This hidden gem was amazing and they also have a drive through! I ordered the Chow Down baked potato, I asked for pickled jalapeños, they added pickles and pickled jalapeños; I am not complaining! The baked potato was huge, soft, and delicious! The toppings were exactly what I would have put on my own had I made it! My Chow Down and an unsweet tea was $15.16! The food was really good. Ribs were great, chicken tasted awesome, but the brisket was slightly a let down. I am from the land of incredible bbq though so I may have higher standards on the brisket. We got a 2 meat plate and a 3 meat plate, banana pudding, and a drink. It was so tasty. Staff was willing to accommodate (reasonable) requests and the service was fast. Best "chopped" beef sandwich in the universe. They use the point so it is very tender and melts in your mouth. Mac n cheese is probably my favorite side. Sweet tea is sweeeeet. My son and I came to Houston with his baseball team for a college showcase. After a long day in the sun and humidity, the boys wanted Texas BBQ. I mean, you can't go to Texas and not try their BBQ. So I looked up the best BBQ spots in Houston and chose this humble place. The reviews were good and even better, it was on our way back to the Hotel. Man! Thank God we came here. I wasn't expecting it to be in what I can only imagine, is a home, turned restaurant. I freaken love that! Makes you feel like you're eating in your Grandmother's or your aunt's Kitchen. I really wish I remembered the super sweet and super kind, ladies' names. Forgive me M&M, it's been a super long and hot n humid week, and this SoCal boy just isn't used to it lol. You two behind the counter made our experience even more enjoyable. You were kind and extremely friendly to all four of us. The conversation was friendly and felt like you two truly appreciated us being there. Very rare nowadays, especially in Los Angeles. So, thank you for making us feel welcome. Ok, food time.... I ordered the 3 meat plate which came with 2 sides. I got the Brisket, Pork Ribs, and Rotisserie Chicken with Potato Salad and Beans. M ( if anyone responds, please reply with their names ) even slipped us some sausages just so we can try them. All four of us pretty much had the same meats plus pulled pork. All of it was fantastic! M promised me that I would love the potato salad, even though I told her my Aunt made the best. M wasn't wrong, it was good and my Son loved their Mac n Cheese and coleslaw. The Pork Ribs were tender and came right off the bone. The Rotisserie Chicken was juicy and flavorful and the brisket was soft and delicious. Their BBQ sauce had great flavor and my Son loved the pulled pork. M&M came over and talked with us while they were cleaning up the dining room. We learned how long they've been around and about the potato challenge. My 16yr old son swore he could do it, unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to go back due to his changing baseball schedule. I promise ladies, we fully intended to go back, but time ran out. If I ever come back to hot n humid Houston, Ryan's will be the first place I go to eat at. My buddy wanted to try another BBQ spot the next day, so we went to a place that had good reviews, Pappas BBQ. I went in there expecting the same quality and taste as Ryan's, after all, this is Texas. Sadly, it wasn't. To be honest, that place didnt even compare to Ryan's Smokehouse. Customer service was bland, kinda like their food. They go way to heavy on the rub and their sides have no flavor. Pulled pork was dry and tasteless. Even if their food was good, their customer service fails in comparison to the love we got at Ryan's from M&M. Thank you ladies, for being so kind to us. You can see and feel just how much they love their customers and the food they provide. I'm sorry I can't remember your names ( I think I do, but I don't want to write them down and be wrong) so please don't take that as a sign that we don't appreciate how you treated us. My kids had a school trip at Nasa, and I thought I try something different in the area for lunch. This place did not disappoint. For the two meat platter, it wasn't expensive and the food was delicious. The meat fell off the ribs, and the moist brisket was so tender. I got them to add sauce on top of the meats, but I don't think it needed it. The baked beans wasn't to my liking because it was on the sweeter side. Next time, I'll have to try the other sides. We are just left the space Center, and before we begin our trek east wanted to try to grab some real Texas brisket one last time. We called around to a few places to make sure that they were open, owing to the holiday, being around the corner, And the woman who answered the phone here was so amazingly nice. The other place we called, not so much. Hence our decision to eat at Ryne's. The gentleman who took care of us was the owner, and then we passed along the story of how we picked them, he informed us that it was his wife, and how happy he was, that we decided to come in. He told us the story of how the restaurant had been in his wife's family, but they had bought it to keep it in the family, and allow her family member to retire. With a story like that, how could you not support this local business? This is a typical brisket establishment, just on a much smaller scale. Can you order at the counter and watch as they slice your meat in front of you. The main course is truly are the main stars of the show, delicious brisket, delicious, sausage, and amazing barbecue sauce. The sauce is sweet, yet spicy, with a slight hint and kick of pepper. an amazing combination of deliciousness. The sides are good supporting characters, but the star of the show really is the brisket. If you go away, hungry, then you did something wrong because they've got really great portion size. The inside had a really cool feel. You could tell the place had been there for a minute, but everything was well taken care of. It was kind of like going to that establishment that you've been going to for years, that familiar character, familiar feel about it. This really was some of the best brisket that we had on this trip. The friendly service definitely was a bonus. The owner was definitely a really friendly person, answering another customers questions about how long to get to the airport in the morning, and what time they should leave, or indulging me in my questions, about pickles, onions, and jalapeños with brisket. The culinary knowledge of the owner was reflected when I got coleslaw as my side, and he identified that I wasn't from the area. When I said North Carolina, he said that that made sense and commented that a North Carolina barbecue meant pork. Damn good food. My native Houstonian woman walked me in, told me to shut up and ordered each of us a "Chow Down". Fully loaded? Yes. A couple minutes later, here comes two steaming plates loaded down with baked potatoes covered with sour cream, cheese, chives and topped with a heaping wallop of chopped brisket with sauce. Magic. The perfect meal for someone working long days who needs to fill up quick with a meal that will get them through the day, or just someone who likes steaming piles of food served cafeteria style and then tries to waddle around the Houston Space Center for a couple of hours. So we had 2 chow down potatoes with beef, 1 2 meat beef and sausage, and 3 meat with beef, sausage, ribs, the sides BBQ beans, coleslaw, potato salad. BBQ beans where good liked them, coleslaw was good for me could of been a little bit sweeter but was still good. The potato salad was good nice taste. The food was amazing. I had the chow down potato, and it comes with a hefty scoop of brisket, and plenty of fixings on the plate. I also tried the Mac and cheese and it was melty and honestly some of the best I've ever had. The service was as good as it could be, let's just say with 3 people behind the counter all doing things, you they attend to you very quickly. We found this fantastic joint several years ago while visiting the area. Smelled it sitting in the drive thru next door and decided to try it and loved it. Just came back for the first time since Feb 2020, hoping our memories hadn't overblown how good it was. So pleased to say our memory actually didn't do it justice, it's even better than we remembered! The brisket is incredibly tender and so flavorful, the ribs are probably the best I've had anywhere, and the sausage is fantastic. The sauce is just right - tangy with just a little sweet.
