Rough Trade is so cool: just off Brick Lane, it is a huge mecca of all things musical. It's probably the best independent music store in London, and one visit it's easy to see why, with wi-fi, coffee bar, seating outside and an amazing array of vinyl. They sell tees, concert and festival tickets, and the staff really know their stuff. Awesome. read more

Probably my favourite record shop now that sister Ray on Berwick St has downsized. It has a great selection of vinyl and music. Even a photo booth which is popular, and my favourite selling point being a gig most evenings from various acts from around the world (if you manage to get a wristband). I gave this place 4 stars for it's history with The Smiths and it's overall selection of vinyl,but I had to take off one star for the fact that their hip-hop selection blows. I also really enjoyed their selection of books. Definitely a must if you visit London. I also like that you can stagger in drunk from the booze stand across the street. read more

I love this shop. For the bands they promote, the laid back atmosphere and the events they organize. However, I went there yesterday as the venue was on the Photo Month trail, supposedly holding one of the photo exhibitions. I entered the shop, I asked the guy behind the counter where I can find it. He had no clue, he called his mate, he didn't have a clue either, but he offered to find out. I lost him in the crowd of customers, but I was expecting him to be back soon with the information. 5 minutes have past and I've noticed that actually the photos I was about to see hang along the alley high above our heads (and he had no idea!). So I thought I'm gonna find him and tell him I found what I was looking for, when I spotted him at the end of the shop he was.. behind another counter serving customers! How rude read more

The staff are very helpful, really nice, and knowledgeable! I could spend hours in there, mining for gems. I have to try really hard not to burn through my money there because I'm prone to walk out with armloads of stuff. I don't care if CDs and records take up space, nothing beats the experience of a trip to the record shop. And no shop beats Rough Trade. read more

Rough Trade is simply the best record store I have visited in London. This is the record store for music lovers! The best part about this store is the selection of independent records. Every time I find something new and interesting music, read their own reviews, and enjoy being there. The shop is pretty big, it's got a lot of varity, and that all that you can listen records with headphones as long as you like. The nice atmosphere, cafe and internet access will make you spend half day there before you even notice. Also I have to give special credits for the staff that is always so friendly and cares about getting you the product want and isn't shy about suggesting what you need, and just know their stuff. read more

They had a booth at this years Primavera festival 2014. They carried most titles by most artists. What caught my attention was that they had the uncensored Morrissey book for 9 Euro which his the cheapest I've seen it. I am from Canada and we have the censored version for $30. This was a steal. Now I have to find some room in my suitcase to bring it back home. read more

This record shop scares me! it's SOOOOOOOO good. They stock almost every genre of the hippest and hottest new music, aswell as a great selection of back catalogue. They have free interpipes at the back so you check out if your forthcoming purchase will win you more friends on facebook. They have lovely staff that really know their onions, errr, music. They have a coffee shop bit with seats and cakes and coffee and tea, AND best of all they sometimes have tiny free concerts for those lucky enough to grab tickets. The quintessential record store and the music destination that should be mandatory in every city. Bigger than its Notting Hill sister store, with the capacity for a bigger selection, more vinyl, more books, and of course, a live space that brings in some of the most important indie bands playing today. But for its glossier finish, it's still very much a Rough Trade shop: no pressure when you're browsing, and an enthusiastic staff who will chat with you about records (really, how can a record store employ anyone who won't chat with you about records? The original rough trade has now moved east and it is as good as ever. Offering a wide range of vinyl as well as CDS the staff are expertly trained and really know their stuff. In addition to the music they also have one off gigs showcasing new bands (and Radiohead). This is a complete one stop shop for all types of music and should be in every self respecting Londoners address book. read more

Rough trade opened just over a year ago just off Brick Lane, compared to most record shops this place is huge. It give you plenty of space to take your time having a good look around which takes a while due to the ever increasing amount of stock. The main difference from other record shops is the other uses this place has, there's a nice little cafe at the front of the store selling drinks and snacks and there's internet access at the back. They also hold regular in store gigs who perform on a small stage at the back of the store. read more

Rough Trade East makes you feel like you are in Nick Hornby's High Fidelity. It is the aficionado's haunt and music is taken very seriously here. Not many places like this around anymore cos they are either competing with the megastores or the internet, so it is great to be in the company of people who appreciate and celebrate unique, underground merchandise. The instore music is loud, almost to club level (so much so the help require earplugs to preserve their delicate receptors) and when I went there was even a cool folk/indi gig playing right there in the shop. Cute photobooth allows you to take a band pic of you and your mates posing and pouting for your imaginary album cover. read more

Rough Trade, in many ways, are the best of the best. Rough Trade East has a great vinyl selection, are always playing some great new cuts on the stereo and the coffee shop serves good drinks at reasonable prices. It's just the staff I'm not sure about They are undoubtedly knowledgable but can come across as rude and disinterested sometimes. read more

i only had time to make it through the books, magazines, and 7 inch records, but that was enough to impress me. i have always loved going to rough trade in neal's yard (which on this most recent visit i was told is now closed). it was always a bit small, so i was psyched to visit this location where i could spread out, have an espresso, and spend hours. we were in a rush and they were closing early, so sadly i didn't get to spend hours, but my bank account will be thankful. i did leave with one rare 7 inch (that i know i can't find stateside...well, maybe in SF at amoeba), an interesting book written by nico's piano player about her last ever tour, and a cd with a special rough trade bonus ep, only available through the shop. it was really all i could fit in my luggage anyway, but i will definitely be back on my next visit. what's even better? it's on brick lane! a full day of vintage shopping and record shopping is a must. read more
