Came here with my mom since she wanted to try this place. When we arrive the place was empty with no customers. We advise the cashier it was are first time and just needed to look over the menu. The cashier didn't really suggest any until I asked him what he like on the menu . Normally when you say it's your first time at a food place the employees tend to make suggestions but I had to pretty much as for one. Upon eating my grilled shrimp taco I notice halfway through my shrimp wasn't cooked all the way . I'm not sure how someone under cooks shrimp . We order the Cauliflower taco and a chicken taco as well as the corn in a cup. The corn was really good but not sure if I would risk having my food undercooked again . This was my first time visiting this restaurant. I had just flown home and was famished. I got a steak bowl, a cauliflower taco, chips and salsa. Plus, I got a margarita to go. Tacos have been a pretty big deal in Dallas. This particular joint is located pretty close to the private high schools, so you could imagine the kind of business it gets. The prices for each taco is reasonably priced and the drinks they have on draft are not too bad either. Tacos will cost you from $2-5 each, and drinks will probably be from $5-12 I believe, depending on what you get. It is pretty spacious here, and the patio is available to sit outside and enjoy your food there when the weather is good. This place probably seats around 50 people and is a lively environment during lunch time. I went in the morning and got the breakfast tacos. I needed a meeting catered for 125 people, and was given a strict budget. We had previously had pre-made R Tacos brought in for a lunch meeting and they were amazing - everyone raved about them. So, I contacted Eduardo about catering. We agreed on beef and chicken fajitas as well as a vegetarian. We also ordered chips and queso. Eduardo showed up at the assigned time - organized, and moved quickly to get everything set. He had chafing dishes for the tortillas, entrees and queso. Plenty of serving utensils, Toppings like cojita cheese, pepitas, pico de gallo, and two HUGE containers of salsa. Plus a huge amount of chips. Everything looked very professional and nice. If you have any experience with groups, you know someone always complains. But, I didn't hear one negative comment. Everyone absolutely raved about the food, there was plenty of everything and it was hot! In fact, my colleagues were so impressed, we are now bypassing Torchy's (across the street) and Fuzzy's (our old go-to) to drive the extra bit to R Tacos. Rusty Taco has become another Texas chain, therefore, they must be doing something right. This Rusty Taco location provides tasty tacos, although they were cold. I'm not quite sure how that happened, but on a cold night, I was expecting at least lukewarm food. Maybe because my food was cold, the flavors didn't seem to "pop". I had the #9, #13, and the #5. The brisket taco (#5) was the most flavorful, and all three cost $7.50. The food prepper was a funny guy, and he gave me extra salsa for my preggo belly. These are VERY good street tacos.. at some point or another I've introduced every single person I know to Rusty's. I even bought my daughter a Rusty's taco shirt! Sloppy, messy, little street tacos made usually within a matter of minutes are just delicious and you can devour 4 of them without blinking an eye. A very different taco than your "hard shell" type taco. There's only a couple shortcomings: 1. The parking lot is a nightmare. Not designed for how much traffic they see and a very likely place to get into a fender bender. 2.The fact that they don't really have a "patio culture". I think if they would serve margaritas and bring in musicians to play on the patio more often this would really be a cool place to hang out. Rusty Taco is a nice alternative to some of the fast food options (Sonic; Chik-Fil-A) located in front of the Lowe's on Inwood. The atmosphere is casual (almost a beachy-vibe) with two garage doors that are open on cooler days/evenings. To start, the tacos are small. If you are accustomed to the burrito-sized tacos at Torchy's, then this is very different. The tacos are similar in size to Fuel City (i.e. about the size of your palm). But at the same time, the tacos are not too expensive -- typically in the range of $2 or $2.50. My two favorite tacos so far are the #11 BBQ Brisket Taco (good mix of brisket with cole slaw) and the #8 Baja Shrimp Taco (fried shrimp with a great creamy baja sauce). There are three difference sauces (hot, medium, and "very hot") for each of the tacos too. As for the sides, I've had the chips and guacamole which are good -- but nothing out of this world. They also serve draft beers (Revolver, Peticolas, Deep Ellum, and Corona Light) that are about $4.50 or $5 and come in a frosted mug. I also saw a few people drinking frozen margaritas but those can run upwards of $8 to $10. All in all, the service is quick, the prices are reasonable (about $20 or so for 3 tacos, chips & guacamole, and two beers), and the atmosphere is comfortable and breezy (at least when the weather cooperates). read more

My wife and I visit Dallas every Christmas from Southern Cal, and are always disappointed with the tacos here, because they are such a departure from what we're used to(here we find a lot of the prefab hard shell/ground beef/soulless type). Thankfully, Rusty Taco changed all that for me. This is much more my style-simple, tasty, street style tacos that remind me of a beach taco stand in Baja, Ca. Nice variety of taco choices! I had a Picadillo Beef and a Roasted Pork with pickled red onions, and my wife had Baja Shrimp and Achiote Pork. For us, good Mexican food has soul, which means depth of flavor which comes from expertly seasoned, slow cooked ingredients, and cookware with a lot of mileage on it. ; ) Rusty Taco tacos have some soul, more than most walk up places can achieve. As for reviewers that say the tacos are too small, it must be a Texas thang. Bigger isn't better, and you want a good ratio of tortilla to filling, regardless of size. I really like the food at Rusty Taco. As others have said, the tacos are a little smaller than some other places, but the prices reflect that and the ingredients and flavors are good. Also as others have said the parking along the front is tight and plenty of cars seem to whiz by while others try to back out. Solution: park along the side which is no big deal. Where Rusty's falls short for me is the customer service, at least at the Inwood location. The last two times we've eaten there, the service has been less than friendly - borderline snippy actually. Both customer service employees looked annoyed. When your food is ready, your name may / may not be yelled out, one time, in a way you can understand. Interestingly, we've eaten there several times and have noticed fewer customers each time. Also, consistently, (last 3 times in the shop) no lids for beverage cups are available. I have given up asking for them. Again, this is a less than $10 meal so set expectations accordingly - however, a smile once in a while would go a long way. Other than the tasty food, overall the experience is better at Fuzzy or Torchy, in my opinion. read more
