The museum is well curated and narrated, the gift shop has a nice (very pricey) collection, and the cafe (Brasserie 1653) serves you your food in delftware. Whole experience was a nice way to spend the day!

Arriving in Delft, our Globus tour stopped at a brick industrial building named De Porceleyne Fles (The Porcelain Jar). It is the home and manufactory of Royal Delft. The building also contains the Royal Delft Museum. A tour of the premises began with the Delft workshop where craftsmen were forming the pieces from clay, preparing them for painting, painting designs on the formed pieces and then glazing and firing them. (We sort of saw the process in reverse order.) The museum displays Delftware pieces old and new including a reproduction of Rembrandt's Night Watch in Delft tiles. Of course, there was also the opportunity to purchase Delftware. It was a most informative tour and I learned much about the production of Delftware.

I will be completely honest when I say I only went to Royal Delft because my mom wanted too. HOWEVER, I was presently surprised with the tour. You get to see real artists creating and designing the pieces. The audio your videos pretty much repeat what's on the plaques, so I didn't read many of them. It was a cool experience if you're in town.

Interesting spot in Delft for anyone interested in the traditional blue and white porcelain prevalent in Chinese culture, that eventually made its way to Belgium. Great exhibits showing their past and present handiworks, as well as an active, makers spot where you can witness the artisans actively working their wares. Main center square is not too far away, to make more of an outing to your visit to Delft.

I found this gallery just walking by on a Saturday afternoon hoping to score some amazing antique…read morepottery. But I didn't find anything until I saw the storefront of Terra. I was immediately drawn in by the array of quality artist that was represented there. I have a thing for tea pots, not just for decoration, I actually use them every day I'm home and I'm always on the lookout for something special and they had three something special in their store. At first I bought the gold tea pot with the white lid, when I was purchasing the item, another tea pot, the white porcelain one caught my eye and for a moment I almost thought of buying that one, but I thought the gold one was just a bit more unique for my collection. When I got back to my hotel, the white porcelain tea pot wouldn't leave me and I decided I had to have it, but, I leave on Tuesday morning and they aren't open til Wednesday! I quickly emailed the shop asking if there was any chance I could purchase the teapot and they replied quickly and agreed to be there Monday at 10:00, I was relieved. When I got there, I spoke to the owner who is also an artist and asked to see her pieces. She showed me the collaboration she was doing with a Chinese artist and guess what, she had a beautiful teapot, so I had to get that one too. Having written all about teapots here, they have an amazing collection of abstract pieces too, if only I had a bigger piggy bank.
