Definitely one of the must visit air museums in the UK! I've been to duxford a couple times over the years (also a must visit of course), and in my recent trip to the UK wanted to go somewhere else, so I picked RAF Cosford. Was not sure what to expect but the main hanger there definitely makes an impression on you as you pull up! Inside you will find a great collection of aircraft from WW1, WW2, to the cold war, to the near present (an early eurofighter prototype for example). Some aircraft you might not really see anywhere else as they are either one of a few left or teh ONLY one left in existence! Either way I had a great time walking all around the collection (all housed indoors thankfully). Honestly my only complaint was I felt like the last hanger was a disappointment compared to the others. Especially the main cold-war hanger, but in a way it's a good thing they have room from improvement, as well as room to hopefully expand the collection too, gives me hope there will be a reason to come back on one of my future UK trips. read more

Great museum to see lots of aircraft primarily stored inside out of the elements, with a few outside on display. Absolutely loved the rare Japanese aircraft, experimental odd ones like the Bristol 188 and the Gloster Meteor Prone. Each of the planes have placards with plenty information about the history of that plane that is on display. They are the only place where you can find all of the V-Series bombers all intact, but unfortunately the Cold War hall is so crammed full of planes, that you truly cannot appreciate or completely see all of the planes. The museum overall is free, there is a fee to park which you supposedly can pay in advance online (it did not work for me), or you can pay inside because none of the machines in the parking lot work. I took the family to this RAF Museum. My kids (aged 4 and 9) both enjoyed the hands on fun and flight area and we spent about 1.5 hours between the three large, well kept buildings which contain a lot of planes, tanks, etc. Completely free to get in, guide books can be bought for £3 each I think. We didn't go in the cafe but we thought the gift shop in the Cold War exhibition was quite reasonnable. It's quite a long way away from us but I wouldn't mind taking the boys again. A wonderful, WONDERFUL collection. This is the only location where one can view the three V bombers, Vulcan, Valiant (only complete example in existence) and Victor. I can't remember ever seeing a Polaris missile complete and separated in stages. The only example of Japan's Mitsubishi Ki-46 "Dinah" command reconnaissance plane is displayed here. The list of German WW2 weapons: Hs 293; Fritz-X; Taifun; Hs 298; BV 246; Hs 117; FI 103; Enzian; Rheintochter combustion chamber; X4; Wasserfall drop test model; Feuerlilie F25 experimental; Rheintochter R1; Feulilie F55 and Rheinbote. An example of the Walter HWK 109-500 rocket motor used as a take-off assistant for the He 111. The museum is free, but a donation is asked for or a purchase of the guidebook. Easy access by train station to Cosford and then a 20 min walk along the road, no real sidewalk. read more

It's free so you can't really complain! There's lots to see including world war, cold war and modern planes. There are huge hangers full of planes and exhibitions including James May's 1:1 scale airfix spitfire! The shop is also brilliant and has lots of world war goodies, books and and airfix kits. Situated at RAF Cosford, this has got to be one of the best value for money places to visit because it's absolutely FREE! A superb display of aircraft, both indoor and outdoor, and the new BRILLIANT Cold War exhibition housed in a building which surely should be in the running for the RIBA prize for architecture! A lovely modern entrance building contains a well-stocked shop and cafe. Plenty of free parking, and if you go on a Saturday or Sunday you can watch the gliders taking off and landing on the runway.
