Wow what a strange, disappointing experience today was. After being a patient of Dr. Allaman's…read moresince 2016, I was treated like a second-class citizen since, as I was clearly told during today's appointment, "Dr. Alllaman ONLY does surgeries". Since I've already had cataract surgery in both eyes, I am no longer of use? I am 65 and have not had my eyeglass prescription checked in 2 years, but when I was FINALLY seated (30 minutes late), the technician came at me with dilatating drops. I stopped her because even I know that would happen AFTER checking for a potential new prescription. At this point, I was ushered to another building, to a dirty office to see a nice old doctor, who completed my exam, gave me the new prescription, then led me BACK to Allaman's office, where I had to pay $100 more than expected. Still trying to figure how what just happened, will find another doctor next year!

I have had two cataract surgeries and my vision is fantastic. He also put a stent in each eye, which is a duct that relieves eye pressure (glaucoma) - now both eyes are normal pressure. Dr. Allaman is very pleasant and polite, but very professional and gets right down to business with very little extraneous chit-chat, as he is incredibly busy. He has an absolutely phenomenal staff. They are warm, kind, and very friendly, but incredibly skilled and good at what they do. I usually have questions that I forget to ask when I'm in the office, but a call to the office later, gets you a quick and friendly answer. It is amazing how many people Dr. Allaman sees in a day. He has five exam rooms that are usually full, but has adequate staff to go through initial exam procedures for each patient. Even with the mass volume of patients the most I think I have ever waited was 10 to 15 minutes. I am extremely thankful to Dr. Allaman for giving me the gift of good vision.

Yesterday, my 89 years old dad who has Alzheimer, was desperate asking me to leave while we were waiting for the doctor as many other times. I calmed him down, asked the reception about the delay, kept waiting, saw the doctor leave an exam room but getting into another one, decided to wait until the 60th minute and left. I missed 1 hour 45 minutes unpaid work time to bring my dad to his appointment. Dr. Cheng is not respectful of patients and rides.

That scared me as he had not yet looked at my eyes. Then he said, you have cloudy lenses due to cataract. I asked when I might need surgery and he said it depends on how well you need to see. Something didn't feel right about what he was saying. I got a second opinion and the second doctor, not in the Bay Eye Medical group, said you have a trace amount of cataract and you wouldn't even qualify for surgery. So, I won't be going back to Dr. Hsei.

The Intra-Ocular Premium lens for mid and long range vision was a good choice for me, as it corrected the astigmatism and cataracts, resulting in 20/20 vision. I was nervous approaching the first surgery, but "piece of cake" was very accurate. The sedative was designed to keep me comfortable and I did not feel anything during the procedure. I could not see anything except the lights I was supposed to follow. The day after the second procedure, I am using the computer and reading my Kindle without glasses. I plan to get reading glasses to read my newspaper each day, however I can read up-close pretty well. I am so glad I did this with Dr. Allaman and his Team.

The prescription was spot on. The opticians were a mixed bag. The first man I worked with had some great selections in frames for distance, and a great recommendation for my reading glasses. They let me know my sunglasses would be on backorder. Not a big deal as I bought a pair of fliptops from Amazon to get by. My reading glasses and clear distance pair were ready in about 3 weeks later. The second optician on pickup was also very courteous and accurate with the adjustments which were basically none for me. The distance frames fit like a glove. Both the reading and distance were well done. So the sunglasses went by 3 weeks without any word. No big deal as I know tarriffs are affecting everyone. A month went by, but I decided to give it some extra time. Finally I texted in after seven weeks to ask if there was an update from the lab. They texted back that the sunglasses were in. Somewhat strange as I didn't get any notification that they arrived. The third optician was courteous, but decided to adjust my nose pads. This caused the sunglasses to ride high out of my comfort zone, and I decided to readjust them at home so they matched my distance pair. Second, the tint of the sunglasses was way off in opacity and didn't match my old pair. I was disappointed in that based on the price point. So now my flip tops are on the sunglasses to help cut down on the bright sunshine. Because of this I do have to knock off a couple of points. I am going to try my prescription online to see if I have better results for sunglasses later on this year.

However, this is understandable given that dealing with insurance companies is an unpleasant, full-time job. Therefore, her services are expensive, but are worth it, so overall it's a good value. When it comes to your health, it's really worth it. If you just want to take a pill for the rest of your life and are OK with all of the possible side effects, then integrative medicine is probably not for you. However, if you want to be able to spend quality time with your doctor and be able to talk to and work with your doctor to get to the root of the problem and solve it, and not just mask the symptoms, then Rachel is who you want to see for your healthcare.
