The Royal Hotel is easily the most beautiful hotel I have ever stayed in. The main difference; the element that makes the Royal really stand out, is the atmosphere. You can practically breathe in the history of the Hotel as you walk up the original wooden staircase, knowing that your footsteps are echoing those from a hundred years gone by. It's a surreal sensation. Many hotels try too hard to modernise and in doing so lose their original charm, but the Royal has achieved all the modern luxuries while managing to heighten the rustic appeal of the hotel.
The boutique charm and beauty of the accommodation turned our stay at the Royal into a romantic getaway, even though in reality it was only for one night. The beds were complete with piles of fluffy pillows, soft sheets and a heated blanket to ensure we quickly drifted off into a deep sleep. There were nice televisions and a seemingly endless supply of tea and coffee hidden away in the wardrobes of each room. And the amazing bathrooms - well I'll get to those later!
We could easily have a spent a week or two here and enjoyed lazy mornings in bed and late night cocktails at the bar. There is something very comforting about being able to simply wander upstairs after a hearty meal; instead of having to wait on the pavement for a taxi, or limit your drinks so you can drive.
And while I'm on the topic of meals, we were blown away by our dinner at the Royal! The attention to detail and the flavours were sensational. They tasted even better than they looked! In fact they were simply too good to pause for a photo, and that's saying something, as I'm renowned for making everybody wait so I can snap a few pictures! I personally recommend the Rosti Stack, its vegetarian done right and got a big tick from me (it was topped with avocado!). All the meals on our table were heartily enjoyed and the drinks flowed all evening, with a smooth Baileys on ice to cap off the night before we shuffled upstairs to our warm, cosy beds.
The next morning I was keen to try out the brand new shower! And it was so good! There is no shortage of hot water here and it was the most luxurious experience, drowning in sweet-smelling botanical soaps. I stayed nice and warm even when I (eventually) turned off the taps as there were high powered heat lights keeping the whole place toasty and fluffy towels to wrap up in - so luxurious!
We really wish we could have stayed longer at the Royal and we will definitely be back soon for a much longer visit. We can't stop raving about our stay to everybody back home and we think that the photos speak for themselves! The Royal has so much charm, and our night here truly felt like a trip to a romantic bygone era. read more
