I was a fire medic in Florida with a total accumulated experience in EMS of about 20 years. Like most paramedics and firefighters we hate calling 911 unless we are dying and then we usually drive ourselves in lol. Unfortunately I had been vomiting continuously for 24 hours fell asleep and woke up vomiting. I was upstairs. My husband was downstairs and engaged with the EMS crew who then proceeded to treat me in the worst manner I could've imagined outside of outright name-calling. I called because I thought I was going to pass out. I was very weak. Of the several EMS individuals there not one of them bothered going upstairs to help me and in fact one of them said "Hey let's snap to it!" In a very ugly tone of voice. Once loaded into the ambulance when I was asked what was going on I was told she didn't want to hear any drama. She did the minimal and did not even ask for my medication she did not talk to me hardly at all, except to insult me before I barely had two sentences out.I was treated with complete disregard.....whatever my husband had told them which was probably a long lines that I was having a post traumatic episode...He himself violated my HIPPA Rights because I never tell EMS that for the very reason of stigma. I just tell them the basics like I'm throwing up and can't stop. I was treated so poorly was such bad attitudes that even if I'm dying I will not call Rutherford County EMS. I would rather die on my floor with some dignity. I don't know who's training these people but they have the wrong attitude and don't realize what an honor it is to wear that badge that they apparently think makes him better than any other human being. Where I come from, well first of all that would've never happened...my department was very well trained in both ethics and Respect for a patient's dignity. Anyways, basically I was very hurt and mortified. I simply cannot believe that this attitude is allowed to exist! If I was Lieutenant (which I was) by the way, they would have the luxury of being a driver for 24 hours if assigned to my ambulance, because I Treated each human with equal value.... And I understood that the impact I had on my patients was held in high regard simply because of my Uniform and badge. Which is worth nothing unless you take with you a very huge heart filled with love. And respect that a public servant is exactly that: a servant. I never want to go to another hospital here after my Humiliating and demoralizing experience from 3 of my own. See, I bet my husband forgot to tell them that not only did I have PTSD but I was also a firemedic . For a long time. I am ashamed if this is The standard and I want everyone to know that is not like that everywhere. Some serious training in ethics and just basic human kindness needs to happen for these three ladies who acted like complete jerks to someone they had no idea was one of their own. Furthermore, I was treated medically with only a basic set of vitals. I wasn't given the luxury of an IV or anything to stop me from vomiting again. Just complete disregard and and not one more words spoken to me at all. I will never forget it! And I don't intend to drop it either. People shouldn't be treated this way I don't care if you're homeless an addict or President of the United States with me you all got the same treatment. I don't cry easy, don't like to admit it but honestly I cried just writing this at the remembrance. I hope they're proud of themselves because they're lucky if I don't go directly to the top To the medical Director. I'm sure that He or she word not approve. On a more personal note, you suck and you can all kiss my ass because you would've been my partner for one shift and I would've got rid of you. My battalion chief would've sent you to the EMS equivalent of Siberia. read more
