I've been getting seafood here for almost 3 decades. Normally they haven't let me down however I've been disappointed in the service not once but twice in the past 8 years. One thing I have a problem with is their hours. On Fridays, one of their busiest days, I like to get here before the crowd and arrived here before 5pm on a couple of occasions only to be told that they're not open yet and open at 5:30pm which is contrary to what Google says. I just went to another place for seafood because I was hungry and didn't feel like waiting an extra 30-45 minutes for them to open. There wasn't a crowd like I had expected. I've noticed how much their prices have risen. I just wish the bald lady at the counter provided more friendlier service because she was rude. I was told my order would be ready in 30 minutes. When my order was ready i had asked the lady where the tartar sauce was and she gave me an attitude and tried to argue with me. There's a lot of competition besides Rudy's like Gyro's, J Anthony's, Arredondo's , Sea Island and Capn Jim's. If I gotta spend at least $20 on a seafood platter and a sweet tea then I better get some better service. read more

A two-filet dinner comes with cole slaw, fries, tartar sauce, white bread and (the best part) hush puppies! My partner and I could have shared this meal if we had gotten a larger plate. Rudy's is unpretentious: order at the counter, and they'll make your food fresh. A lot of people were getting orders to go, but we sat down and ate there. We had leftovers. I would not recommend the lunch specials because for just a couple dollars more you'll get way more food. read more

This is my go-to spot after finishing a round of golf at Riverside but since Riverside has been closed for renovations, I decided to stop by anyway to get my fried fish fix (nice use of alliteration there). I picked a good time to stop by as a dinner rush has just finished so there was no wait time to order. I kept it simple with a two-piece fish dinner with fries. The order was ready in about 15 minutes. I decided to dine in so I could enjoy the meal more quality it was still hot and crunchy. The fish was fried a golden brown with a crunchy outside but also moist and tender on the inside the fries were the same. With a little lemon juice and tartar sauce I was elbows deep in the food. Overall, I have never had a bad experience here and now that the golf course is about to reopen, I'll be here more often. Salud! read more

I haven't been to Rudy's Seafoos in years I grew up on Theo & Malone and seen it move several times. I was in the neighborhood and told a friend to join me. Had the lunch special 1 fish & 2 shrimp $11.99 with a drink & fries. I could just tell by the color of the crust it wasn't the same, very bland, the shrimp was ok. It came with 1 tartar sauce and no cocktail sauce. I had to ask ask for a cocktail sauce and I went ahead and asked for another tarter they wanted to charge me $.75, luckily my friend gave me his. I probably will never return, J Anthony's by far is better. I would be very surprised if this place survives with all the better choices out there, sorry but I was very disappointed. Pretty good deals, too. All deals about $12, includes your drink. We ordered : me, the two filet, three oyster and two shrimp plate. Still served with fries, hush puppies, two slices of white bread and the 'sample cup' of Cole slaw. The husband ordered the two filet and two shrimp plate. The food doesn't change and that's a good thing. The shrimp are large and splayed. The filets are a generous size. Tartar sauce and cocktails sauce are available, as are hot sauce, ketchup and lemon juice packets. One lady was taking care of orders and bussing the tables. Doing a great job, while remaining friendly and joking around. We admired each other's short haircuts and how easy they are to maintain. Ha, ha. The outside walls still honor the Spurs. Several TVs on the inside walls. This was a good visit. Go there. read more

Rudy's was, at one time, our go-to fish restaurant, and we've been customers for at least 25-30 years. Unfortunately, at our visit today we were disappointed to learn that the Rudy's that was near and dear to our hearts is no longer the place that we would hanker for as we moved in and out of Texas. To begin with the soda dispensers weren't working and all that was offered was ice tea. Secondly, my wife had to use the ladies room but was disgusted by the fact that water was seeping out from under the toilet bowl, and there was no a/c or ventilation. We had noticed that over time the food portions have become smaller and smaller, but the prices have increased, and that amenities (Cole slaw, hush puppies, etc.) were either overly priced for very small portions, or nonexistent. All of the food I've tried has been served hot, fresh, and delicious. They still follow covid protocols with lines and spacing. Staff wear masks. The to-go plates are packed nicely in paper bags with plenty of tartar sauce and lemon wedges. Each plate is full and leave you feeling full and happy. Food was what I expected. Lots of fried everything. Your order at the counter and they call your name when ready. I had the fish sandwich with onion rings, a side of hush puppies and a side of coleslaw. I had the regular fish sandwich and it was crazy big. I can imagine what the large one looks like. I didn't really think it was anything special. It was a fish sandwich. I had to add tartar sauce for a little flavor. The hush puppies were ok. The coleslaw was probably the best thing I had there. It was creamy with just the right amount of sweetness. The onion rings were huge and nicely breaded. When you order, you may definitely believe it's pricy, but keep in mind that the servings are large and can be shared. Looks like they can get real busy. Seating is first come first serve. We wanted catfish and saw the good ratings for Rudy's came in and went up to the counter and was looking at the menu as this was my first time here. They did not have any catfish so we decided to give them a try. The lady at the register just said what do we want to order, no greeting I let here know it was our first time and wanted to look at the menu. She walked away. We order the number 2 special, when we got our plate all the food was hot, but the fish was not crispy and very light and had a very funny taste to it. They had Pepsi product but I was okay as I say in the menu they had big red, they were out of big red so was disappointed as I did not like the other drinks, the bread was very soft. Was there on Saturday and the fish had an unusual fishy smell and taste, although was piping hot and freshly fried. I could get past the unsavory taste. Rudy's was our favorite but the last two times the fish was awful. The business is empty now when in the old days was standing room only. What a shame. We would drive 25 minutes to get there when asked if they changed fish she denied it. There was a steady pace of customers, so it was apparent this is a popular location. Went there for lunch today to see what the hype was about. The lady behind the counter, Barbara, took my order and said it would take 25 minutes. It looked like they only had one cook! I paid $17 for a shrimp burger and fries and a drink, or so I thought. I looked at my receipt and noticed that it did not include a drink! I paid an additional $3.24 for a drink. After 25 minutes my food was ready. Fries were limp and not fresh. The shrimp burger had no taste. I asked for cocktail sauce and was told I'd have to pay for it. No thank you! They give you tartar sauce but you don't eat shrimp with tartar sauce! This place is all hype! I won't go back. Let's start by saying that Rudy's gets high marks for a clean and tidy facility with an updated interior. They obviously spent time making the place feel well-put-together. The food: I was thoroughly excited, as I'd heard nothing but good things. The fish was lukewarm and under-seasoned. It tasted and smelled healthy, just no seasoning. The fries were unimpressive, yet warm and crunchy. They too needed salt. The shrimp was flayed so it was wide, which is a fine strategy for ensuring it's not over cooked. It was seasoned well. The okra was a 6/10, not mushy, yet not crunchy or crispy enough for the adequate bite and also lacked seasoning. The hush puppies were on the dry side and lacked flavor. I want a seafood-packed hush puppy that's light, moist, and flavorful. The coleslaw was a disappointment: it was old. Yes, old. Mind you, we were there at lunch rush on a weekend. It was obviously from the day before or older. It started to develop that limp look, soggy bite, and slightly unfresh flavor. It sat for long enough for the moisture to escape the cabbage and water down the dressing. I want to give Rudy's another chance because the word-of-mouth praise was high enough to induce salivation at the thought of "delicious, authentic Gulf seafood." Afterthought: Get rid of the styrofoam! Give us some reusable plates, sheets of newspaper-like paper, or anything that's less harmful to the environment, please. read more
