An alcohol-free G&T is discretely served to my seat-side table. Films are often personally announced just ahead of the Kaplinsky certificate and after the trailers. In Screen 1 the curtain draws and renounces and the lights go up, just at this moment, like the old days. My membership gets me a free supper for Throwback on Sundays (modern classics) and the lounge areas between the screens are worthy of experiencing for dining even if you're not up for a movie. Classic Modernist furnishings align to the Bauhaus movement / The International Style and serve to complement the building's architecture and history. Clean lines. Stylised neon. Decadent minimalism. Quality to detail. Lush textures. Red lights and mirrors. A relaxing atmosphere with wifi. There's a content partnership with AppleTV+ so you get exclusives, simultaneous releases and even opportunities to watch the pilot episode of a new small-screen series right here on the big one. The staff are professional, laid back and expedient. They have the sophistry to serve you when you require serving or leave you be if you want that. Jack stands out for his other-level Customer Service delivery which ALWAYS belies a genuine commitment to making your experience the very best. And I've worked in New York, New York so I know what first rate CS looks and feels like. There's a smart park with benches out back (there are two entrance/exits). St John's square is like Soho Square in the West End, London innterms of size and feel. I often sit there watching the footy on my phone or reading if I arrive early. It's peaceful and smart at this end of town. The Everyman smartphone app is the clincher. Book your seat, save to apple wallet, add to calendar for a reminder and often, as you leave the venue, it connects through to Apple Music and plays you the theme tune to what you just watched as you leave the building right into your airpods. Not bad! Check it out but don't tell everyone.

This location is HUGE - 23 screens, 4,723 seats, and one of the largest IMAX screens in Europe, The cinema is over multiple floors, and the layout can be a little confusing, the staff seem friendly enough and on guard to help. If you require lift access, you will require a staff member to help you with this as they are NOT customer operated. Escalators are available without the help of a staff member. There are lots of screens to pick up and purchase tickets, and there is normally at least one person on the manned desks if you want to use as little technology as possible to get your tickets. There are often cheaper screenings, costing around £4.99 per person, so it is reasonable and affordable, combined with the many offers available from many third-party companies including banks and insurance companies, who offer discounted cinema tickets. Snacks are expensive, but what cinema doesn't charge an arm and a leg for the slightest bite to eat? Not much has changed since the ODEON days, the main difference is the branding around the cinema, some parts could do with a refurb but still a nice, large cinema in a great central city location. 4*

M&M's added…read moreto giant buckets of popcorn, Coke Zero from a dispensing machine, Maltesers and other rubbish. The film was really funny but one could easily fall asleep on the recliners. Each seat had its own built - in tray. I remember cinema in the 1960's. It was nothing like this with plush seats that could seat you comfortably even if your waist-line was 90 inches. The seats here elevate your legs and drop you gently backways. Crystal clear sound and picture too. The 1960's local cinema houses had a smell. It wasn't overly pleasant with years of accumulated cigarette smoke creating an unmistakable odour. You could hear the motor noise as it widened or reduced the screen size/depth on the movie. The seats, like the carpet, were often cigarette burned, invariably when you put your hands on the seat arm rests you could feel the hard chewing gum left stuck by former guests once the flavour had gone. If the gum was on the carpeted floor it just became a black, almost solid, waterproof splodge and over time they accumulated into 100's of leathery splodges. The cinema seats folded up once you stood up. Midnight Cowboy was the first film that hit me right between the eyes and a whole lot different to Inside Out 2. In the 1960's we used to get a B movie as well as the A rated one and if we were lucky Pathé News with the clear, fruity and rich voice of Cyril Fredrick 'Bob' Danvers Walker, with just the suggestion of raffishness. Bob became the announcer voice on Michael Miles Take Your Pick. During films a girl would walk round with a tray with a fixed light on it selling mini tubs of ice creams, poppet chocolates (chocolate coated mint, orange, peanut or raisin). The cinema has massively cut down on the number of screens however they have significantly improved on the viewing experience. Each cinema screen is filled with reclining leather seats and pullout tables attached to them. This is honestly the best viewing experience I have had at a cinema in a long time and for the great price of £8. When me and my friend visited the cinema we used the Meerkat Movies offer so we received the 2 tickets for the price of 1 and it was totally worth the price!! Would highly recommend!

They've changed to Baskin Robbins ice-cream range now which is a shame as Ben and Jerry's was much nicer. You can get a cineworld card for £16.40 a month which if you go twice a month on weeknights or a weekend would be worth it. Costs nearly a tenner for an adult ticket otherwise. Comfy cinema seats and clean toilets. Parking is free but hard to find at busier times. It's also easy to get here by bus or tram with the stops a couple of minutes away. There's also a tesco close by which could be handy. Plus the usual Nandos, Bella Italia etc chain restaurants and a bowling alley with lots of video games. Also a casino where you can get a 2 course meal and a cinema ticket for £12.95 on a Sunday or Thursday night. I done this and it was pretty good, although you have to bring a passport to join up with the casino.

In fact this does seem to be the new way of doing things by the council - let's build things on brown field sites and aim to create a new urban hub around it. With very little passing traffic, it's going to take a while to really become a mainstream destination but it is very easily reached with Deansgate and Oxford Road stations around 5 mins walk. On this occasion I was looking for somewhere to work for a few hours and sat upstairs in their cafe bar grabbing a couple of flat whites and a bacon bap . Not bad all round and pretty quiet on a Monday morning. It did get much busier at lunch time so it's good to see peeps really enjoying this offering! You can sit outside on deck chairs and tables and there's a cafe downstairs just selling drinks and cake.

For those of us without a car it can be a bit of a trek to Didsbury, the Trafford Centre or the Cornerhouse to catch a flick. Thank God for Chorlton Film Institute (and I suppose the man upstairs actually is partly to thank as it is located in St. Clement's Church.) Each month an arthouse film is shown. They span a very broad range from foreign films such as the wonderful Das Leben der Anderen, modern films such as Juno and old silent films such as Hitchcock's The Lodger. At £5 a time (including refreshments) this is cheaper than it would cost to go to any of Manchester's cinemas, and the institute does not make a profit from this. You don't need to be a member - turn up and pay on the door - simples. If you join the facebook group then you will automatically receive an invite to each screening. Such a fantastic idea. Just a shame that screenings are monthly and not weekly!

We were really looking forward to our night out over the festive period with, as the website stated at time of booking, plenty of festive food, drinks and entertainment. As the night drew closer, the website gradually changed to reflect the fact the organisers had either failed to secure the previously promised Christmas vendors, or had made the decision to limit the offering. There were two catering stands on site, one of which offered burgers and chips, whilst the other had a selection of cadburys chocolate. No hot chocolate, no mulled wine, no mince pies!!!! We pulled into our space and tuned the radio in to the local broadcasting frequency. This aspect worked pretty well, as we were able to have complete control of the volume inside our car, but there was a delay between the screen and the audio, which drives me crazy after a while. Before the movie started, we were tortured with the 'host' showing us how good a singer she was. A true X-Factor wannabe, but sadly lacking any real talent. This endured for a good 20 minutes, before she tried to get some audience participation which basically consisted of everyone beeping their horns. Thankfully the film finally started and we settled down to watch It's a Wonderful Life. It's one of those films I watch every year, but next time I think I'll save myself the hassle and money and watch it at home instead.

Although there was no kids menu, my girls, 3 & 6 LOVED their Mac & Cheese side dish. Quite frankly, when I tasted it I did not think they would like it because (I'm not sure what cheese they used, tasted like blue cheese, but I could be wrong) it was very strong. However, when they took their first bite they absolutely loved it, and devoured both of their plates. My food was lovely too. Nice portions and tasty. There's a Fußball table by the bar should you fancy a quick comp with your mates. Towards the back of the space are the courtyard areas, which will soon be the location of the 'silent' cinema screenings - they're aiming to host the first one at the end of June and the film will be, what else, but 1992 Belgian black comedy crime mockumentary Man Bites Dog! They've said they're a work in progress, but so far it's looking like a great place to chill out - next time we'll have a look at their French inspired food menu.
