At the time, her credit/debit card machines were down so thank goodness my mom brought enough cash. Lol. Tickets were as follows: Adults = $10 Senior citizens = $9 Children = $5 The building combines what used to be a saloon and later a hotel. There was a slew of information that we didn't get to read or skim because it was blocked off by half doors or locked screen doors. In the saloon, there was an electronic, animated bartender that supposedly mimicked the real bartender who was present when the shootout/murder happened. My oldest daughter thought his eyes were creepy. Lol. There was a theater room for patrons who are physically unable to climb the staircases... a video tour film was made about the history of the museum. The gift shop was actually a big hit for my all-girls group of four. I bought a recipe book put together by all the locals of Pecos, including our museum docent. My daughters loved the rocks, arrowheads, and a t-shirt... plus the cantaloupe-flavored jelly beans! Note: The sweetest, best cantaloupes come from Pecos! Ms. Lara reminded my young daughters to recite to her their favorite part of the museum. She kindly gave them a couple of pieces of candy for doing so. Free parking. Restrooms in the courtyard area which can be rented out for parties, weddings, etc. A statue of "Pecos Bill" is near the parking lot as are the 8-ft tall brightly-painted cowboy boots. Also within walking distance was the Texas Rodeo Hall of Fame, but they had already closed. Love the ranching & military history of this area. Don't let it be forgotten!

Visit the Rattlesnake AirBase Museum/history of the air base that was in Pyote. There is a remnant of the church steeple that was on the airbase. So much to see. The Holland House, Coca Cola Museum and Heritage Museum are all in one place! Thumbs up!!

They did a great job recreating it (at a smaller scale, of course) but it's still amazing to see up close, and you're allowed to walk through the pillars here, whereas in the UK you can't get anywhere near the actual Stonehenge pillars. We were on a road trip and when I heard about this place, I knew we had to swing by and experience it for ourselves. It was only about 15 minutes out of the car, but when you're driving across the massive emptiness of West Texas, every cool stop is worth the chance to stretch your legs. Stonehenge in Texas?…read more Actually it's a "Stonehenge Replica" of the mysterious United Kingdom sight, but it's still pretty cool. Located on the campus of the University of Texas Permian Basin, these sculptures are perfect for the setting... the bright football stadium lights in the background certainly give it a different meaning. Lol. Yeah, it's obvious it was "mechanically-cut" not to mention "stacked with cranes." But the saving grace, Paul D. (review from 1/27/2020), is not that this is a free permanent outdoor art exhibit, but that this sparked so many questions from my daughters, ages 9 & 10. We visited on Good Friday 2024. It was awesome to experience their curiosity and listen to their hypotheses on everything from the real deal far across the pond to the planning of this development. This would be even better to view at night time in my opinion, but our schedule did not allow for us to stay longer. Seniors and graduate students of the college stopped by to capture graduation photos while we were there. Ample, free parking.

We received a tour as a homeschool group. The lady who showed us around (I cannot remember her name…read morenow) was fantastic! She knew the history well and made the tour a real treat. Some of the furniture pieces used to stage the house were real elegant and fun to see. They have an original bedroom set to the White family made of wood, in pristine condition, incredible! The rotary phone actually works and my child was able to make a local call on it. The house sits on the highest natural point in Odessa and grows pretty much anything they want to plant. The house has suffered some vandalism and made me long for simple days of the past where people had work to do and didn't go around cutting up other peoples trees and damaging property. All in all I loved this field trip offered to us and highly recommend going if you can. I know the city doesn't want much to do with this historical site, which is a real shame. If the city became involved this historical site might be here for future generations of people. I know they are struggling to keep it as it is. It's a real gem.

It's basically a self guided tour that you walk through all rooms. The ground is beautiful and well kept... Staffs here were all very friendly and would chat with you if you want to know more about the history or about the town. i was asking them where can I find a roadrunner since the city symbol is a roadrunner :XD They told me to take my time taking as many photos as I want! I was told to go few blocks down to visit the Old Fort...which I believe I happened to drive by earlier but it wasn't well marked on the map. Also it looked like someone is still living there. (Later I was told there are still people live at the old officer quads) This museum is part of my lovely memories of the TX road trip:)

A much bigger museum than I was expecting when I put this on the list of places to stop for our…read morelatest road trip across Texas, but I'm very glad we went! Honestly, I do wish we could have spent more time here because there's so many different sections and the displays are beautiful and full of information that people of all ages will enjoy. While there's obviously a heavy lean to only discuss the pros of oil and gas and the extraction of these resources (and sometimes the propaganda is painfully obvious), the detailed information in the different sections still makes it highly educational and we were very impressed by how many interactive displays there were. If you have any kids with you (or you're a kid at heart) make sure to go on the "ride" near the middle of the museum where you get to pretend you're on a flying ship to steal resources from the ocean and other countries. It's wild but very entertaining to press the touch screens and experience their little story! Just don't focus too hard on how you're shooting a laser into the ground of an independent, populated country to "claim" resources lol The best part of the entire museum for us was actually the mineral exhibit. Absolutely breathtaking samples from across Texas and around the world, and as big rock nerds we would have willingly spent a whole half hour just walking through the gorgeous room and looking at all the displays. Don't miss it! There's also beautiful art in this area, and that hallway winds around to the exhibit on race cars, which was a very fun way to end our tour of the museum. I'd recommend at least 1.5 hours to see everything, but you could probably spend more time just having fun and enjoying the interactive displays! A great museum that captures the history of oil and gas that built up this area of Texas, and so much of Texas' economy in general. Worth a stop for sure!

The mining pumps are amazing to see from the beginning of the era to the modern industrial era. I enjoyed learning about diatoms, the Permian Basin, shooters, and the difference between fracking and drilling. There are many classic race cars on display, and fun games to reinforce learning. I did not know that the U.S. produces the most oil in the world. I also did not know that Midland is the birthplace of petroleum and natural gas as well as the largest oil field in the U.S. The museum also has art on display. The restrooms are clean, the museum is bright and colorful, and staff are friendly. The museum is also kid friendly. Check it out!

The dolls dressed as First Ladies kind of freaked me out, but I loved the presidential bobble heads! The lady working their was a born and bread Texan, and very passionate about her job, explained a lot to us non Americans that I wasn't expecting - so made it much easier to give the suggested $5 donation at the end - especially because she wasn't pushy. Of all the painted portraits of more recent presidents, Clinton is the only one with his left hand in his pocket hiding his wedding ring. Pure co-incidence, I think not! I'd definitely recommend a quick stop if you're a non american in the area.
