "Look, I'M NOT TRYING TO BE RUDE, but I'm not gonna sit here and discuss what may or may not be wrong with it here for free. We're PROFESSIONALS. If you want our opinion, it's $197." It was at this point I showed him the door. Don't call us, we'll call you. They should really consider implementing a simple personality test into their hiring process. Nothing special, just enough to determine if he's fit to interact with his own species. On Thursday I took the day off to meet a plumber between 10-2... by 4:45 I called to ask what is going on and was told "someone" would be out to my premises. Called back at 6:45 and was told they weren't coming but would be able to come out Friday... it's now Friday at almost 8:30 and I was told that they could re-schedule for tomorrow morning... sure! Sign me up for more wasted hours of waiting for a plumber. Their customer service sucks. This company is useless and unprofessional... they cost me $270 in lost wages waiting for a plumber that was never going to show up. They don't care. No apologies whatsoever.
