UPDATE: I want to thank Joe for reaching out to me…read morepersonally. He was very professional and made the situation right. As a customer, that's all anyone can ask for. I'm not thrilled about all aspects of the Yelp response from his team, but Joe was actually one of the first people I ever spoke to years ago that made me want to purchase from KPODJ. All things considered, I'm updating my review. BUYER BEWARE Let me start by saying I was a long time customer of KPODJ. It is quite upsetting that I even have to write this, but after the rude attitude I just received from Dina who is one of their team members and the poor customer service I received. I just don't know what else to do. I received some Ape Labs Ape Sticks that simply didn't work. The lights charged for 24 hours and didn't work. I returned the lights and explained the situation. When I received a call back from KPODJ. They said that the lights worked and wanted to send me back the lights. I explained that I simply wanted my refund. This was a Thursday. They went radio silent and I had to reach out everyday to finally get someone on the phone this morning which is now Monday. I kindly asked Dina who answered the phone if someone would respond today regarding my refund. She was rude and said "if they can they will". That is not a satisfactory response for someone who's had a difficult time reaching anyone passed their new AI system that is extremely horrible to deal with. I am extremely disappointed with what KPODJ has become. I've spent thousands with this company over the years, but moving forward I am taking my business account elsewhere. I will keep you all updated on if and when I receive my refund.

The crew was pretty typical - one guy spoke English, translating for the other guy who spoke Spanish. They spent almost two hours troubleshooting a 4-way smart switch that wasn't behaving, installing 8 smart switches that I provided, and replacing some really cheap junction boxes that were cracked and no longer reusable. The price was on the high side. Not the highest, but it was $150 for the first 30 minutes, then $25 per smart switch, along with extra to replace the junction boxes (which I agreed needed it). But despite my repeated instructions, one set of 3 switches didn't end up in the order I asked for, which I only realized when they left. They also left packaging trash in my recycling bin and stacked discarded switches on my dinner table without asking first. Also one of the wall plates was not installed parallel to the wall. I'm not sure I'd go with them again unless they were the only ones available.

They take extra care to clean up after the job And it's very clear that no one has been drinking or doing drugs. That's not always my experience with electricians in the past.

(Note: Tri Starr Electric has an additional office in Oradell, NJ, so they can service Bergen…read moreCounty, which is the location context of this review.) I contacted Tri Starr Electric, because I wanted a second opinion on my non-functional outdoor lamp post. Neil picked up the phone and spent 10 minutes listening to my problem and what the first electrician found out and proposed. Any contractor able to take a phone call for 10 minutes is incredible in and of itself. Neil asked some good questions and didn't want me to pay for a service call unnecessarily. While Neil confirmed some of the first electrician's findings, there were additional matters that the first electrician did not address. I decided that it was worth paying them the service charge to have them thoroughly examine the situation. This was because the proposed solution from the first electrician was almost $1500 after tax, and I wasn't sure I wanted to spend that much to deal with the lamp post. (low voltage with transformer installed outside in an external outlet) Brad and Juan came over to examine the situation. They wore shoe covers to enter the house and not get the floor unnecessarily dirty! They did similar examinations as the first electrician, testing line voltages and finding where the wires went. However, unlike the first electrician, Brad offered multiple solutions at different budget levels. Brad focused on the root problem of "how much outdoor lighting do you want?" instead of "how to fix this lamp post." Lastly, if we hired them to perform one of their solutions, Tri Starr was willing to discount the price of the solution by the cost of the service call, which I think is fair and appreciated. Brad submitted three proposals a full day later, all of which matched what he told us when he was on-site. The three proposals came in at different price ranges: an affordable solution that abandons the lamp post for a different lighting source, a modest low-voltage wireless switch solution, and the priciest line voltage solution. The price point of the line voltage solution was basically the same as the first electrician's low voltage solution, so Tri Starr offered a better solution for the same price. We chose the low voltage solution. Brad texted me when he was arriving and arrived in the expected time window. Once here, he reviewed the work with me before starting. He suggested 3 options on where to place the transformer box and wiring with pros and cons to each. As before, he wore shoe covers for indoor work. For outdoor work, he carefully dug up the ground to lay the wire and minimized disturbing the soil. It took him about 5 hours to do the work, which was according to plan. After the work was done, he cleaned up the work site and provided a final review of the work including operation of the switches and the transformer box. In conclusion, this business is very well run, offers great solutions for all budgets, and is meticulous with their work. I will definitely hire them for future electrical work.

Not pleasant news. Then I decided to give a call to Tri Starr. Neil picked up and he didn't listen as much as I had wanted him to, and he quickly indicated that the handyman is probably wrong. I was a bit skeptical to be honest, but I gave it a go. Joey showed up on the same day as the call and he was actually really pleasant to talk to and resolved my problem relatively quickly. I didn't have to do a rewire so that was a relief. and in the end, Neil was right. They were prompt, knowledgeable and generally friendly. Give them a call
