A Great small local theatre, in the heart of Paignton…read more Recently refurbished, this theatre caters for small-end productions, and amateur shows. Staff are very friendly, and it's a nice venue. Toilets are situated downstairs, a disabled toilet on the main floor. The seating is slanted, and are two entrances to the top of the slope, and the bottom. Nice air-blowing facilities, however if you sit too near the front, you end up getting cold. If you sit nearer the back, you get really hot - So try and sit in the middle. A Nice, little stage, the theatre holds about 400 people. There is a nice little bar, where they sell drinks, crisps, nuts, and sweets. They sell Ice-Creams in the intermission. The theatre has a nice modern theme right across the board. Well worth a visit to this theatre, for a smaller show.

This is a really compelling art form - if you're interested at all you should check out this shop where you can see finished mosaics as well as t eh products and equipment needed to make them. Opus Mosaics sell mosaic tiles for craft/art purposes and also for DIY purposes, with a selection of really unusual tiles for bathrooms or kitchens. They also have the tools needed to fit them.

Having shelled out £50 for a workshop to…read morelearn about the craft, there was no welcome for me and my fellow attendees on arriving at the course, no refreshments were provided at all over 5 hours, it was made very clear we should not come back early from our hour's lunch break, and the toilet facilities were abysmal - the sink was filthy and there was no hot water, soap or towels for us to clean the glue from our hands. The expertise offered to us was very limited. Having been initially told what to do, we were largely left to our own devices for c.4 hours to make a mosaic whilst the husband and wife supposedly running the course talked to each other at intervals about personal family affairs as opposed to providing support and inspiration. It was very unprofessional and certainly not money well spent. I would urge anyone interested in taking part in a mosaic course to think twice about going to Opus Mosaic.

This is a gorgeous art gallery/shop in Beer, on the Devon coast…read more Beer is a lovely little fishing village, relatively untouched by mass tourism (it's too difficult to access for big bus loads). The pebble beach is idyllic, and you can watch fishing boats coming back with their catch - which they also sell there and then. Back to the gallery: they have 2 outlets in the village, the Steam Gallery and the Marine House. Both display work from local artists, and the quality is very high (so are some prices). We found the most exquisite hand blown glass pieces, which would not be out of place in the most expensive shops in London. Beer itself is worth a visit for its quaint, quiet and authentic atmosphere; and whilst you are there, these two artshops should be on your list.

The Steam Gallery in the pretty East Devon fishing village of Beer is a good place to browse for…read moregifts or that special treat for yourself. The gallery is housed in several rooms on the ground floor of what was once a house. It is the sister gallery to Marine House, which is situated further down the road towards the sea. The Steam Gallery has less traditional paintings than Marine House, although there is plenty on the walls often the emphasis is on sculpture and 3 dimensional work. Last time I visited there was a lot of glass sculpture on display, and there is usually jewellery and pottery too. Original artwork by local artists.
