We got a flight for 9 dollars which has 3 mini scoops. We find this is the best deal for your bucks. There was no line when we went but the store was pretty busy. One downside is just they won't let you taste the ice cream first before buying, so you just have to go with your gut. However, if you're unhappy with your choice, they say they'd be willing to swap your ice cream out for you. We ended up choosing Super baked, chocolate and hojicha. The super baked was soooooo sooo good. As someone who grew up in South Asia, this ice cream just really hit the spot. The chocolate is a classic, very creamy and not too sweet. The hojicha is just okay, I'll probably try a different flavour next time. Overall, I would recommend this place and would definitely come back when I'm in the area. read more

One of my favourite ice cream spots in the city. I love how they integrate Asian flavours in an innovative way! Standouts to me were the Vegan Tofu Fa (so nostalgic and tasted exactly like the real thing, especially with the ginger syrup mixed in), Che Ba Mau, and Chrysanthemum. I really like how they have a rotating menu because I always get to try something new. Only downside is that sometimes my favs just aren't there! I guess I'll just have to stock up on points when I can :D No matter the weather, there's always a line and I never mind waiting in it. Advertised as best ice cream in the galaxy which I thought was a bold claim...no they mean it. Actually best ice cream I've ever had. Flavors were amazing, creamiest ice cream I've ever had, texture was divine. I got the flight with flavors of Monster Mash, I'd Rather be Smoking, and Milk Crumble (I think? was the name) served with a little wafer. Monster mash had an earl grey caramel that I would buy a whole squeeze bottle of that if I could. I'd rather be smoking was a smoked vanilla ice cream with hojicha cookies. Not my favorite of the 3, but can respect them for their honesty that it really does taste like you're smoking a cigarette. Milk crumble had some of the best spongey toffee I've ever had in my life. You can bite through it nicely and it didn't have large chunks just stay in your teeth. Would also buy a bag of that, but actually they do sell it by the bag. You can't ask for samples, but they claim if you don't like it you can swap out for a different flavor. There is four bar stool seats, but besides that nowhere else to eat. read more

This is hands down one of my favourite ice cream shops in Toronto. They are a custard based ice team place so the ice cream is extra smooth and creamy. And they also have a great section of Asian flavours, which I know I am biased to. Most notable but potentially not always available are their durian, pandan, viet coffee and ca phe sinh to bo (translates to avocado coffee, and trust me, it was delicious, though I believe they have discontinued that flavour). They're always experimenting and coming up with new flavours but of course they always have their classics as well. There's minimal seating at their shop and they also have a truck that travels around the GTA (check out their insta or website for the truck location and flavours). They of course also sell their ice creams in pints which for $14 is worth it in my opinion. Super down to earth and friendly service. I feel like ruru baked has a lot of hype around being the best ice cream spot in the city and I think it truly lives up to all the hype. Every time I've come here there's been a line to buy ice cream no matter what season it's been... winter, summer, spring, or fall. I do not let cold weather stop me from enjoying ice cream and the first time I ever went was during the winter and it was pretty full then. This time around I went in the spring and it was even more full. The only thing that I feel like is a double edge sword is that they have a constantly rotating menu, which is great when you want to bring cool and innovative flavours to market, but then for your loyal customers who really only like one to two flavours and hope that those 1-2 flavours are always there when they go visit, it sucks when they aren't there at the time you visit. I was also super disappointed that they close down the Pacific Mall location because it was way closer than this Lansdowne location to me. But this summer I noticed that this week they're at Union Station for the TD union Summers and I obviously went. My favourite flavour is the honey comb cereal milk, which they didn't have at the TD union Summers this week, but Banoffee is a delicious close second. I have a pint of the honey comb cereal milk flavour in my freezer and I am savouring it. I also think they do a great job with their branding and having merch around their store and available for sale. Lastly, they offer free lactaid for all you lactose intolerant / sensitive folks!!! Ended up trying the carrot cake and creme brulee flavours, although was hoping to try the milk tea as a scoop but it was not available :( These flavours were pretty delicious anyway! Love the carrot cake which has a bit of spice and bits of cake that give a different texture and go so well with the ice cream, which I've never seen. Right next to Lansdowne station, a super cute and always busy ice cream shop. The staff are really friendly. I've had their ice cream multiple times and have varying opinions of each. One thing I'd like to say is that they seem to have a great work environment. It's nice to see the owner encouraging her employees. I tried their matcha shortbread milkshake. For that, they add two scoops and blend with milk. It was pretty good and I was given a spoon to get the shortbread chunks. It's quite a decent size. It's $9 before tax, which I think is okay. After, since I have stomach issues, I tried their vegan tofu fa ice cream. It's a bit thick, but the flavour is exactly like tofu! I was really amazed by that. One thing though is that I think they could've had more ginger syrup on it. I got a mini scoop which came out to $4 after tax. If you get the ice cream in a cup, they give you this little wafer that tastes like ice cream cone. I thought that was a really nice touch. They change their flavours daily, which is interesting. This is such a great little spot with asian inspired icecream flavours. You can even take a pint or two home. The banofee flavour is to die for! it is rich and creamy and perfect. Some flavours are a bit too sweet but you can try different flavours before committing. The staff there are friendly and nice and will answer any questions you might have. Maybe it's about personal taste and I'm just not a big fan of custard-based icecream? I thought the icecream base was good (smooth and not overly sweet). The big knock I have against it is I would have liked the flavours to be stronger. Got the Milo and Honeycomb Cereal Milk, and while both had hints of those, I like to be hot over the head and bowled over by the flavours versus loving the cream itself. Oh well. Came here through a recommendation from a friend and tried the Milk Tea flavor as well as the Condensed Milk + Red Bean flavor. I liked the latter better, probably because I was expecting a lot more from the Milk Tea. It was too light in flavor for my liking; the aromatics just weren't there. Condensed milk/red bean was also on the lighter side but at least a bit more distinctive than milk tea. Great texture though - I can tell it's quality ice cream. Been here a few times before but came back to try their limited time ice cream flavour collaboration with Adidas. We also had to order some scoops while we were already there! This time we ordered the 3X Choco and Rum + Raisin. The 3X Choco was white chocolate based and was great from someone who doesn't like traditional chocolate ice cream. The Rum + Raisin was surprisingly good for someone who doesn't like raisins. The Adidas "Confirmed" ice cream was also tasty, I'm happy we got a chance to pick up some pints before the flavour disappeared! Ruru Baked is a small batch custard-based ice cream operation/shop with a lot of heart. When they first started out, the owners sold their scoops at pop-ups around the city and sold their pints at Empire Espresso. The team behind Ruru Baked are about giving back and build community through participating in local business collaborations. Much thought goes into their packaging, the plastic pint containers can be reused and recycled + their cups and wooden spoons are compostable. Food: Below are some flavours I tasted recently (some with mix-ins and some without). If you prefer your ice cream with no mix-ins (biscuits, pie/tart/cookie chunks, beans, cereal, etc.), refer to their website for detailed descriptions of each flavour or ask one of the friendly team members. Pandan - one of my favourites, I can't describe this flavour well but it's a fragrant plant with leaves commonly used in South East Asian cuisine + desserts. It tastes exactly as how I remembered it when I had this ice cream flavour in Vietnam. Honeycomb Cereal Milk - the cereal milk taste was not as strong in this one, but this ice cream flavour packed a punch. A must-try if you enjoy honeycomb. Real Kid - next to the classic Neopolitan ice cream, this is the best triple flavoured ice cream, maybe better. Each scoop is composed of banana, blueberry and just strawberry. I don't get excited at the thought of banana flavoured desserts but this flavour arrangement is delicious. The fruit flavours are real and not artificial. Cinnamon Toast Crunch (CTC) - this is cereal milk goodness, there is the CTC cereal in it. The sweetness level is right on, not too sugary. Service & atmosphere: The staff here are the fastest ice cream scoopers. By the time I am done paying, my ice cream order is ready in a snap! Four customers/people are allowed in the shop at a time, and there is sufficient space for physical distancing. Pricing: Their ice cream is churned using an ice cream machine. The batches that contain mix-ins are all assembled by hand to ensure each bite is a good one. For the convenient location (a 1-2 minute walk south of Lansdowne station) and unique flavours, I can't complain much about the price. read more

Ruru Baked is a small local business making homemade small batch ice creams with unique flavours. They used do their pick ups from Empire Espresso (on College), but recently they opened a storefront near Lansdowne and Bloor. I had heard of Ruru Baked in the past but never understood the hype until I ordered from them half a year ago. Their pints must be preordered ahead of time where the flavours sell out in minutes (now they do same day preorders and pick ups). The preordering process is definitely nervewracking!!! Once you've secured your ice cream, you can rest easy. I've tried a variety of flavours including HK milk tea, Oolong, Smooth Chai, Black Sesame, and Deep & Delish. Each ice cream flavour is unique in it's own way and so delicious. I don't know how it's done but all their ice creams are extremely tasty and nothing like I've tried before. Forget all the ice creams you find at the grocery stores because Ruru Baked blows them all away. Highly highly recommend Ruru Baked. You won't regret it! Great variety of Asian inspired flavours! Their vegan flavours are unique as well. I got a scoop of the Asian pear and wow it tastes just like it. I went closer to end of the day so there wasn't any wait. Staff was friendly and good at describing the flavours. I ended up buying a tub of the vegan che ba mau. It is so damn good. The best way I can describe this ice cream flavour is that it's essentially Pralines & Cream (by Baskin Robbins and Haagen Dazs), minus the pralines and pools of caramel.
