If you want a real cattle ranch experience then this is the place for you. You will take care of your horse all week and ride everyday. The food is great home cooked meals and a real down home feel. My husband and I just spent five (5) FANTASTIC days at Rowse's 1+1 Ranch! We always wanted to go to a dude ranch and struck GOLD when we came across this Nebraska Sand Hills' treasure! Jerry and Tammy Rowse are the owners. We felt welcome the moment we arrived! The accommodations are extremely comfortable, and the food is FABULOUS! We sat around a large table for every meal interacting with Jerry, Tammy, and the other guests! It made me feel like a scene taken right out of The Waltons! Our stay was very well organized! We had the privilege of "catching our own horse, placing a halter around its neck and leading it out of the corral. The next step is brushing the horse really well, followed by saddling the horse, and finally removing the halter and replacing it with the bridle. We were provided ample assistance from Jerry, Tammy, and most notably, TO, aka Tonya! Each of them assists in such a professional manner that we NEVER felt intimidated or as though we were being subjected to condescension. We hadn't saddled a horse in nearly thirty (30) years, but thanks to their mentoring, we were literally "back in the saddle again"! The horses are phenomenal! Jerry divvies up the work amongst each guest daily and by day's end we were exhausted, but anxious to go again the next morning! If you like to ride, this is the place for you! If you like to eat, this is the place for you! If you like hardworking awesome people, this is the place for you! If you like honesty and integrity from the owners of the ranch, this is the place for you! If you want a vacation full of memories for a lifetime, this is the place for you! We cannot WAIT to go back next year! We have made new friends at Rowse's 1+1 Ranch in Burwell, NE; but best of all, Jerry, Tammy, Kyle, Tracy and T.O. are more like family than friends! Rowse's 1+1 markets and prices itself as a top tier riding destination. While there are some nice and positive things about Rowse's such as the general venue and quality of the food, the negatives sufficiently outweighed these for us to rate it as a 1. A.) It's not well organized. There's no daily schedule or explanation of the day's activities other than when to meet at the barn to tack the horses. You never knew what you were doing or how long you'd be gone until you'd left the barn and there were many dead hours when there was no option but to hang out. Our last day there we finished up rounding up the cattle around 10:30 and no one had a clue what if anything was scheduled for the rest of the day. B.) The support staff while helpful in getting the horses ready obviously has had no training in quest relations and was often curt and condescending. This was a marked contrast to the many other venues where we've traveled. C.) The problem starts at the top. Jerry often seemed like the guests' intrusion and inconvenience created for his operation was only tolerated because of the supplemental revenue. After he directed an inappropriate, rude, disrespectful and crude comment at me (but clearly heard by my wife and another quest), we decided we'd had enough and were packing up and leaving as soon as we got back to the ranch. The "working cattle ranch" experience is something we'd entertain again as riding in the beautiful open pastures and driving the cattle was quite a pleasant experience. However we would not recommend or consider Rowse's 1+1 again. read more
