While the crew was genuinely hospitable, the vessel was…read morewell-maintained, the snorkeling equipment was adequate, and the meals served were enjoyable against the breathtaking island backdrop, I do believe there are several operational refinements that could elevate this excursion from good to exceptional. My primary observation centers on time management. A significant portion of our itinerary--approximately 40 to 50 minutes--was dedicated to extensive on-site briefings and detailed contextual talks about marine life and beach preferences. Additionally, the liability paperwork was quite lengthy, which further reduced our active water time. While I fully appreciate that educational commentary enriches the experience, I respectfully noted that a substantial amount of this information could have been effectively shared during transit (such as the 20-minute ride out) or consolidated into concise visual aids and summary boards upon arrival. Regarding the itinerary, our group had specifically requested a few nearby beaches located only 5 to 10 minutes further along. Although we understood that ours was a smaller group of eight on a partial-day charter, we were instead taken to alternative locations. When we inquired about visiting the requested spots, we were advised that time did not permit it. With all due respect, it seemed that the time allocated to the extended dockside presentations could have been reallocated to accommodate those short transits, allowing us to experience the more desirable locations without compromising the overall schedule. To optimize the guest experience, I would respectfully suggest that operators consider the following adjustments: deliver essential safety and educational briefings while the boat is en route, or in a pre-made video during their liability waiver signing, post succinct instructional boards for quick reference, and prioritize the top two or three premier snorkeling spots at St Johns from the outset of the trip, reserving secondary stops for the return leg. These small but meaningful changes would not only maximize time in the water but also ensure that all guests feel their preferences are genuinely heard and respected. Ultimately, streamlining the logistics and trusting that guests can absorb information efficiently would go a long way toward making an already pleasant charter a truly outstanding and memorable one.

It's been 5 years since I last dove and I had never been on an ocean dive. Living in Kentucky limits my access to beaches but we have plenty of lakes, rivers, and quarries. We went in to purchase some souvenirs for our sons and I just asked on a whim if the young lady (Coralie) knew of any reputable dive crews that had any openings the week we were in the USVI. It took some convincing from my wife but I finally relented and signed up. I am so glad that I did. Fast forward a few days and we find ourselves in front of the Fool's Gold ship with a seasoned crew of divers and captains getting ready for an adventure of a lifetime! Both dives took place at Buck Island. Dive 1 was at Barracuda Point. It was a 41-minute dive of up to 65' - 70'. Dive 2 was at the wreck of the Cartanza Senora. It was a 49 minute dive of up to 50'. Having not been out for 5 years, I decided to enlist a private dive instructor at a small additional fee. Her name was Audrey and she was AMAZING! I was nervous and showing all the signs of a new diver (holding my breath, struggling with buoyancy, etc.). She put my mind at ease and by the end of the first dive, it was like riding a bicycle. We saw so much ocean life that I would have missed were it not for her. We saw spotted drum, blue tangs, moon jellyfish, a Caribbean reef shark, a nurse shark, green sea turtles, angelfish, yellowtail snappers, pink meanies, groupers, puffer fish, parrotfish, a hawksbill sea turtle (endangered), anemones, flounder, filefish, and a solo squid. I cannot finish this review without giving huge props to the entire crew of Becca, Paul, and Gus as well. They worked so well together and made the trip memorable for everyone on the boat and in the water. My wife, who did not dive or snorkel, even had a great time on the boat and floating in the water with pool noodles. If you are considering a dive while in St. Thomas or the USVI, you would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't make Red Hook Dive Center your first call. This was a trip I will always remember. Pro tip: Make sure you bring your GoPro or dive camera. The sea life is amazing and wondrous! I'm so glad I remembered mine.

The staff had completely changed and it showed. The ONLY person that I would give more than 1 star to for customer service was Audrey...5 stars isn't enough. She was FANTASTIC! A GREAT dive master and a GREAT customer service representative of the company! She walked around on the boat before and after the dives and talked to everyone to get to know them and see how they were doing. Truly a model employee! That's where it ends. EVERYONE else was mediocre at best. No personality, no interaction with the divers, no customer service skills. Sam was no help in the dive shop, the captains were just there for the paycheck...it was a complete turnaround from the staff that was there before. BY FAR, the WORST was May. She was the dive master on my third day of dives and was a complete and utter disappointment. She picked the WORST possible dive sites (NE side of St. Thomas across from Coral World at Thatch Cay), had ZERO personality or customer service skills, and was not ready to be leading divers. We spent the first ten minutes of the second dive swimming into a strong current and she had no clue. You could watch the rocks below and see that we weren't moving at all. She finally turned us around and we just flowed with it until the dive was over. No wildlife pointed out, no attempt at doing her job...it seemed like she was being burdened to have to take us out. Needless to say, I won't use RHDC again. If is wasn't for Audrey, I would give it 1 star. She was truly great at her job. The rest...not so much.

The biggest issue was the lack of organization from the start. We spent close to an hour waiting between multiple lines--first in the sun to exchange tickets, then again to hand off a second ticket. It felt unnecessarily complicated and poorly managed. Because of the delays, the boat traveled very fast to make up time. The water was choppy, and several guests became seasick on the way to the snorkeling site. There were also multiple issues with communication and expectations. We were not informed in advance that full-face snorkel masks were not allowed, which would have impacted our decision to book. The equipment provided did not feel clean, and we were told there were not enough flippers or beverages for everyone. The excursion description advertised rum punch, soft drinks, and snacks, but no snacks were provided. The rum punch was also very poor quality, and most guests declined more. While the snorkeling location at Buck Island was beautiful and the water was calm, the actual experience in the water was lacking. The guide quickly swam off and was not visible to the group, leaving guests without direction. Our time snorkeling felt short--around an hour. The return trip was slower and more comfortable, which we appreciated. However, overall this was the least enjoyable snorkeling excursion we have experienced. We would not choose this company again and would recommend others consider alternative options.

After about a ten minute walk from the ship, we embarked on our sail to Buck Island National Wildlife Refuge. Once we arrived at Turtle Cove, the crew gave us thorough snorkeling instructions (including: don't touch the turtles), and distributed quality equipment. They were super helpful to anyone in need. My snorkeling PIC and I swam halfway between the boat and a big group of people, and found a beautiful sea turtle having lunch underneath us. We floated with her for about an hour. Unfortunately, tourists from the other boat were trying to touch her. Ew. [$10k fine, by the way] Once we were back on board the bar opened for endless cocktails. We drank tasty rum punch all the way back to port. Overall, an AMAZING three hour excursion, I would definitely book again.
