ER was over run with patients and large bugs... seriously I had to kill one and it was not pretty. At least two patients left who had enough. I hate this place. My favorite PCP of all time is unfortunately there, but I've replaced every single other provideer with someone outside of Rush because things are so bad there and keep getting worse. For fun, ask your nurse or healthcare professional at Elmhurst or anywhere else if they used to work at Rush, and they'll fill you in on the behind-the-scenes: VC capital all the way, decimating entire departments, centralizing in the name of "efficiency", cutting staff and paying badly (so they all leave and go work elsewhere.) I've been trying to get my name changed in my account since my divorce in January. After getting it changed everywhere else -- including the health insurance I was using! -- I was told Rush wouldn't change it until I brought in my corrected drivers license. (Even though the name they had in the system is no longer my legal name, and the insurance card they're using is corrected.) Finally, I bring that in to my appointment yesterday, the receiptionist in the office says she'll get it changed and it'll happen right away. Still hasn't happened today so I call the number that was in the notice that they couldn't process my insurance before the visit (because it's not correct because it's not in my name and new plan, which I can't change in the system because it doesn't match the name in the system.) This woman interrogates me as to whether the receptionist called medical records in front of me beause there's a "protocol" and the ID is in their system but "only that guy can change it." One guy. And because I didn't know, and told her, "I don't know what the receptionist did, it's not my job to know the protocol, can you just look into it and call me back?" she told me I "didn't want to work with her" and hung up on me. And then pretended she couldn't hear me when I called back. (I'm sure because my phone shows my number.) Add this to the monthly prescription filling madness that's overcomplicated by a "centralized" system where that person never checks the right file, and so I get denied all the time, and I have to call Rush central and wait on hold (because you can only message the office through myChart, which can take 72 hours to for them to get back to you.) You will be on hold forever and still not be any closer to an answer, but AGAIN they will tell you about a protocol they have to follow, which is different from the one they had to follow before. AND you can forget about going to Patient Relations, who yell at you and say you have to talk to your doctor when there are problems with billing charging you for two different procedures when only one procedure code was given on the referral form print-out -- which I confirmed over a year later with the Ultrasound Department head herself. (And mine wasn't the only one that was incorrectly printed.) But Billing will keep talking to you like you're an idiot who doesn't undestand how insurance works, rather than they have a paperwork "protocol" issue that the doctor can't solve. I am so glad I moved away from Oak Park, because the ambulance would have to take me there or to West Suburban, and both are routinely terrible in surprising ways. West Sub has been shut down for good reason. Rush just stays bad and keeps adding layers of hell to make sure you can never reach anyone who can fix your problem, and no one will ever be accountable for not doing their jobs. Ever. (Looking at Robin in Patient Relations for starters. Still haven't heard from that office about the medication errors, so I guess I'm in some "don't help her" file... or maybe that's a double-secret password protocol no one's told me about yet.) Preface: If you can make it - go to another ER Facility not associated with RUSH medical. I want to start by saying the nurses and techs here were some of the nicest, most attentive staff I've dealt with ever. That said, the facility itself felt badly under-resourced and poorly managed. I waited over 2 hours to be seen by a "physician", who was actually with a doctor appearing over video, not in person. I then waited almost 3 hours after they ordered testing, no one updated or checked on me. I ended up waiting close to 6 hours without being actually seen or talked to. I left the facility. The waiting room was overcrowded with not nearly enough seating for the number of patients. What stuck with me most: one of the nurses mentioned she hadn't been able to take a lunch break because no one was available to relieve her. The staff are clearly stretched far too thin, and it shows, not in the quality of their care, but in how long everything takes and how strained the whole environment feels. I genuinely feel for the people working here. They deserve better support from the facility so they can do their jobs without being run into the ground. read more

The worst experience of my life came in the ER, and the ER doctors' excuse as to why he did not order a test promptly was that he was overwhelmed. At first, he was extremely rude and dismissive of my husband's concerns. As soon as he realized he had made a mistake, his attitude completely changed, and he was apologetic, but his reason was so disturbing: "Due to the high volume of patients, I wish I had ordered the ultrasound sooner. Mind you, they only have 22 beds available. As I walked around, not all of those 22 beds were filled; they had about five rooms open. My husband was in the hallway, where everyone was passing by, listening to what was going on. No privacy whatsoever. Now we are at the TENTH HOUR, and now we just put in for an ultrasound, which should have happened as soon as we walked in or shortly after. After waiting for 45 minutes for an ultrasound, I asked how much longer he had to wait. At this point, I want him transferred over to Northwestern Hospital. This is unacceptable. Rush is regarded as one of the top hospitals, but clearly, that is not the case. I WILL NEVER BE BACK AGAIN. This hospital has no regard for the Latino or Black patients. read more

Had my first colonoscopy up here with Dr. John Konen and couldn't have been more pleased with him and the entire lovely staff, who absolutely made me feel as comfortable as possible while having to go through such an experience. My doctor recommended I go to the ER because he could not see me for several days and I had symptoms consistent with thrombosis. In Triage the nurse asked me to rate my pain level. I told her it was currently 1 but rose to 10 at night when I tried to sleep and that because of that I had been unable to sleep for over a week. She rated me 1 and i waited and waited in the ER as the lowest priority. Every hour when I asked how many people were ahead of me she said 6. After hours of watching people come in and go out I finally left. Most of the staff were nice but the young girl in charge of calling clients was very snitty. I have received years of quality service from the Rush network, including Rush Oak Park. But the behavior of the Telemetry Unit staff on the fifth floor of the hospital during my family member's potentially life-threatening illness has been consistently verbally abusive and in direct contradiction of their own prominently advertised anti-harassment policy. Due to my family member's condition, I was on that unit most hours between 8am and 8pm for three consecutive days. During that time, the staff was generally supportive of my family member when understandable time constraints did not limit their availability. But multiple staff members were relentlessly abusive to me, using dehumanizing and insulting language at a time of extreme duress for for my family. They used profane language to describe me, were openly hostile to my attempts to care for an ailing loved one who had specifically requested my presence, repeatedly implied that I was unwelcome, and defended their unprofessional attitudes by demeaning my value as a human being. read more

I have had family get admitted at the hospital and unfortunately its shameful that the doctors dont always converse about medical plan of care. Example includes to continue blood thinners post stroke when someone has history of arrythmia's. I had a procedure scheduled that required prior preparation and medicine. Hospital sent instructions and finally, at the last minute, sent prescription to be filled. When I looked at what I was supposed to take, it did not conform to the instructions I had received. I called Osco and the pharmacist told me that the I had been given the wrong instructions. I tried to call anyone at the hospital but since it was after 5 pm the only human I could reach was in the ER who of course knew nothing about this. The highly paid medical staff was NOT AVIALABLE and I have the Osco pharmacist to thank for saving me from taking inappropriate medicine. My infant started daycare about a week ago, so it's no surprise she caught a bug. I decided to bring her to the emergency room due to a persistent fever. There is free parking for the ER located directly across from the entrance. I was unsure of where the entrance was exactly, the green doors threw me off. Upon entering, I was unsure on which way to enter. To the left there appears to be some sort of security room, to the right is the entrance. I entered the lobby still unsure as to where I was to check in until a woman called me over. Check-in was quick. The representative took my information and gave my infant a label. About 10-20 minutes later we were triaged by a male nurse, who just asked a few questions. 10-20 minutes later we were asked to the back for vitals and then sent back to the lobby to wait for a doctor. We waited about the same amount of time to see a provider. The longest we waited was for test and the medication they administered to work. It is not the average ER once you get to the back, and I'm not sure if this is due to COVID, but there's a hallway lined with chairs with dividers for privacy. I am never comfortable with spaces like these because you can literally hear what every other patient is in for. read more

In a year in which Covid greatly diminished my visits to new places and venues, shame on me for forgetting to review the place where I was tested positive for Corona virus. Though for much of the 10 days or so that followed, reviewing anything was about the furthest thing from my mind. If there was a bright spot in my dealings with the pandemic, this was it. I was about ten minutes late for the appointment (overslept) and they gave me no grief for it - fortunately it didn't slow others down from getting their test. No waiting for me at all, I did a drive up self-test with masked supervision. I had my results the next day, which was critical for updating my employer. My brother recently used Rush-OP Hospital and had a positive experience as well. Since our family physician retired last year after practicing for almost five decades, we'll likely seek out a new physician from the Rush group due to the outcomes of our visits. read more

If you ever need to have a myomectomy (fibroids removed) I highly recommend Dr. Sadikovic. She was extremely patient with me and communicated with me from surgery to follow ups. She made me very comfortable and took all my fears away. I have never felt heard by any doctor until I met her. read more

I had to visit a wound care specialist after a surgery incision and wound was being pesky and i was referred (from Dr Laurence Levine) to see Doctor Farah Hashemi-Fakouri. I couldn't have asked for a better overall experience. I always felt like Dr Hashemi was there for me and would always listen to my concerns. She's very down to earth and from day one, felt like i was talking to a friend. I absolutely would recommend her. Building is just south of the main entrance and will have a small driveway where they have valet. They are not the fastest because there is usually only one person but they're usually really good staff. read more

Hello To whom this may concern, Hello I'm speaking for myself and my mother. Today we were up at oak park rush hospital visiting my brother. We were told by nurse Molly that Dr. Joel mensing would come in to talk. Well we waited for two hours he never came. As we left he then runs up saying "LADIES!" Not once did he introduce himself on whom he was since we never met him. He also approached my mother very aggressively. My mother was shocked and upset and the type of career she has and she had on work uniform she could not believe this. She then began to tell him "this is new to me my life just changed two weeks ago I have a career and I work and it's hard to get his info when he was a 41 year old grown man, bare with me I'm still processing this. Dr. Joel Mensing then says " it's going on two weeks you need to figure out a plan" my mother explained to him the same statement above again (which we had a plan we talked to the case worker) and he in a sense acted as he didn't care because his exact words were "well that's not my problem you have yo figure it out because she has to go he has been got the approvals and release to leave. Now for one I have served this country for 12 years and this was by far the rudest most inconsiderate condescending doctor I've ever met. The first doctor understood his job and spoke with respect and regards to the situation. It was rude and insensitive to approach this woman aggressively as she is dealing with life and death decisions. However, not only was he very unprofessionally he completely violated our rights as far as patient client confidentiality. He did not say hey how are you or mention his name nor did he ever say let's step in the family room or can we talk somewhere private? He decided to have this conversation amongst other nurses who are not aware of probably what's going on or who have not dealt with him and now there's individuals who are also in this hospital who know our business who should not know this. As a doctor you are supposed to disclose information in a private location this is why HIPPA was in place and he has completely violated that discussing business and open when it should've been discussed in a private setting. As a family we spoke highly of this hospital and the care these last two weeks but the demeanor and attitude, and the stature that Dr. sold was very unprofessional. If you don't want to work in a professional field to deal with people than McDonald's, and Burger King is completely hiring. I have service country 12 years and I give everybody the same upmost respect as long as you respect me, I will give you respect, but the way he blatantly and aggressively approached my mother. It was so disrespectful and condescending, and then spoke with his hands that his unprofessional behavior, and I'm sorry, but it leads me to believe that if it was somebody of another race, would he have treated them like that because as I paid attention to him interacting with the other patient who was Caucasian race, he was very calm and peaceful, but when he approached us, he was with aggression . I do hope this is handled and corrected and fixed but me as his sister and as her daughter I'm highly upset, and I will be sending complaints further up and complaints about him as well to other individuals because this can't keep going on. I do hope to hear from somebody with a response and I hope to hear from somebody with a quick action because my mother is highly upset and so am I you should never talk to that woman like that and her son is on life and death and my mother really truly feels that race played a pact factor in this because based off what I visually saw and body languages of your other nurses yeah other nurses seem to be on edge compared to most days when I'm there weather almost every day since he's been in the hospital they are nurses has always been chipper and happy and then today we walk in and they said it's a new nurse on rotation and all the nurses are on edge right there. That's a problem, and I don't know if you guys see that problem of me as a military member and as the position I heard, I always had to pay attention to body languages, and the body languages of those nurses did not speak positive to me at all so I hope this is fixed and I will send this exact same email to other individuals as well because I want this fixed and rectified, and I want something handled because what was broken was the fact that our privacy was not private it was displayed in front of everybody on the whole floor instead of in a private setting. I would never ever would want to come for any type of medical assistance to this Hospital. The problem here is that a lot stuff happens and no one ever voices their opinion and if they do they take it to management where they toss it out and never care to call the patient back and asked what happened. I asked one of your staff members named Betty how long would it be before it was seen seeing that I've been here for over two hours and Her attitude was horrible and the answer she gave didn't make any sense along with her tone in her voice!!!! I talked to another staff member in your hospital named Andrea and she was very pleasant and was able to answer now why can't other staff member be like Andrea? After incident, the doctor came in and I had to go look for the nurse in charge because 2 1/2 hours later still no medication She said she has to look for my work order. It's been ridiculous!! Now it's 8:30 AM, and still no discharge papers. I had to go up to the desk to ask the guy at the desk. If my stuff was put through he said no I told him I wrote a review if they didn't want me to write another one, I said I suggest totell the doctor to put in my work order currently Brooke the nurse said she will go get it to give it to me. There is no way to make an appointment for this lab, unless another Rush doctor makes it for you (so you're out of luck unless you're an actual patient of Rush). I waited over 3 hours for a walk in appointment. The staff was friendly & overly apologetic for being understaffed. It's gross negligence, incompetence & unnecessary risk to individual on behalf of a hospital network as expansive & wealthy as Rush to have such extensive wait times during a pandemic in a tiny waiting room with only 4 chairs. This place is the worst. I wasn't feeling well all weekend and Monday night started getting chest pains so I called a sitter and went to the ER. I sat in the waiting room for 5 hours and then another hour in the room before I was seen by anyone. Dr. McKenna was the first person to see me and I explained how I had arm, back and chest pain with shortness of breath. She left and a nurse returned with Tylenol when I already told the Dr that Tylenol didn't do anything so I passed on the pill. She then orders a urine sample and shortly after discharged me telling me to use a warm compress and Tylenol!? No bloodwork. No ECG. No asking about my family history. I was shocked. My mother has heart disease and I wouldn't have waited so long to know that they didn't take chest pains and shortness of breath to be an emergency. And the nurses didn't seem to care at all about being in pain and were not very empathetic. The Dr really didn't seem to care about what I was telling her and rushed me out saying it was a virus. Also, another patient was in the waiting room pregnant and they didn't seem to care about her either. I made a vow to not come here anymore. No wonder everyone that lives in Oak Park goes to Elmhurst Hospital. read more
