But because it was so cold today, we picked one close to the train station for our lunch for three, and it turned out to be a great choice after our meal at Ryebird. Their website describes Ryebird as "A Neighborhood joint where friends and family meet" and that seems pretty much spot-on. The bar is gorgeous, the dining room is beautifully decorated with red painted walls, dark distressed wood tables, and stainless-steel colored chairs. The service was great, I mean outstanding. Our server Leo was friendly, helpful and very accommodating. We had a few conversations with Manager Thomas who was very charming and a real joy to talk with. And I haven't even gotten to the food yet! OK, here we go! Our party of three went with a small Chicken Soup for The Soul with Cheesy Bread ($14) for me. What's Cheesy Bread? Well, how about three toasted pieces of gooey pizza bread topped with a feta spread and olive oil. My brother-in-law went with their Daily Pot Pie ($23 for Chicken today), with a house-made buttery crust, scratch-made filling, and an added $4 up-charge for a gravy boat full of mushroom bourbon gravy. My wife went with a Roaster sandwich ($18) of pulled chicken, cheddar, BBQ sauce, pickled onion, on a baguette served with fries. We also had an order of Lemon Chili Zucchini ($9) for the table. The food was wonderful, as both the pot pie and the sandwich were devoured. My soup was a pretty big bowl for a "Small" but was loaded with more carrots and celery than chicken. I asked our server Leo if they had any hot sauce, and he asked me how hot did I want it? Ryebird has a few different types in increasing levels of hotness. I asked for the max, and he brought out a little ramekin of some of the hottest hot sauce I ever had. It was pretty much at my upper level of tolerance. I chatted about it with the restaurant manager on the way out, and he was pretty sure it was made with Ghost Peppers, so that explained my thermonuclear mouth numbing reaction. Anyway, we loved our visit to Ryebird. Their food is reasonably priced, portions are generous, the quality is high, and the service is exceptional. We stopped in for lunch and had a good experience. The restaurant has indoor dining as well as outdoor dining. There was a really chill vibe with good music while we dined. For my entree I had the steak and frites, minus the fries because of dietary reasons. I was able to substitute the fries for asparagus. Overall, I was not overly impressed with the steak. It was fine but not over the top. My girlfriend really enjoyed the chicken pot pie. She said it was really good. read more

My husband and I were passing through downtown Fairfield and wanted some comfort food for lunch, so we checked out Ryebird! We went pretty close to their opening, so it was really laid back. The one man working the dining room did a great job of staying attentive to us and a few other tables that ended up coming in. Great drinks and quality comfort food. The cheesy bread service was a favorite of ours, and we really enjoyed the mac and cheese too! They did an excellent job on the chicken pot pie. Great location!! Right on the main road and next to a theater so draws a decent crowd. Menu is standard American bar food however the quality is much elevated. They have both indoor and outdoor seatings where you can observe the hustle and bustle of the town. Service was exceptional, very attentive and polite staff that all services with a smile and were very welcoming. We can on the 4th of July and even saw some fireworks from where we were sitting. I ordered a whisky sour to start and it was great. We got seated just in time for happy hour too. Gotta save every penny possible these days! Kids are not cheap!!! The cheesy bread was a great starter. My only regret is that we didn't order more. For my entree I ordered The Hot House. As a massive fan of spicy chicken sandwiches, this may be one of my all time favorites. This sandwich provided the perfect mix of spice, crunch, and sauce. The jalapeño relish on the bottom bun was a perfect pairing with the Rye sauce on the top. I could've easily eaten two of these, but I'm glad I could truly enjoy the one I ordered. It's easy to make a spicy chicken sandwich, but making one that is easy on the stomach is a whole different story. A lot of restaurants these days will do anything to make a great sandwich. Unfortunately, this includes sending customers to the toilet for an hour after dinner. Ryebird was careful in their execution and crafted an incredible sandwich. Ryebird vastly exceeded my expectations, and I look forward to returning in the near future. read more

We had a nice meal before a show at Ryebird recently. I had the double smashburger which was very good. Friends had salads and an Oktoberfest special that they enjoyed. Wine offerings were good. Happy hour specials were very good. Excellent beer selection as well. We also tried the fried olives which were weird but very good. It's crowded and loud but we had a nice time and could talk and enjoy the meal. Server was very nice so that was another plus. I think we'll be back the next time for a show here. read more

Heard some good things about Ryebird and their happy hour so I gave it a shot. Location is a plus, just off the Post Rd so they have indoor seating and a cozy patio. Decent selection of beers for happy hour, $3 for a Schaffer, Coors or Yuengling is a mighty fine deal. My wife and I tried out a bunch of apps including the taquitos, wings and chicken sliders. The taquitos were for sure the highlight, we liked them so much we got 2 orders of them. They come topped with nacho cheese and fried perfectly, I liked that they had their own dipping sauces straight out of the bottle, wished they had a spicy sauce however. Chicken sliders were decent, decent size chicken thigh, pickles and a bun. Wings might be slightly overpriced for happy hour, 4 for $8 doesn't strike me as much of a bargain. Wings were solid, we enjoyed the hot Parmesan sauce, good size as well with a mix of drums and flats. Our waiter was fantastic especially for it being almost full on the patio before we left. Their regular menu has some enticing items on it, I'll be back to try those out. read more

Ambience is great and it should be a great place to grab food and drink before a show. My wife and I grabbed seats at the bar as it wasn't as crowded as the outside. Took a while to order (or acknowledged) and staff seemed overwhelmed. I understand that but folks that squeezed in next to us well after we arrived got served ahead of us. I mentioned that we had tickets to a SHU show next door and the bartender looked perplexed. I think the bartender was newer so I'll cut him some slack. Waitress was also a bit rude too, but she seemed to be picking up the slack for others. It's not a one star deal because that's harsh and the owner seems like a good guy. He recognized the concert discount and told the bartender to make sure it was recognized. In the end, it wasn't and we were charged more beers that were listed cheaper on the menu. I didn't dispute any of this because the way things were going, we would have late to the show and fortunately there's an option to pay online to speed things up. Ultimately, I felt ripped off, which is unfortunate because I wanted to like the place. read more

Came to Ryebird on a Sunday night for dinner with my fiancé and I excited to try it. We were unfortunately severely disappointed. The food was extremely lackluster and visually lazy. Thrown on cilantro on my corn ribs, lacking some sort of dipping sauce, and very over-cooked. Shining star was the grilled chicken in my salad, had good flavor and was juicy, but the salad needed more help than just the chicken. The service was also depressing, servers on their phones, laughing by the kitchen doors. Gave us water with no ice is strange, but maybe that is just me? I would not go back and don't really recommend it there are much better restaurants around in Fairfield. read more

Had a great experience at Ryebird! Traveled up from northern NJ as my brother goes to SHU and it was a great experience. Our waiter was great with giving recommendations and even the kid who was busing was awesome and making us laugh. Loved the look of the place and the half inside/outside atmosphere. Service was great even for a Saturday night. We got the shrimp, cheesy bread, and mac n cheese to start and all were fantastic. Had a reservation. Waited almost 1/2 hour for our table. They were overwhelmed. I get it. Owner said he'd get as drinks as we waited. Didn't happen. Got them after we were seated, and they were in our bill. The positives: cool vibe. Drinks are decent. The disappointment: food was meh. There's potential and I hope this was just an off night, but, man, when everyone is out here sensitive to cost/value... Shrimp app was the best. Corn ribs were cold and hard, dry with no sauce to help. Cheesy bread menu description is better than reality. My smash burger - granted it was a single- was modest (let's just say not like the photos here). Caesar salad with fried chicken was ok. Portions are on the smaller side. Lots of side salad to fill the plate. Pot pie looked pretty, crust flaky, tasted "ok". Chicken paillard was overcooked. We were hangry so ate it all and were celebrating a birthday so we were focused on being together. The boozy milkshake was a fun dessert.
