A beautiful restaurant and wonderful customer service. The interior is very elegant and I would…read moreconsider using it for an event in the future if possible. Parking was not the easiest. I got the last space, but I couldn't see if overflow parking was available. The appetisers were very good and beautifully presented. The duck that my friend had looked wonderful. Our main courses were very good. The cod was lovely and the steaks were nice. My steak was a little fatty and I found the gristle very chewy on the end piece. I also like my triple cooked chips a little more crispy, but that's just my taste. The desserts were lovely and again beautifully presented. The ginger cake with chocolate mousse and the ganache plate were particularly good. The table next to us has the beef wellington and I would definitely order that if I went again. It looked phenomenal! Overall a lovely experience.

This restaurant excels at everything it seems..what a delight!…read more - Beautiful indoor and outdoor seating - Perfect service, attentive but not too much - Small thoughtful extras - Excellent food - Very well priced Came in for lunch. Had the 3 course lunch menu for £38 (what a steal!). Lamb belly for starter was delicious, well seasoned and put together dish. Mains I tried the pork collar which was very good but the house made black pudding was phenomenal, best I have ever had..inventively spiced, wish I could buy a kilo to take home. Dessert was fig leaf panna cotta, light and flavoursome. Had a coffee with dessert which was also excellent. Its very clear that they try to do everything to the best standard possible. Wish I lived closer.

Wow! Classic western English pub (ok, high class) fare. Near Highclere castle, the carpenters arms…read moreoffers a fantastic lunch and a wonderful view of the western English countryside. We were comfortably seated in the back room and quickly served by the wait staff. Baby Girl M decided on fried Brie (Jesus take the wheel!) and progressed to the standard ham and cheese sandwich - the Brie far out stripped the sandwich. Glammom went traditional with fish and chips - standard. Momma K - Prawn and crab salad / wonderfully prepared and tasty! I decided to try the lamb pie - talk about comfort food! Although really set up to give tourists the old "English pub field", it was a good time and good food. Frankly, I love the fact that restaurants and businesses in England are also dog friendly. So, OK this was a tad touristy but definitely worth a go!

Our room consisted of a double bedroom, a twin bedroom and an interconnecting kitchenette. It also had a shower room. Beds were very comfortable, rooms were spacious and the shared kitchen (in addition to the kitchenette in the room) contained breakfast foodstuffs. To top it off you wake up overlooking Watership down. What more could you ask for? Great value accommodation, would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to visit this area.

Sunday Breakfast, fairly busy so you would feel confident, poor presentation, sausage not great,…read moreeggs I kept moving fried, dried out and shameful. The black pudding was a dry as you like and almost hardened. The temperature was very good and in its defence the bacon was nice although some was rock solid from the heat drying it out like old leather. One member of staff a young lady with black hair and ponytail was jolly, friendly and talked to just about everyone, whilst all other staff and a chef that appeared had the faces of a funeral. CHEAP BUT NOT CHEERFUL...... Not going back

When someone books a table, it would help if a manager actually checked on the availability of…read moretables and confirmed the booking by making sure that an actual table would be available at the time of the diners' arrival. That way we wouldn't have to wait an hour (against my better judgement) while we watch other people who didn't make a reservation just walk in off the street and get seated in front of us, only for us to (once again) end up walking out and going somewhere else where the overworked carver doesn't have to slice off his stingy 3 slices of dried-out meat person-by-person for a queue which would take yet another hour to get through. Also the whole place is always full of steam and stinks like a rotting greenhouse. Some air conditioning or at least opening a window sometime might be useful. If anyone can sit through that stench without throwing-up during their meal, good on them. You might as well let people smoke indoors again because it would at least take the edge off it. I'm never going to eat in the Toby Carvery again, because the chance of actually getting fed there seems an impossibility nowadays. With this being the third time in the last year that my wife and I have walked out in disgust, and gone for a curry instead, I'd advise anyone thinking of eating in the Toby to just stay home and cook their own dinner. You'll at least have a decent amount of meat then and not feel the need to overdose on a mixture of stewed and dried-out vegetables that have sat under the heat lamps for way too long just to get your money's worth. And finally, although it doesn't matter to me anymore because I'm never going into the Toby again, the "sugar free Pepsi" needs to go. You can blame Jamie Oliver for that one rather than the Toby, but they could pay the extra sugar tax to keep punters happy instead of penny pinching on everything. On the plus side, the breakfast is decently priced and okay.
