The seven mile (11km) long seafront actually includes Hove (with which Brighton is linked) and some of the various suburbs to the west of Brighton marina, and has a wealth of things to do. The beach itself is famously pebbly, not that that puts off intrepid bathers (with the added benefit of not getting sand everywhere). But between the two piers, the front - actually under the road - is also lined with cafes, restaurants, bars, souvenir shops, art galleries, children's play areas, the odd bit of sculpture and Brighton's Fishing Museum. Towards Hove, there's a paddling pool for children, a few really excellent tea-huts and wide lawns for sunbathing. The whole seafront has a cycle-path, and is popular with joggers, as well as motorcyclists who park up at various points along the front every week-end, especially along Madeira Drive (and most notably on the annual Ace Cafe reunoin London-Brighton run, when there are tens of thousands of bikes). In summer, there are all sorts of things going on for children, while at night it takes on a party atmosphere courtesy of the bars. Every so often there are large open-air concerts, courtesy of Fatboy Slim and his ilk. Even the ruins of the West Pier have a romantic air about them. Truly something for everyone.

We'd bought a voucher through Wriggle - hot dog & free flowing prosecco for £9.95 (1-4pm) & I must admit we weren't sure how it would live up to our expectation but we were both really pleased - our hot dogs were really tasty, although a little small to be classed as a meal, but the free flowing prosecco was exactly that! After being given a wrist band to show that we were in the prosecco club, we never had an empty glass, staff wandered around all afternoon topping up our glasses, we never had to go to the bar or ask for a top up. It was great - I will definitely go back, it was such great value!

Open all year round, the theatre shows live music, drama, comedy, dance and literary events. Soul legends like Candi Staton and Marlena Shaw have graced the stage alongside contemporary rock, pop, jazz and classical musicians. I've been to a couple of different events and I'd definitely go back. My only grumble is that it lacks the intimacy and atmosphere of other venues in the city. The theatre itself can feel like a big village hall, especially when it's not full and the bar is quite limited. If you like a G&T you're fine but if you want an Absolut vodka with cranberry and a slice of lime, you'll go thirsty.

They have a very strict policy on check-in times, and I got in from the US rather early and had to pass the time in the lobby, jetlagged, when all I wanted was to spend some time alone or at least freshen up. The staff were accommodating enough, but in the end, I kind of felt bad asking for what I needed. One good thing about being imprisoned in the lobby was that the food is excellent and the coffee is decent. I spent two nights here, and there was a balance of good and bad. I had a sea view room (comes with a decent view of the sea -- and complimentary loud squawks from heaps of seagulls that echo along the square). The bathroom wasn't totally clean and the tea set was dirty but the bed was comfy and they actually had good complimentary tea. There wasn't a good place to work in the room, but there was ample space in the hotel's common area to work unless you had to be on calls. I definitely struggled with my options to work properly without straining. If you're just going to Brighton for hangs, this place will do you well. If you need to work or need considerations like early check-in, you're better off staying at a more standard hotel.

There's also a breakfast room and bar downstairs - which doubles as an ad-hoc art gallery showing different artists each month. The hotel was started by a 20 year old entrepeneur apparently - which might explain why although the staff are all young and friendly, it's often hard to work out who runs the place. Rates are £60-£90 in the week and £90-£140 at weekends.

Our group of 10 travelled to Brighton, standing outside the doors to find the show was not on from a chef working in the kitchen as we managed to find someone inside! The sales advisor Chloe confirmed we could either move to an evening show or have a full refund as we couldn't attend the later show. We requested a refund and now we find they are uncontactable, no response from anyone still awaiting a full refund or any information. I am writing this review to hope that a representative can help us. Please get in contact asap.

They really did a great job of transforming the space…read moreinto a space with discrete areas for shows (inside an inflatable tent), food and beer (with heat lamps), and there was even some guy who had vintage video games and CRTs. The show I saw was Shit-faced Showtime: The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, which was hilarious. Great way to cap off our trip to Brighton!
