I've been having my cars serviced at Royal South Toyota in Bloomington Indiana for over 4 years. Late 2020 is when I got my first Toyota; a 2019 Camry SE. I love the responsive, spirited ride that sports tuning gives me. And even though my first Toyota came from another, non-Toyota dealer, Royal South welcomed me and provided us fantastic service. In late 2022, I got curious about the new Camry hybrids with their very uniquely TOYOTA ECVT drive train. So, I test drove and traded for the 2023 Camry Hybrid SE Nightshade model. VERY nice ride. In the meantime, my lady starts looking for new vehicle options. She's really special. So I start showing her the Toyota Camry experience... 'cause she deserves some of the best things in life. As time goes by, she's impressed, but a little afraid of it (as one should be), so maybe she'll get something a little smaller. So, we're looking around wherever we go. And New year's eve comes around... and we're out car shopping. We walk in to one dealership and they have this beautiful 2025 Camry Hybrid XSE in the middle of the show room, like 3 cars deep from the door to outside. Don't you just love the way life can turn kind of magical sometimes? I mean, you still have to work out all the details to connect with reality, but somehow all the intent, understanding, trust, and motivation that drives these things just jiggles around and falls together so clearly. So, we're looking at all the sweet features on this lovely thing and I ask her if she'd like to test drive it. And right then, we did a lot of talking and negotiating between each other right there. And we test drove that car and bought it, right on the spot, two hours away from home. Back home in Bloomington, we sometimes long for a sentimental visit with our very nice dealer of origin, but Royal South Toyota provides our service with the highest level of professionalism and integrity. My wife and I have purchased 2 vehicles from Ed Morgan at Royal in the space of a year, and both were handled totally by text before we ever set foot in the dealership. Fair pricing and no BS add-ons. Recently had a small issue with my Tacoma. Wasn't something they normally see, so my salesman, the sales manager (Nick) and Ashton back in the body shop got involved. Exemplary service from all. What you buy isn't all that matters. It's also WHERE you buy. This Tacoma is my second Toyota from Royal, and won't be my last. And a special shout out to Ashton. She's an absolute treasure. I drive over an hour to deal with them because my local dealer adds $1100 to MSRP for some anti theft stickers and paint protection while the vehicle is still in transit. Den of Thieves. After having a windshield trim piece replaced only a couple of months ago, it flew off on I-70 near 465. "BANG!". I wasn't sure what happened until I got home. No biggy, I already had some other maintenance needs so I would have them replace it. Stuff happens, right? Nobody's perfect. They told me that since I didn't stop to retrieve the piece, they would have no idea what happened, and wanted to charge me another $498 to replace their shoddy work!!! (A year before, they wanted to charge me almost $900 for the same work. They said that the windshield had to come out; it didn't!). The maintenance guy on the phone, Bob, kept telling me "It's just policy..." and "It could have happened in a carwash!". He said that last part twice. So THEY are telling me that their maintenance is so bad that it won't withstand a carwash? Why didn't they say that BEFORE I paid for it the first time? How can they charge $170+/hr Labor for ridiculously inferior craftsmanship? Why are they treating a 13 year customer like a criminal? I don't care if I have to drive to Kentucky for my next maintenance, I will NEVER give Royal Toyota (or its ownership) another dime of my family's money. Completely disgusted. read more

I have a Gen 2 Prius. The AC failed. It has 318K kilometers (just under 200Kmi). It's a bit of a beater. The quote was $122 or $256, depending on the necessity of recharging the system. That's not for a repair, mind you. A bit salty in either case. But it was $122. They were honest about it; it was a minor repair. I give them points for honesty. Toyota as a manufacturer through its dealer network doesn't let customers have the engine codes that would allow them to diagnose the problems themselves. Only their dealers have these codes. This isn't Royal's problem, it's a monopolistic business model. Nonetheless, they were honest and fixed it. read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE! My car was in and out of the shop 6-7 times due to them not being able to do a simple paint job. My car still looks awful as well. They also used a broken fog light from my crash with out testing it so now I have a broken light which could have got fixed through insurance. They don't install parts well and there paint jobs suck. I called them about bringing in my Toyota for an estimate to sell it back, and they told me to bring it in and I could get a check that day. I wasn't going to sell it that very day, but I brought it in. Once I was there, Dave refused to give me an estimate unless I would sell that very day because "the prices change daily". What a joke, why the hell would I agree to sell it to them without even knowing what the estimate was? He assured me that Royal would give me the best price compared to the other dealers, ok how would I know without comparing? "No cost maintenance plan and Roadside Assistance. Every new Toyota comes with ToyotaCare, * a maintenance plan that covers normal factory scheduled service for 2 years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first, and 24 hour Roadside Assistance for 2 years, unlimited mileage." Thats on the Toyota website^^ so why did ROYAL TOYOTA lie to me and tell me it isnt free? ROYAL TOYOTA decided that it isnt their job to do any of my scheduled maintenance for free. They tried charging me for the FREE services. Then when I voiced my opinion, on how I was told I could take my BRAND NEW TOYOTA TO ANY-ANY TOYOTA to have scheduled maintenance and work done, the service writer guy made a huge deal about how its not free for them and their workers, and blah blah blah, trying to make me feel sorry for them to do their job, and to do my TOYOTACARE maintenance. I ended up telling them dont worry about it because clearly it was too hard for them to do. They don't give a crap about customers that have new vehicles, they just want to lie, scheme, and steal from people who have the free (to us) TOYOTACARE... I wonder how many people they've made pay for their FREE TOYOTACARE maintenance work. I hate living in this town and being a Toyota owner who is forced to take the vehicle every 5k miles to the local dealership. 1. A simple oil change takes 1+ hours 2. Need an oil change and tire rotation, be ready to wait around 2+ hours. 3. The cost in comparison to local shops is 1.5-2x the cost for the same service. 4. Be prepared to be approached 2-3 times to see if you want to trade/sell your vehicle or buy a new one. Yes the above is with an appointment. I can get similar service in 15-30 minutes elsewhere. When we took the vehicle back for further inspection the problem was made out to be our fault. $1400 for a tire they highly recommended and are worn out in under a years time. I always get my oil change here. I have a 2018 Prius Prime. I will say on Saturdays are walk ins only. COME EARLY before they open because there will be a LONG LINE. Like 2 hours early before store opens if you want to be first (so 6am). I camp in my car haha. Staff have always been nice and I've never had a problem. You can book appointments but they are always booked 2 weeks in advance. Sometimes they do forget to reset my sticker for new mileage reminders but other than that I can't complain. I went to go look at and buy a truck from there and they seemed nice at first until it came down to buy the truck. The salesman and general manager made me feel like the negotiations were a slap in the face. When I was still on a dealers plate and the truck started to have issues they refused to look at it and if they were able to look at it they wanted to charge a diagnostic fee and make me pay for it when I literally just signed the paperwork. My window jammed halfway down after work and wouldn't budge during winter. I called and the service department was already closed. The salesman said to bring it in first thing in the morning and they would fit me in. I drove right up to the service door and drove right in. They checked me in and it was finished in an hour even with at least 10 appointments in front of me. Only charged for labor which was great and very polite and nice staff. He preceded to purchase an OVERPRICED truck from here and now they don't want to fix an issue after just signing the paperwork. I purchased two new cars here. The first one, the salesman and I worked out a deal for my elderly in laws. When the papers were signed, he had added in an extra $3000 without telling them. When I called, his response was "well I got them to sign it". The second new car, the General Manager was a pompous and arrogant ass. He has all sorts of excuses and if you look at any replies, he always attacks the customer. I am sure he will say something like it was Covid or that I was mean. I had a very disappointing experience at Royal South Toyota. I live out of state 3 hours away and made plans to visit to see the vehicle I was interested in. I had spoken to a sales representative before making plans to go see the vehicle and was not told until the day of that I was not going to be able to buy the vehicle and take it home that day because it was a Saturday. They never told me this previously. I still decided to go up and see the vehicle. I made a very resonable offer on a very high mileage vehicle which I was ready to buy in that moment. The vehicle had been on the lot for over 3 months and I had done my research. They said that they would not budge on the price. So I walked away. That following Monday they contacted me saying they would come down on the price. It wasn't far enough for me so I said no. Then they contacted me the next day, and the day after that until they came down to the price I was willing to pay. They went back and forth between a sales manager and the salesman. One would blame the other for not knowing the procedures for out of state vehicles and for pricing. I agreed to buy the vehicle if they fixed some issues and did alignment work. They agreed but then were all over the place about my financing and told me 2 days before I was going to pick it up that they would not accept a personal check from me. I had to have a direct check. They could have told me this way beforehand. That caused me not to be able to get the vehicle before I was leaving for a 2 week vacation. So they agreed to keep it since I gave a deposit. The morning I returned I contacted them and told them I was coming. I had previously told them I would get the vehicle that week sometime. When I got there they did not have a print out or proof that they had done all the work they said they would and they did not have both keys they told me they had for the vehicle. They said the could not find the other key. I told them they needed to order one for me because they had said they had 2. They said it was too expensive. I had to negociate with the salesmanager who was extremely rude. I told him I needed another key as promised and them to pay for the work they promised they would complete. He said no and continued to be extremely rude. Finally, they agreed to write a check but they would have to send it in the mail since it was late in the day. I am surprised they sent the check. The amount was for the key and the work they could not prove that they had done. This whole process took a very long time and both my partner and I felt that the staff was extremely rude and unkind. They did not want to sell this vehicle it seems as they tried not to multiple times and never went out of the way for me. In the end they gave me money so much that it equaled the low number I first offered for the car the first day I went to see it. They could have sold it that day for the first price I offered. They were extremely unprofessional. All of the staff I dealt with! Their sales technic was terrible. They should have communicated upfront all of the requirements for an out of state sale. They should have had everything ready when I went to finish the sale and pick up the vehicle because they had 2 weeks to do so. Their attitude about the whole transaction should have been positive instead of hostile. For a Toyota dealership this was all very disappointing and I would expect better out of the sales staff. They seemed annoyed that I was a good negotiator, (which is part of what I do for a living), and that I was educated. This vehicle was not a popular one due to the high mileage and they could have saved several weeks of a headache if they had sold it to me the first time I went up there. I do not recommed buying anything from this place. I wish I had not bought my vehicle from them because it was such a bad experience. My first visit they told us they would top it off with gas and when I went to get it they said they don't do that for used vehicles. Stay away. read more

Royal South likes to degrade and reprise against its customers by saying they have "hate" which is farthest from the truth. 1 in 3 reviews of the dealership is a negative comment of their business practices. Further when they were given the information on what I needed to purchase the item they were far from helpful. They are curt, flippant, and uncooperative. When the item was finally able to be purchased they were spiteful and acted with reprisal due to their unprofessional nature. Ebay is also investigating the transaction as their unethical practices violate their seller guidelines. They have an ebay store to sell parts to float the company. They absolutely have no understanding for "things happen" and "special circumstances". Entire process i was arguing with someone(s) that just didn't want to understand my situation and it was "someone else's" fault. Just own it. Then to add to it, when i was finally able to get the items ordered on ebay because of how they had the listing was created, they cancel the order saying it's not available but the item is still up now with a higher price. I had heard horror stories about this place while I was an undergrad but a coworker encouraged me to try them. I have no idea what the horror stories were about. We had a totally great buying experience. They did not talk down to me even though I, as a woman, was the one financing and purchasing the vehicle. This is, sadly, not uncommon. Dave was chill and helpful. They made sure my toddler was not completely unhinged. Start to finish? Less than 2 hours to buy a car and it was a steal of a deal. They leveled with us and did a great job of making sure they could get us something we'd love. 10/10 would recommend. I do not use the service department or I would never buy the car from them either. They have a bad reputation with service. They always try to sell you stuff you don't need or they just say that your brakes need to be replaced even though they don't or your tires need to be replaced even when they don't because I've taken it to other places and they said no you don't need them replaced, I would try and avoid this place for service at all possible. as for the sales department in buying a car I would never buy a car here because they mark up their cars 2 to $5000 over sticker because they can't get any cars I would recommend you going elsewhere either up to Indianapolis or south toward Kentucky. The only thing I would highly recommend here is their body shop their body shop does a wonderful job, I have used them three times and I've been very satisfied with their work read more

BEWARE of unethical business practices in the service department! After being a loyal Royal South customer for over 15 years, I brought my Prius in for a replacement of the electronics controlling the odometer. They returned my car showing 36,000 fewer miles on my odometer, proven by the oil change sticker in the window with the correct mileage. When I brought it to their attention, Sam Meyer in the service department said he could just print me a new oil change sticker reflecting the "new" odometer reading. I was completely appalled by this. This is considered odometer tampering and is ILLEGAL. I insisted they replace the part with the corrected mileage. When they did, they badly cracked my dashboard and GLUED it back together without even mentioning it when I picked it up! They had also failed to fix the parking light which they had claimed to have fixed 3 separate times. I do not want them to ever touch my vehicle again. We let them know we were going to report them to the Attorney General Consumer Protection division for unethical business practices including odometer fraud and Chris Stucky, the head of the service department told my husband "You won't have any proof, it will be he said/ she said." I bought a car there several years ago. While the car is still fantastic (I love Toyotas!), the buying experience was absolutely horrible. The dealer lied to me multiple times, I waited over 10 weeks for the car that was supposed to arrive in 2. I was buying the car for myself, with my own money. My husband came with me for company. 2 employees (the dealer and the finance guy) kept talking to my husband and referring to me as "she" even though he told them multiple times he wasn't the one buying the car. Back then they offered free manicures for "the ladies" once per week. Instead they could just treat the ladies like humans... I really should have walked out, but I was desperate for the car after 10 weeks wait. Stay away from this place! read more

Have used this dealership for years without any complaints, however over the past week I've had nothing but trouble: when they changed the cabin filter they didn't align the glove compartment properly so it couldn't be closed. I called the customer rep, he apologized and said they would fix it when I brought my car back in the next week for scheduled work. I had to order a door panel and a passenger side window to be replaced, paid for the parts ahead of time, and brought the car in to have the work done when the parts arrived. Ed called me later on that day to tell me all the work was done and everything worked fine. I asked if the glove compartment now closed and he said yes, all was done. However when I arrived at the dealership Sam Meyer, the customer rep said unfortunately they had sent the wrong window, driver side instead of passenger side, and I would have to make another appointment, but I wouldn't have to pay for labor since it all should have been done at same time. Annoying enough, but when I went to pay for the labor that day, I noticed the charge for the parts I had already paid for was on the bill. Sam the customer rep went to investigate and told them I had already paid for it, but I had to repeat the story to the cashier who had to go and ask Sam again. So it seems that the well oiled machinery at Royal South Toyota is experiencing some hiccups, manager needs to follow up on processes and perhaps new staff, but with all this Sam must be commended, he did a really good job trying to mitigate a bad situation. read more

The people who work here are pieces of shit and have absolutely no respect of anyone else's time or money. I have been trying to get in for two weeks to get my car fixed and these people have been giving me the runaround and telling lies every time I would call them and ask why my parts weren't in yet. Finally I just sent an email stating that I was going to go with a different collision shop and of course JEFF MAYS decides that NOW he can finally answer a damn email, and basically tells me to go F myself. I was supposed to go in months ago to get it fixed but no one ever contacted me and let me know that my parts were in, so being the smart, savvy, logical business that they are, they simply sent back my parts and never even let me know that they had them in the first place. I called them 4 hours after I dropped off my car and they haven't looked at my vehicle. I was told to make an appointment next time so they could make time to look at my vehicle. The service department workers must be trained to leave things not done, or not worry about damage to people's property. The staff that great you, take your keys, your information, etc. are mostly grumpy and don't look happy to be at work (with the exception of one or two). After having owned a Corolla for many years, I stopped taking it to Toyota, for fear of being told things were "broken" that weren't, or being way overcharged for things I could have easily done at home myself. I now own a Scion, and after taking it in for a routine oil change, will NEVER return for ANY type of business at Toyota. My oil was changed, and my 15 point check was "done." I got my car back, but my "brake" light continued to come on. I asked a mechanically inclined family member about this and he told me to check the brake fluid. I thought it was a crazy idea, considering they just did their check if everything at Toyota when they changed my oil, but he insisted and sure enough, BONE DRY! I have since been told that this could have caused brake failure, and in turn harm to myself or others. After returning to Toyota to speak with their service manager, he tried to blame it on the fact that my car is a "rebuilt title" vehicle, and they don't work on those, so they couldn't be responsible. I explained that no one had made me aware of this policy PRIOR to my leaving my vehicle with them the MANY times I had previously, until just now, when there happened to be an issue. And regardless, the condition of my car had nothing to do with the fact that the sheet of paper given to me after my oil change clearly had a check mark next to "brake fluid filled" and it was not done. The manager would not take responsibility, nor would he make any amends for their dishonesty, their mistake, or their lack of concern for my safety and the safety of others on the road. I was having issues with paint delamination on the hood of my RAV 4. Denny, in the collision department, provided me with a quote quickly. It was going to cost almost $1K to match my paint and correct the problem. Originally, I was told that it wasn't covered under warranty. However, Toyota's corporate office came through. And the staff and collision repair guys at Royal South made my experience as painless and effortless as possible. I brought my car in. They gave me a great loaner car to use for three days. My RAV was ready when they said it would be ready. And the clincher... I DID NOT PAY A DIME. Toyota (corporate) and Royal South Toyota have my business for life. They stand behind their product 100%. If I could give zero stars, I would. What we find here at Royal South is a dealership who has no idea of what the phrase, "The customer is always right" means. For instance, on Saturday they offer a free car wash to purchasers; however, if there's even a HINT of a sprinkle in the air they will refuse to wash your car. I know very well. I always call in first and verify with the service department if the car wash is on or off. Today at 1:30 it was ON. I thanked the service guy and drove over. When I arrived ten minutes later an employee was outside on a smoke break. It was not raining. It was threatening by a sprinkling however, so? Car wash OFF. Looking inside, an employee was washing a serviced car. I said "You've washed cars inside on Saturdays in the past on CLEAR DAYS, what's wrong with today? Reply? "We don't wash cars when it's raining." "Well," I said, "it's merely sprinkling now" I told him. "The service man said I could come over and you would wash my vehicle, and so I believed him. Am I not to believe anything you tell me?" If this sounds like a rant over a trivial matter, I concur! However, the more important lesson to be learned here is that they didn't own up to what their employee had told me, a customer. Their arrogance and wholehearted refusal to budge an inch gives greater insight to their overall commitment to REFUSE customer service whenever they choose, not to mention go the extra yard! Keep that in mind when it comes time to make your future car purchase. Their low rating is well-earned. Oh, and by the way, the affiliated dealership, Royal on the East Side is even worse, if that can be believed. Stay away from them both. You'll thank me. read more
