Gate A Wish sent a technician out the next day. He opened the control panel, spent 10 minutes checking some things, then quoted me a price that was literally 3 times what other companies quoted. When I told him I still had another company coming the next day for a quote, and that I'd be in touch either way, he asked me what price I had in mind. I told him the price I'd been quoted by others. He said he'd talk to the office to see if they could give me a better price. He stepped away for a few minutes and came back and said that the company has a deal on Yelp where customers who have big projects get a $100 discount if they leave a good review. I also picked a small profile gate motor with the help of Sam (owner) allowing to have maximum parking, as I have two trucks I park in the rear. I then had a front entry gate custom made. I had it powdered coated which, made the gate a little expensive but, it is drop dead gorgeous. They pre fitted the unit to minimize scratching before having it powder coated. What impressed me was that Sam called me in the middle to tell me he was starting my door over because, he was not impressed with how the gate had been constructed and had to replace the individual that had done the original attempt. It was worth the extra wait, as I I am very particular. I made a prior attempt several years ago to have this gate created that supposedly the top semi circle potion was imported from England. However, they brought the gate out laying on a flat bed truck and the paint was scratched all over and I observed hair and dust lumps in the paint . I stopped them at that point and told the owner to take it back and to have it sandblasted and powder coated and he refused. I had told him up front that I am very particular and this was to be my front entry gate and it had to look perfect . So I did not get my gate at that time. Great Job, Sam

The woman working the phones was very professional and booked a two hour window for the visit. The tech showed up on time, and was friendly. He took a 30 second look at the motor and said, "it's no good. You need to replace." I figured we were going to have to replace it, so I asked how much the job would be. He said, "you have three choices: okay, good, or very good. Okay is $1100, good is $1300, very good is $1500. The good and very good come with warrantee." He told me the job would take 90 minutes. All of these quotes seemed VERY high to me. Home Advisor says that the average charge for a garage door opener is $218-$511, and you should expect to pay about $65 an hour for labor. So even at a premium, anything over $1000 seemed like I was getting ripped off. That said, I need my garage door to open, so I told the tech I would do the $1300 option. The tech did the work in 90 minutes, as promised. The opener worked well. Then he gave me an invoice for $1600! I told him that he had quoted me $1300, and he told me that was just for the opener, not the labor. I told him that he quoted me $1300 and that's what I would pay. He told me he would call his boss and see what he could do. I heard him tell his boss that the customer was complaining about the cost and what could he do. The boss lowered it to $1450. I paid it, but I was (and am) very upset about what seemed to be a sketchy way of doing business. I looked up the model online, and it was listed on Amazon for less than $200, so it seems like the opener they installed is likely not a premium product.
