Flakey, crunchy and perfectly pepperily seasoned - my veggie pepper pasty was scrumptious on a cold Port Adelaide morning. It means they've used butter in their pastry and you're onto a hidden gem. This newly renovated and owned bakery is also very well laid out so you can sit and eat at their inside bench top or outside to avoid leaving crumbs everywhere. A modern and fresh interior with cool industrial lighting has been enough to take this place from corner shop to destination bakery. We couldn't help but order a Veneziano coffee, which was strong and really beautifully flavoured (I wish I knew what blend they were using as it was so different). And with ingredients like KI Honey, the hipster in me couldn't avoid ordering a honey and pistachio baked cheesecake. It was dense, creamy and a great sweetness mixed with the slightly sour cheesecake. Lovely service and still unknown to the general public, I'd get down here one seedy Saturday morning too and fill up on baked goods!

You can grab a pasty, sausage roll, meat pie and few other additions I can't recall sorry! But they all look yummy! Grab a coffee and your set for drive down to the beach!

Ice cream and the beach are inextricably mixed. You can't be near a beach without icecream. I don't care if I'm wandering up and down the street, chasing seagulls on the shore front, or sitting on a nice patch of grass in the median strip - icecream makes the Semaphore experience perfect. Especially chocolate mudcake icecream. And I always love supporting a local and long standing business. I have nothing against Copenhagen across the road (I have nothing against anywhere that provides me with ice cream!), but this place will always get my business.

Well for me that shore was Semaphore and that Ice Cream shop was Take 2 Ice Creamery. I am not sure if it is the same name as the shop we used to go to countless seasons ago, but it definitely served the same Ice Cream. There really is something nostalgic about Golden North, especially the Honey flavour and I mean this in a completely non-sexual way.....well, mostly. I was Yelping down Semaphore Road just last week and had to partake in a cone. They have competition now, with Royal Copenhagen just across the road, but for the purists like me the choice is easy!

This place might have the title of a not-so-fancy Saturday night strip joint on Port Rd but instead…read moreit is cosy little cafe on Semaphore Rd that is a breakfast favourite for locals and Adelaide "tourists" alike. The place is decorated in a minimalist style, simple tables and chairs, some booths, couches, benches and basically anything that will fit more people in to this always packed brekkie and lunch cafe. If the 5m long menu board isn't overwhelming enough for your taste buds make sure you DO NOT LOOK at the food cabinet on the way up to making your order as it will just confuse you more. The first time I went here I was distracted by so many things on the menu that I went for the safe eggs and coriander on rye option. A bit disappointed at the cost versus size of the meal my experience was slightly tainted. But as I sipped on my Ginger Zinger drink that was like star anise and gingery lemon jesus juice in a cup I looked closer at the menu and at what people were eating. It seemed that their big pancake and their roti wraps are the way to go. Upon my return to give this place a second shot I ordered a vegetarian twist on a bacon and egg wrap and, despite a bucket load of sauce and a fair amount of oil, I was impressed. As Laura said though, aside from the Ginger Zinger, the other highlight here is the bowls of coffee they serve. Yes it is a bowl and it is filled with smooth, creamy coffee goodness for you to dip your whole face into. Also don't go past their gluten free desserts here! Their lemon curd cake is delicious.

HOW DID I NOT NOW ABOUT THIS CAFE UNTIL RECENTLY?…read more Sorry for the all caps tirade: but I'm just that excited. I visit sleepy Semaphore quite a lot, as the old parent-shaped people live that way, and it was only relatively recently that I stumbled across this haven of Scandinavian delights. And I'm not just talking about the cute mustachioed barista. Complementing the birch tree wall art and Viking paraphernalia (I'm a huge sucker for Viking paraphernalia) is a tasty menu of baked goodies that are fresh, sweet and plentiful - as well as Swedish-inspired specialties like elderflower drinks and traditional waffles. Any country that has a TRADITION of waffles is all right by me. They seem to be undergoing renovations at the moment, but the place is still very cute, with kitschy Swedish accessories, some chandelier action, as well as the aforementioned radical Viking stuff. There always seems to be a queue here which is also a good sign - and, super importantly, the coffee is solid. ALSO: THEY SERVE COFFEE IN A BOWL. A bowl, people. Further evidence that this is my kind of place.

This place has a hidden agenda, an undercover mission to bring veganism to Adelaide. It's as sneaky…read moreas Connery, as straightforward as Craig and has the swagger of Brosnan. A simple, no fuss menu of soups, salads, a burger of the day and some raw sweets are seemingly "just healthy" but are all subtly vegan. Vegans rejoice because you can come here and not feel the need to "justify" the menu to your omni friends! See if they notice is my hot tip. The space is open, colourful and very simple but there is plenty of space to sit on couches, tables and benches. The service is very casual but friendly. I chose a Punk Rock Soup of the Day with pumpkin, cannelloni beans and rosemary with cape seed toast and cashew butter if you please! The soup was piping hot, sweet and not mushy like baby food. It had some great strong flavours and I like the different combo of ingredients. A medium sized, health conscious serving it kept me full until way past dinner time. Coffee is Campos blend (only 1 of 3 cafes to serve it in Adelaide). And if you show interest they will tell you that this is the chosen blend because of is incredibly hands on, environmentally conscious owners. Every little detail here has been so carefully thought out to ensure this place fulfils its environmentally and socially conscious values but to others it can still just be a bargain of a menu and a shining star of a venue in an area that is is trying to build its street cred. Bravo!

I really wanted to be blown away by this place and it almost did blow me away…read more.. The style was eclectic, nothing matched, nothing gentrified. It was very original. I'd actually have to question if anything had changed after it was converted from its last life as a different store, did they literally just drag an open kitchen in? I'm all for hipster joints with reclaimed tables and exposed walls but I have to call stuff out when it's purely left untouched. I feel like this place was left untouched which made it feel dusty. We sat at a reclaimed garden table, it still had hints of its previous outside life being quite dusty and grimy on its edges. We drank water from jam glasses that should have screw top lids, regardless of how hipster that is, it's not really comfortable to place your mouth on, and how do they clean the inside of these things properly when you can't get a hand inside, and they're used so often? I ordered a banana smoothie with dates added it was very sweet. It was nice and had a real raw food cafe taste. Can't complain there. The coffee, I ordered a cappuccino that sadly has to get 1 star it was muddy and bland. I had to rescue it with a sugar and even then it was not quite coffee. I do expect quite a lot from a well priced cafe and coffee is a central offering of any cafe. Maybe it was the barista on the day because others sing the stores praise but If your coffee game isn't up to par it's hard to appreciate why that's so, just being fair trade certified organic isn't enough, I'm afraid. As a meal I had a carrot and walnut burger. It was really nice. I'm not a sole vegetarian but I completely appreciated the flavours and ingredients in this burger, it was lovely. Only one of the relishes I couldn't decipher wasn't to my liking but that's only personal preference this burger saved the whole review and brought up my over all experience. If you're looking for a vegetarian burger, this place has it! $11 for the burger though, is that worth $11 alone? I'm not quite sure about that but I was certainly full after. Overall not too bad, I see it as an overly try-hard hipster cafe that isn't quite on point yet. Instead of trendy reclaimed, it's just dusty and reclaimed, if the average price was brought down everything might align to being more congruent with the setting and offering of this cafe. Overall I would come again with my friends who have variety here as vegetarians but not on my own where I think I could find cheaper alternatives.

I absolutely loved the pulled pork, thought it was the winner out of the meats, and it went so well with the apple slaw. The mac n cheese was great, but serving sizes for the sides were a bit small (I ate 4 'serves' of mac n cheese and could easily have eaten more). The potato tots were salty and crispy and tasted great with the blue cheese dipping sauce. I absolutely hate blue cheese, but this sauce was great. The only disappointment for me was the beef brisket. It tasted nice but hadn't been cooked long enough so the fat hadn't broken down properly. Not a huge deal though as I was happy to keep going back to that delicious pulled pork. The staff were really great and the store itself had a really good vibe. If you're thinking of going I have two pieces of advice for you: 1. Book a table! They are really busy so you'll probably miss out if you don't book 2. Go as soon as they open! They only cook a certain amount of each item and sell out quite regularly. My husband went there once at 7pm and they'd already sold out of the beef brisket (they have a count on the wall that tells you how many of each are still available that night).
