I've been in this Rubio's a handful of times over the past year as it's super close to Pickleball Kingdom where my family has been playing every so often... Awhile back, I was pleased to see they had a cauliflower rice option, which I appreciated, but it seems that the menu has since been updated and no longer includes this option. On a recent visit, I ordered a Baja Chicken Burrito with shrimp instead of chicken. The cashier was super accommodating and understood my order, repeated it back to me, etc... but then I heard the manager loudly explaining to her that she should not be making such requests as subbing shrimp for chicken. For what it's worth, I paid double the price of the burrito due to my modification and was okay with it. When the manager handed me my order, he said "just to confirm you wanted shrimp instead of chicken, not both, correct?" and I said yes - that's correct. He then handed me my food to-go and I went on my way. I broke into my burrito a bit later only to find it did have both chicken and shrimp... so much for my request! I think all Rubio's locations have a salsa bar, but at this particular location, it seems it isn't super clean and I've also noticed the trash cans are pretty full. They may be understaffed and I know I shouldn't be picky about this type of "fast casual food," but my visits here definitely could've been better. I will not be rushing back. read more

Came here with coworkers after a mud run. Never been to Rubio but it was really good and after getting dirty and muddy and that exercise boy was the food hitting the spot. I got the coastal three tacos because I couldn't make up my mind with chips and beans and a churro. All of it was so good cost almost 25 bucks with my drink as well. To be honest, I probably could've done without the chips and beans. After doing my mud run I just felt super hungry . And all three tacos were delicious. One was salmon I think. One was fried fish and one was shrimp. All the salsa's tasted different than other Rubio's, not in a good way. The beans were bland compared to other Rubio's.

My wife and I stopped at this Rubio's on a Friday (today) during Lent at 4 PM for fish tacos. I am originally from Denver and was a huge fan of Rubio's in Denver until they closed. So, I was excited to find a Rubio's 3 miles from my house in Phoenix. We ordered our normal 5 fish tacos with no sauce. We ate them in the restaurant. The person who took our order was wonderful. She double checked the order and everything was good. She brought the tacos to the table with the chips and we helped ourselves to the salsa bar. Love all of the salsa varieties. The issue: 4 of the 5 fish in the fish tacos were room temperature (between cold and barely warm). The 5th one was hot. I do not know what your strategy is for cooking to order or what your holding (and keep food hot) strategy is if you are not cooking to order? I know your tipping strategy is to tip upfront before you receive the product at your table. I did and Rubio's is now do not tip in advance policy. I will try Rubio's one more time in the near future. I will ask the cashier what the cook to order or cook to keep hot strategy is. If they cannot answer the question, I will walk out. If the strategy is reasonable; I will try it again. Hopefully it will be hot. The fish tacos were always hot in Denver. So, I know you can do better. In a time where input costs are going up, inflation is high, and consumers need to be careful about how we spend our dollars, I want Rubio's to be successful. Mmmmk Rubio's! I had a hankering for some quick coastal Mexican food and they didn't disappoint! As vegetarians sometimes options can be limited, but there were lots to choose from and customize here. The inside of this location was clean, customer service was pleasant, food was fresh and made to order. We had "veggie burrito especials" that were scrumptious! I like Rubio's Costal Grill. They make the food fast and I can get home too eat it quick. I had the yummy lobster taco that tasted delicious and buttery. It was one of those meals where I needed lots of napkins. The lobster meat itself has a very light flavor. Sometimes with good lobster meat I can't really taste a distinct flavor at all. My meal included a choice of two sides. I ended up getting a couple small containers, one with rice and another with beans. To me, the beans had a smoky flavor. I wanted to confirm the taste. At other restaurants their beans didn't taste smoke too me. Their rice was alright. I didn't think they tasted smoky. I did see that they had black beans, chips, and citrus rice as alternate options. I am interested in trying the citrus rice and maybe the black beans the next time I go. For an additional charge of a dollar you could choose the cauliflower rice. There was also Mexican street corn for fifty cents extra. I am not a big fan of corn tortillas so will need to remember to change out my order to have all flour tortillas instead. read more

I go to this location weekly and I am familiar with most of the employees. Recently, an unfamiliar face started working there. She was very disrespectful and I asked for her name, Trinity. I understand it's hard at a new job but this crossed the line from being nervous to utter disrespect. She paused mid taking my order to go flirt with her coworker and then proceeded to give me attitude whilst taking the order. I am beyond disappointed from the service I received at a usually friendly business. I have never experienced such terrible attitude from an employee in my life! read more

Love that you can order through Ubereats and still select what you want from the salsa bar as that's what makes the meal! Love the ability to order impossible meat and hope it stays on the menu. So I don't normally eat at Rubio's but I saw Richard Blais's mug plastered all over the doors at this Rubio's while walking to Sumo Snow in the same plaza. I thought, OK, let's see what Richard Blais sold his culinary soul to The Corporate Devil to make! After seeing him on the latest season of Top Chef as a judge, perhaps he needed that extra money to satisfy his hair gel addiction. The Blais tres tacos special consists of a Buffalo chicken, AKA Blaised and Glazed, Hula Hula Carnitas and Ancho Po'Boy Shrimp. The chicken and shrimp come on a double layer of grilled flour tortilla while the carnitas comes with corn. Several thoughts went through my head as I waited for this meal both about the tacos and Richard Blais himself. Would I be Blaised and Confused by this meal? Would the food go down in a Blais of glory? Or is Chef a trail-Blaiser by collaborating with Rubio's? The vibe here wasn't the cheeriest nor did they provide the fastest service. Eventually my tacos were ready and they were securely packaged in a paper based container. I think due to Covid concerns they've retired the salsa bar for now but you do have the option of getting some small sauce containers of mild, green/tomatillo, chipotle and/or picante. It was odd that I couldn't find a detailed description of the taco ingredients on the actual Rubio's website. I had to find them on other sites so according to Chewboom.com (Gotta love that name btw): "Hula Hula Carnitas: Inspired by Chef Blais' time in Hawaii, the Hula Hula Carnitas taco features pork marinated in a rich blend of gochujang, achiote, and garlic, wrapped in a banana leaf and slow-cooked, creating tender, juicy meat with an authentic Hawaiian Kalua flavor. It is served on a stone ground corn tortilla with mango salsa and garnished with black sesame seeds, cotija cheese and a slice of lime. Blaised & Glazed Crispy Chicken: Offering a tangy, zesty taco twist on Buffalo chicken, the Blaised & Glazed taco starts with Rubio's crispy chicken tossed in Frank's RedHot sauce and served on a warm flour tortilla with shredded cabbage, homemade ranch sauce, and house pickled celery and jalapeño, garnished with cotija cheese and celery seed. The tacos weren't Blaisin' hot, maybe a medium spice level. Out of the three I probably enjoyed the flavors of the shrimp taco the most. The shrimp were a tad overcooked though and I didn't taste much of the ancho chile. The carnitas was too salty for me and my toddler who is a mango fiend didn't even like the mango salsa on top. She picked it all off, put it on my plate, pointed to me and said "Eat!" That little taskmaster! The chicken tacos tasted exactly like Buffalo chicken as described, but for me, is there any benefit in eating Buffalo chicken as a taco vs. eating it just by itself? For me there really wasn't any at least. As for the taco tortillas, the flour ones were nicely toasted but the corn tortillas tasted a bit tough and old. The meal came with an ample bounty of light crispy chips and warm bean dip which was a nice accompaniment to the tacos. Be sure to redeem the Yelp check in offer for $2 off this meal (As of 8-2021) if you go here! I totally forgot to check Yelp and I had already paid when I saw that check in offer. For me, the verdict is that the tacos are just OK. Maybe I'd try them again if I were Blaised but for now there are other culinary creations to try out! read more

UPDATE: I went back a second time and everything was phenomenal, in fact I mis-ordered a few items and the team lead made it right. I have nothing bad to say about this location. Great food, great customer service, clean restaurant. Originally 4 stars bumped to 5 stars. My original experience with Rubios was over 30 years ago while serving in the Navy. Upon stepping into this location I was impressed by how Rubios had expanded its menu since then, but I was a bit concerned by how long it took for an employee to acknowledge I was there. It took so long that I looked around to see if I needed to place my order via kiosk. Finally, an older gentleman walked over and took my order. I remembered how good the fish tacos were, so they were the obvious choice, I got 3 of them and a drink. I waited about 5 minutes, the tacos came out fresh and hot...now for the taste test. The first bite took me back to the days of a 20 something year old sailor, these tacos were amazing!!! I devoured them so quickly that I thought about ordering a few more. I gave 4 stars due to the time I waited for someone to recognize me, but I'll definitely be back. The restaurant was clean and the tacos were very very good. Highly recommend. read more

I've forgotten his name but he greeted every person who walked in, gave suggestions on the menu when people looked like they were having a hard time deciding, He ran completed orders out to tables in the lulls of taking orders at the front and was all around a nice guy! I had their new Argentinean chipotle honey shrimp bowl which was top ten I ever had with nice plump shrimp rice, beans and fresh Haas avocado. The fish taco was the best I had this year. Fresh and Delicious Rubio's Costal Grill is always a good choice for a fresh and tasty meal. If you have not tried Rubios original fish tacos you really should. The fish tacos are delicious and loaded with fresh ingredients. I like to add a lillte spice to my tacos by adding jalapeño and hot salsa. If you don't like fish tacos, Rubio's offers street tacos, quesadillas, burritos and salads. My family enjoys the quesadillas, and the burritos which are big and very tasty. Rubio's hit the right spot. They are very tasty and reasonably priced. I would recommend this restaurant for quick but tasty meal. read more

For years I used to order from Guadalupe and McClintock location and always had their chop salad for $8. It was delicious. I moved and I haven't been in a while and so I stopped by the Ray and rural location and ordered the same chop salad with shrimp. It now costs $12.99. It took 10 minutes to receive my order. It was terrible. It was a bunch of lettuce with barely any cheese and one teaspoon of pico de gallo. They put the dressing on the side. I couldn't believe that was all to the salad so I went back to look at the menu and they omitted the tortilla chips because they were still cooking and it would take another two minutes. It seems like something else was missing because it was so plain. I might try another location, but will not be back to this one. read more

The DoorDash or stole my food and they told me I would get a refund which I have yet to get at this point after looking at my bank. When I asked what kind of procedure they get these people kicked off through DoorDash so they don't do this to others again they said they don't know anything that they can do which is sad since they are using these people to deliver their food also told that if I don't get my refund on my gift card that I used I would have to go inside the store to be able to get my store credit. Yesterday I tried the shrimp quesadilla and I was very underwhelmed. It was nasty at all but it lacked shrimp, the key ingredient. I may have had a total of 7 shrimp which means one of my slices only had 1 shrimp. It was the second piece that I ate and it literally only had 1. How disappointing. I would recommend if you have one, ask Ted to make it because he gives you food. I've been to other locations where you get a sprinkle of this and that....not worth the money...but Ted definitely takes care Of you and gives you your moneys worth, not sprinkles of rice and guac. My friend had her favorite salsa verde tacos and she said they were super delish! I'm always trying to compare apples to apples, so don't confuse fast-casual with full service, this is a "listen for your number to be called" kinda joint. I love Rubios food and especially their shrimp tacos, except for this past week. I came in for the Mexican Street Corn ShrimpTacos (which I adore) and could barely find the shrimp. They were the size of Oregon tiny shrimp. You can see in the photo that the lime wedge is larger than the shrimp. The taco was covered with more than usual sauce I think to disguise what you were lacking inside. This visit I ordered 3 tacos and paid $16. I expect their normal size shrimp for $5/taco. Sometimes this location can just slightly undercook the shrimp too where it's still transparent, not opaque. Haven't gotten sick yet when that's happened, just feel more comfortable cooked a minute longer. read more

This isn't my favorite location of Rubio's. It's okay but not the best location because of the quality of the food. On my last visit I ordered the Burrito Especial with Grilled All Natural Chicken. The Burrito Especial is supposed to have handmade guacamole, citrus rice, black beans, lettuce, roasted chipotle salsa, salsa fresca and chipotle sauce. Sounds delicious right?! I received a burrito with mainly citrus rice and lots of sauce/salsa. There was hardly any chicken in there, hardly any black beans. This was only my second time trying the Burrito Especial with Grilled Chicken. My first time trying was at a different location and I enjoyed it more there.
