We were in some kind of luck when we happened to catch a glimpse of the sign along the highway in…read moreouter Quebec City for this RV (V.R en francaise) dealer. My husband has it in mind that at some point we will take to the open road without leaving too many of the comforts of home behind. Enter: the Class A diesel motor home. Where we live, dealerships for this size rig (40-45 feet long) don't exist nearby, so getting to actually see more than one of them at once for comparison isn't possible. This is why we screeched off the highway to take a gander at this place. We pulled in and met Alain who was our R.V tour guide. He was patient and sweet. Between his quite decent English and our sad French we got on just fine and had some laughs along the way. We discovered that this place is not a Prevost dealer which we had hoped. Nonetheless, there were other kinds of motor homes to see with enough similarities to the Prevost as to make this a worthwhile venture. The selection of both new and used motor homes was impressive These "homes with wheels" come with full kitchens, (I saw a couple with dishwashers too), washer-dryers, full bathrooms and lots of storage. Many of them have panels that expand the sides of the vehicle when it's parked allowing for more room inside. Because they are so big and not great at tight maneuvering, say in the parking lot of the supermarket, you need to tow your car behind it so you have something more reasonable to drive day-to-day. While here I was privately reminiscing about the Kerouac inspired "On the Road" trips I embarked on with friends over the course of 3 summers during college when we criss-crossed almost every inch of the United States in my simple Volvo 145 station wagon, camping and hosteling along the way. Getting older can be a bitch but the itch is still there to re-experience all the corners of the incredibly beautiful U.S. Spending weeks at a time in a tent or hostel no longer holds that same appeal so these homes on wheels start to look intriguing. Good news: unlike automobiles, motor homes in Canada can be sold to Americans as they meet all U.S. standards. We spent an informative and enjoyable hour or so here. I just might be hooked.

We came from out of province to pick up the RV with a 10 am appointment. Upon arriving at the dealer, they were still cleaning the RV and we did not get out of the dealership until 4 pm. A "starter kit" was added to the purchase price of the RV. I have no idea what this was for. Prior to making the purchase we were advised that two rear tires would be replaced. After leaving the dealership we pulled into a nearby campground, where a neighboring camper warned us about the very poor state of the tires. We learned that the 2012 RV had 2007 tires, which were badly worn and unsafe. When we complained to the dealer, we were offerred $500 as compensation. Our salesman suggested we hold off on taking this as he would try to get more. We have not heard from this dealership again, after leaving messages. We have subsequently ordered four new tires at over $600 each to ensure this RV is safe to drive. I would not recommend buying anything from this dealership.
