The lift with the slow tubes
    Bar R.

We went tubing in a group of 3, and it was very fun and a little scary. The bigger, harder yellow tubes were super fast :) and thrilling, and we went down 1 run and they took them from us and we got baby tubes in duller colors. They said they were too fast :/ The mechanical lift up the hill was the scariest part, that thing is frightening and I can't look down it because it's steep. They do stop it if you fall though :) I know from experience. That's wonderfully safe and embarrassing: There's an option to rent a little igloo you can sit in and make marshmallow s'mores for $500, but I didn't find that it was so cold we needed that this time of year. Food and lemonade available, but they charge you $7 for NO ICE that's mean considering they know we are cold.

For the first year, my girlfriend, my best friend, and her son (my nephew), decided to start a family tradition of renting a cabin and heading to the winter park to go tubing! When we arrived, we had to sign release forms and get our tickets! The release forms weren't too long, just sign your name and enter your address. When we got through, we grabbed some tubes and started going down the hills! There are a variety of hills, from kids to like expert level hills! They were all so much fun! The ground is pretty slippery and I know it's artificial snow but it's still very cold in that part of the mountain so make sure you dress warm! I can't wait to come back next year with my family because it was such a fun time!

Make sure you get here early when it opens. It opens up at nine in the morning and you can ride the rides pretty much back to back. However by noon you'll be standing in line for 30 to 40 minutes and it doesn't get better throughout the day. There is food on site and most importantly they have funnel cakes. You can bring food in and there are picnic tables set up. If you are so inclined you can rent a personal heated cabana. Your tickets come in three hour increments so make sure you come early to get the most out of your time.

Had a great summer experience with my son there. Spent ~$180 for 4 trips down the mountain coaster, 2 trips on the zipline, and 2 hours on the tube slope. The pricing is what I would expect of a small town attraction. Access for tubing and zipline lines went pretty quick. The mountain coaster line took us between 30 minutes to 70 minutes, so I do not recommend doing the $65 special for 2 hours of everything because you'll spend most of that time in line. Buy the mountain coaster tickets separately. Food in the park was delicious. I highly recommend the carne asada fries.

Unforgettable day of fun. Staff was super kind. Purposely went on a Monday to avoid the crowds and get all day tubing for the same price. Get ready for a lot of walking to reach the different hills, but totally worth the experience. Come prepared to make beautiful lasting family memories.

    Best Day Ever!

I do not know where to start with this. Kay, Jovian and all of the staff at Winter Park is absolutely fabulous! My son had his lower leg amputated back in May due to Ewing's Sarcoma. He really wanted to play in the snow for Christmas. So we made the trip from Texas to Ruidoso hoping for some snow time. Unfortunately 2021 has decided that it's not going to snow. But fortunately Winter Park was open with snow!!! Kay welcomed us with open arms and blew us away with her hospitality! The entire staff went above and beyond to make sure my son and his cousins had the time of their lives! Jovian assisted my son on the slopes bringing such joy! I was worried how I would hold up pulling and carrying my child around the park on snow. But the staff took that burden off me and my family and assisted him. He never left that tube! I am so very grateful for all the staff here! You made a beautiful day for my son and my family! We cannot wait to go back! Thank you!

We drove from Austin to Ruidoso, so we could play in the snow. So happy that this place is here. The kids has a blast. We bought the three hour passes. The lines were long, but moved rather quickly. We were there for about 2 1/2 hours, and that included a run on the zip line. Plenty of fun for all ages.

One section of the tube lanes, there were about 8-10 lanes in total.

It's super cold here but with thermal wear it was much better ! The view going up was beautiful! I don't know how to add videos here but it was breathtaking! It takes a little bit of time going up but it's worth it! The place had clean restrooms and a restaurant at the top of you get hungry but you can also bring your own food and kind of picnic at the tables there instead of buying food. The skiing was so fun here & I recommend it

*BEWARE!!!!!! The GM…read moreKen Marlatt is letting this once great mountain with so much potential rot away. It seems he only wants to make money ripping off unsuspecting tourists and making it unaffordable for locals and even lots of tourist. Ski Apache price increase is unfair for the product they offer. I asked on social media a few times (Facebook) why the increase only to be blocked from viewing the page entirely. Seems very unfair/shady of them to do this for asking a simple question. I've never seen any other ski resorts block customers for asking questions like "why the price increase of $60-105 this season." *Some things for people to know before going* -Prices have gone up almost 100% up to $195 for peak days. It's $150-160 non peak days. Today Thursday 2/12/26 is $195 but last season this same Thursday before Presidents' Day was $90. -Thursday's are now considered weekend day pricing and no weekday pricing is options are available anymore. -Since 2020 they stopped operating Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (besides Christmas and Spring break week) which is greatly hurting all the local ski shops. If you can rent from the local shops and help them out they awesome staffing that care about you having a good day. -With this increase you would expect on mountain improvements but nothing has happened besides the "snow factory" machine that only makes snow for a small section of easy street. They also think they can use tarps like RUKA and LEVI in Finland do to solve the lack of snow/warm wet build temps when they can't make snow but don't have anywhere near the same snowmaking capacity like those resorts have. -Snowmaking from the summit/gondola including midway lift 2 is Inoperative and no plans to fix it for future lean snow years. They also haven't made snow off Capitan quad (chair 4) the last couple seasons so it seems that area is headed toward being INOP too. Basically snowmaking is limited to chair 3&5 only (the small beginner chairlifts) this is where they put the expensive operating Snow factory machine. -I'll also add Elk Ridge quad (chair 8) terrain has no snowmaking anymore but the whole area has been abandoned for over a decade including the Elk lodge with also no plans to reopen or fix the area. -Chairlifts don't seem to be properly maintained like seat cushion that are ripped on most chairs outside of 3&5 especially on Chair 2. -They are always short staff and GM Ken Marlatt stopped/wont allow an employee bus to operate to save money so less staff is showing up making operations a nightmare and chairlifts not being able to operate regularly. -staffing issues go into the lodge also like no bartenders sometimes (no bartender on 2/7/26) and bathrooms have most stall broken. Usually only 2-3 work out of 7. -The other bathrooms at the top of chair 6 Apache bowl and Moonshine Burger& Bar restrooms have been abandoned and are covered in rat droppings. -Under GM Ken Marlatt leadership staff doesn't seem safely properly trained especially with children on chairlifts (unfortunately a child lost their life this season Jan2026 due to this). -MTB trails haven't been raked/maintained since 2020 and just to ride the gondola for sightseeing cost $65. -Zero Terrain park features. No rails/boxes since 2019 and no jumps since 2020. The mountain is so beautiful and has so much potential. It's a shame to see what has now become of it since GM Ken Marlatt took over. They should look into someone else to run it before it's too late. MCP with James Coleman might make a good option. I'd recommend Cloudcroft, Sandia, Angel fire, Ski Santa Fe, Taos, Pajarito Mountain or Sipipu as other more reliable and safer options for NM skiing. If you would love to enjoy a Native American run ski area I would recommend looking in Sunrise Park Resort operated by the White Mountain Apache Tribe in Eastern Arizona. They have been making improvements to the mountain while offering fair lift ticket prices ranging from $25-$99. They will listen to any complaint especially on social media and try the best they can to improve on that. Maybe Ski Apache can learn from them instead of deleting/blocking anyone that criticizes their operations on social media. I've attached a photo of the bathroom at Moonshine Bar with RAT DROPPINGS! from this season 25/26. Apparently the bathroom at the top of Apache Bowl is a lot worse. This shows you what has become of the mountain under GM Ken Marlatt's leadership. Unfortunately due all this and now being blocked on social media (never seen a ski area block people on social media for asking why lift ticket prices increased dramatically this year) I won't spend any more money here and I'm a avid loyal skier here. I wish the best for them and hope they listen to this review as I would love to ski at SKI Apache and see it become the great mountain it use to be. Unfortunately it's just getting worse every year with GM Ken Marlatt's leadership.

We have been looking forward to this trip for some time now, especially now that it's right around the corner. Sadly, the owners of the Avalon decided to sell their home and it is now managed by Condotel. I was told that our reservation would be kept and someone would reach out about payment. At the time I spoke with Condotel the paperwork for the sell had not been completed. I was told that would happen in early August 2022. I called on 08/01/22 to inquire about the reservation and cost. I was told that our reservation had been kept and then he asked if I had received information on the payment, I said "not yet". He then proceeded to look for the payment information. My family and I had paid $4500 for the rental in 2020, through VRBO. The representative came back to the line to inform me that the NEW owners decided to increase the cost to $12k. I asked to be put in contact with the owners but was denied. Sadly, this was WAY MORE than my family and I could afford at such a short notice, so CONGRATS! to the new owners and whomever decides to rent the Avalon going forward, it will not be us. I do plan on posting this review about the Condotel service and on the Avalon to every media outlet I can find. EXTREMELY BAD EXPERIENCE AND CUSTOMER SERVICE!! Gina C.
