The last was over 10 years ago when I was with friends for a local convention. Things have definitely not changed here at all. Let's see how the afternoon turned out. Upon walking in, I noticed quilts on display via the African American Sewical Threaders Guild. They're done as part of Black History Month. They were fantastic and well made. I didn't get the chance to see all of them, but activities like this are very important to the community. They deserve a huge applause for this all around. For reading time, I headed upstairs where they had more tables if you wanted to do homework, use your laptop for assignments, or like myself, enjoying a mostly quiet environment in front of a book. Foot traffic was at a minimum the entire time I was present and it was mostly quiet. Could not ask for more. The next time I'm in the area, hopefully I'll stop by again. Truly a calm place to relax. I'm pretty sure there are some people who actually live here, and that's not cool, in my opinion. Most of the time, there are some folks that think it's a good idea to show up and be as LOUD as they can and encourage their children to do the same. I'm here to tell them, it's not "iconoclastic" or "anti-authority" to do that.. it's just annoying and disrespectful. You're not breaking a "boomer tradition", you're just making yourselves seem even more unnecessary. Just saying. Aside from that, the place itself is good. Lots of walking space and plenty to read. Just be careful when requesting items, they claim to not carry CD's anymore, even though they do. And they'll refuse to get some items because of "low demand", which directly contradicts the person requesting it. I swear, I don't know what it is about the people that work at some of these places, but they're not helping the librarian stereotype. I still like this one though, overall.

Let's see how this visit went. The library is on the smaller side compared to most of the libraries I've been to in Hampton Roads. They have two floors with the top mostly with computer tables. There are a few private rooms available if you have a group or if you prefer alone time away from folks. The decor is neat of course and the vibe is pretty quiet. From the side entrance, you run into some artwork. I'm not sure if they're from local artists, but they're really nice to view. Only though I was here for short times, this library has been a good place to rest. The next time I'm in the area, it'll be a go-to for me :)

They have a dedicated children's area in a separate area that has plenty of learning activities, toys, books, DVDs & computers. You can rent several books and DVDs at a time which we take full advantage of. They offer free classes for all children ages at different times throughout the year- my toddler loved attending where they read stories and had fun learning activities. Register online for the free toddler classes. Bathrooms are clean and have baby changing stations. This month they will be having the "Teeny Tiny Farm's Baby Zoo" which we are excited to atrend !

Quite a humorous site for others, I imagine, but a pain in the butt for my short self. All in all, I was very pleased with the service and our experience.

Ambiance: The place is nice and big, and its size is something that I did not expect when I see it from the outside. It provides plenty of seating area, tables to study/read, and the tables are prepared with plugs to be able to phones/laptops/anything that is being used by patrons coming in to this library. The library also offers plenty of computers for patrons to use, and a very nice printing area for those who need to print items. Above all, I come here often seeing many individuals use this place as a place to hang out, spend time, or even get away from situations that they are in. It provides a very safe and secure environment, and even more with an onsite security guard. They are open from 10a-8p most days, Fridays they close at 6p, and they are also open on Sundays from 1p-6p. Selection: The selection is small as compared to Chesapeake City Library, or other libraries in the Chesapeake area, but can also be considered as a pretty healthy selection of books, magazines, CDs/DVDs, and games. Service: The library does seem to be here for those in the community. They have a TV that advertises what is going on, and services they offer. I most especially like that they offer assistance with jobs for those who need it. They do advertise job fairs and have job postings available to make people aware of these opportunities. The customer service at the front desk is really great, very amicable, personable, and helpful. I am also amazed at the facial memory that some of them have that work behind the desk. They definitely seem to be here for the people. Food: Yes! There is a little cafe that serves food for those who come at a very cheap rate. Do not expect Starbucks kind of meals, but the sandwiches they prepare taste homemade and are a nice lunch to have. Usually, there is a weekly special/deal that they offer, which is usually a discounted rate of some items on their menu. The service is great as well! Sometimes we take for granted the resources we have at our disposal. The library is one of those things. They offer so much to the community and 99% of the time it costs us nothing but a little enthusiasm and time. This event had to do with explaining magic through science. My granddaughter throughly enjoyed it and I would dare to say that all the other children did as well. The library puts out a monthly calendar of all the events they are hosting. I've enjoyed several myself. One of my favorite was a gardening class. They offer something for everyone. Great place to spend some quality time with your little ones.

Pros- I love how quiet this place is and how fast and efficient the computers are. Internet here is never shoddy. Everyone that comes here comes here to study so you really get this studious feel. Minimal distractions. Really the spot for studying. Cons- parking. I don't have classes this semester on campus ! I take most of my classes online or in person at SECEP. This means I don't have a parking pass so guess what !!! I'm always having to bring tons of coins with me and when I'm spending an evening here .. I constantly have to walk out to the meters to put in more coins in and honestly .. it's a hike when you're under a time crunch. Also .. there isn't much metered parking to begin with ? Sometimes I come here (aka finals week) and there's only one metered spot left. Maybe next semester I'll just bite the bullet and buy a parking pass (it's over priced btw in my opinion) for the convenience especially because I really love going here to study but I really hate the parking situation.

For anyone planning on going to TCC and transferring to ODU in the VB area this is something to consider (keep reading). It's also affiliated with NSU, that's as far is I know since I'm not a student there. The classes in currently taking are distance learning and in person. Now that I'm attending ODU, I really learned to appreciate the Higher Ed Center. I commute to ODU's main campus out in Norfolk and it's such a hassle considering the fact that you have to go on the highway, pray you find a parking spot (parking in Norfolk sucks), and make it to class on time. During the winter times the circulation in my legs froze midway walking to the Perry...it's not fun. If you're always on the go, works full time, and wants to save money -attending classes here is your best bet. It's on the smaller side, two stories, they have a tiny ODU/NSU library with computers and tables, Wave Cafe that serves Filipino food, and you can get your parking pass here too ($124/one semester). They do have people that check your decal so beware! I learned my lesson the other day bc I thought I was being slick parking in a discreet area next to a tree. Walked out and saw that darn piece of paper on my windshield and my hard earned $15 bucks out of pocket.

I visited this center for a private event last weekend…read more I heard about this center before and wanted to check it out, but never got around to it. I still really didn't check it out last Saturday. I only walked in the front door - to the right - and the event was in the banquet rooms to the right. If I had to guess about two rooms were used to accompany about 100 people. Overall, I was please with the center. I did see young boys enjoying the facility. I did notice this center is only open from 12p-4p on Saturdays. Unlike most recreation centers in the area, this one looks to be the the largest or in close competition with others in the city. Plenty of parking! Check them out when time permits. Have fun and enjoy life :)

Greeted with kindness, everything is spotless, seniors are working out, I mean really pumping iton. I am motivated. The parking lot is wonderful too. Spaces are wider than usual to accommodate newer vehicles. The mixture of ages is very nice. I am jazzed by the positive attitudes and smiles. Loving it.
